QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 07:45 AM) I'm a Bernie supporter that will vote Hillary, less than enthusiastically. I've liked how this post explained voting as harm reduction and not as a personal statement. http://www.lawyersgunsmoneyblog.com/2012/09/dealbreakers

I wonder what trump has on Christie. He was openly insulting him for being an absentee governor with Christie sitting on the same stage.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 09:24 AM) Trump isn't a conservative. That is 100% true. Go through the policy positions he holds. He approves of some abortions. He is not free trade. He supports higher taxes on many. He supports many gun restrictions including the assault weapons ban, and longer waiting periods. That is off of the top of my head. His tax and health care plans are the same basic thing the other Republicans offer.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 09:18 AM) Yes. Just funny were talking to him like a person. He didn't think Trump was a conservative, which is probably correct. Shapiro has used that to attack Trump at every angle. Probably his most vocal critic, which is saying something. Glad he's gone, but I'm sure he'll find another platform. Breitbart refers to the media group, pretty obviously.

Breitbart has been unapologetically pro trump for a while, and several people have resigned over what they feel is throwing their own reporter under the bus in favor of trump. I don't think there's some set of journalistic standards at play there. Eta actually it was the opposite of any sort of standards http://www.vox.com/2016/3/14/11219570/brei...manager-assault

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 14, 2016 -> 10:57 AM) Sure, but in terms of the country and policies that affect everyday Americans, there's not much he can do. Remember, you're the one telling me the President can't act unilaterally without Congress or even the SC stepping in. The guy's a terrible person and an even worse candidate, but I'm just not terrified of him royally screwing things up. I just don't think that's possible in our system. The executive branch has considerable independent power domestically. Think about the staffing of numerous federal agencies.

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 14, 2016 -> 10:26 AM) Well, we did see the 2010 town halls. I would say that there is a reason you don't see the same level of activity against Cruz. But my bigger concern is 2020, where this may happen again and the next person will be considered "as bad as trump" due to policy, where what is making Trump so awful now is his wielding of his base like an army and undercutting populations as problems that need to be removed. e.g. the snake parable he loves to tell

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 12, 2016 -> 05:32 PM) Except that Rahm's Chicago is probably closer to Bernie's vision of America than Hillary's anyway. I'm pretty genuinely confused by what you mean here. Rahm is criticized from the left in ways that align pretty well with Sanders campaign.

I want to know where all the "free speech first amendment" pearl clutching was when trump was talking about banning Muslims and encouraging his supporters to hospitalize protesters.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 12, 2016 -> 03:47 PM) You're missing the point. Trump is an idiot and will never be elected. Suddenly a bunch of teenagers who have been lied to about free college have decided a politician cannot have a rally. Last night I realized this country is just completely spiraling. It's disappointing, and I'm embarrassed for my country and the city I hold so dear. Protests are a part of free speech, trump could have had his rally but decided on his own to cancel. I'm proud of Chicago for responding to a white nationalist rally with a strong protest movement and what amounted to very little physical conflict. I'm embarrassed that someone like trump could be drawing such large crowds in the first place, though.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 12, 2016 -> 01:19 PM) You are delusional. What is Trump worried about? He's surrounded by secret service and goes from the door of his helicopter to a car to the arena. And you'd be b****ing if he went through with it and someone got stabbed or shot. I have no problem with people protesting. I'd be right there with them. But it became violent. People became assholes. It crossed a line. Whether he asked for it or deserved it is immaterial. I dunno, ask trump, he's the one who never even bothered going to the rally before calling it off and lying about talking to police. Nothing much really even happened before they called it off, and the extent of the violence was some shoving. Less violent than two other trump rallies this week really. I'm fully expecting someone to get seriously injured or killed at a trump rally this year, though. What else would you expect when the candidate is encouraging violence against protesters?

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 12, 2016 -> 12:56 PM) Relax. You're acting like this was just a random group of protestors. Again this was extremely well organized. There's a big excluded middle between "random group of protesters," "Bernie's people" and even "just MoveOn.org." There were a lot of different groups there last night.
