QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 01:16 PM) What would cause more dollars to flow to the politically correct people: While we're on the subject of funding, should I link to the multiple "skeptic" scientists who have all been found to be willing to produce a report that says whatever you want it to say as long as you meet their price?

I'm gonna guess the source for that nonsense is long-discredited Watt's Up With That since that seems to be popping up near the top of google searches. The baseline global estimate was updated by a 1999 study. The numbers Alpha is presenting are not directly from NOAA but from Anthony Watts making a bunch of bad assumptions and, per usual, not understanding what he's actually talking about. from the report alpha sorta-linked to: and a more thorough rebuttal of this nonsense: http://motls.blogspot.com/2016/01/temperat...-naturally.html

That FBI guy was pretty terrible. I couldn't believe that an allegedly trained chemist would say under oath that he could make definitive statements about samples he did not test. The FBI crime labs have been caught fabricating/"misinterpreting" evidence on a wide scale before, too. He was also the guy in charge of testing the OJ Simpson evidence (lol), and he was the one who tested and testified that Dr. Sybers had poisoned his wife (spoiler: he didn't, the FBI's test was bulls***).

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 09:32 AM) 5) The *67 stuff is questionable but not really persuasive. So he's a creep, doesn't make him a murderer. Katz saying she was afraid of him doesn't really jive with one of the first things we heard in the documentary - her voicemail to Avery that morning indicating that she would be out there to take pictures of the van. If you actually look at what happened there, you find that once again Kratz is full of s***. The judge didn't let in the evidence about her finding him "creepy" because the entirety of it was her making a joke to someone in her office about him answering the door in a towel and her saying "ew." She never said she was frightened or that she didn't want to go there. And as far as calling her that day, she was 30 minutes late to her appointment. Kratz was loaded up on prescription pain killers he was abusing the entire time and shouldn't have any credibility whatsoever. On a somewhat related note, why is it legal for AD's to prosecute two different people for the same crime with completely different and even contradictory theories of how that crime happened?

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 08:13 AM) I loved Maui. I would strongly recommend it to anyone, because it has positives for all potential vacationers. Yeah, that's probably it's strongest point. Lots of beaches obviously, all the water sports/activities you could ever want, big resorts if that's your sort of thing, small B&B (Hana area) if that's what you're looking for, restaurants from cheap-but-delicious fried fish to $$$$ fine dining, hiking, shopping, etc. Best meal in our whole trip was probably the fresh-caught Mahi hacked into chunks right in front of you and tempora-fried in the back of a bus/kitchen thing on the road to Hana.

The white-hot hatred that most of the GOP establishment has for Cruz really is the compounding factor there. If Rubio can't stick around and start picking up some additional support, I really don't know who else they could turn to. The rest of the field seems pretty irrelevant at this point.

Conservative magazine National Review published their latest issue with 22 anti-Trump essays. The RNC promptly returned the favor by disinviting NR as a debate partner. Looks like at least some of the Republican establishment is warming up to Trump as nominee.

The flip side of that is something like my wife's Ford Fusion, which seems to have a separate button for every function and a big touchscreen. Why are "map," "nav," and "dest" separate buttons?!

My wife and I went to Hawaii last summer (Big Island, Maui, Kauai). It's hard to pick a "favorite" island, but Maui does stand out a bit in my mind. The west side of the island might mean around Lahaina and Ka'anapali. Gorgeous area, and Lahaina is a cool town with lots of shops, restaurants and activities. We stayed at some condos down in Kihei, but the area up on the north-northwestern side of the island definitely seemed a little bit nicer. Hiking around Haleakala was one of the coolest hikes we've done. If/when we go back, we'd definitely do at least one night backpacking there. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 07:30 AM) Napali coast was fantastic but I think my favorite place was the Haleakala crater. It was like being on another planet.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 02:06 PM) These people are garbage 4,000 artifacts stored at Oregon refuge held by armed group They've posted video of themselves mishandling artifacts stored at the facility. https://twitter.com/coop3030/status/689981160416526336 JJ MacNabb has been writing about anti-government extremism and has been a pretty solid source of information on this

Oregon's governor seems pretty angry and is calling for the feds to actually do something. http://news.yahoo.com/oregon-standoff-lead...-065757067.html

That was a particularly dumb criticism of Krugman's. It's the same sort of terrible argument used against all sorts of programs that nobody actually believes are magic fix-alls.

how the hell is Brendan in jail, and why isn't just about everyone involved on the prosecution side including the judge in jail?

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 02:44 PM) I am looking for honeymoon locations out west (Montana and Wyoming, ideally). Anyone have experience with any of the towns there? Whitefish is a cool town, and it's right outside of Glacier National Park if that's your sort of thing (assuming it is, why else go to Wyoming and Montana for a honeymoon?)

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 11:53 AM) FWIW, this is basically a version of Hillary's argument - that Sanders's setup is so disruptive that it wouldn't have support and would cause things like that - hidden pay cuts during massive reshufflings. It's a surprisingly persuasive argument, IMO. Wouldn't this apply to any plan to shift to UHC and away from employer-provided health insurance?
-
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 11:36 AM) So when employers cut my salary by 6.2 percent to make up for what they have to pay the government for healthcare, I'm not really saving $5,000 per year under this plan. They also wouldn't be paying the insurance premiums that they're currently paying, though. And if employers could just cut salaries by 6.2% without screwing themselves over, they'd already be doing that, right?

They were ripping down wildlife cameras the other day, now they're taking down cameras used to monitor transformers. https://twitter.com/Downriver5/status/68909...src=twsrc%5Etfw also nice control of that metal ladder around all of those high voltage lines, jesus christ what a bunch of morons.

There's been criticism from all of the non-Hillary camps for months regarding the number and timing of the debates.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 01:05 PM) Bernie may have a chance in the primaries but I don't think he has a chance in hell in the general election. The establishment would never allow someone like him (or Rand Paul for that matter) to get into the office. The Democrats would not sabotage their own candidate in the general, especially if they're up against Cruz or trump (who are also both actively hated by the gop establishment)

Well, they finally arrested someone. The protestors have been driving around in stolen USFW* vehicles for a while now, and they've even started putting their own logos on them. One of them drove into town in a stolen truck and was arrested for it. *The reserve is managed by US Fish and Wildlife, not BLM. whoops.

The next 'filler' movie should be STAR WARS: LUKE TAKES AN EXTENDED VACATION and it's just him hanging out on that tiny rock island for 30 years and slowly going completely bats*** crazy.
