  1. My gut reaction is "not that thrilled" but I can't say who I'd rather have.

  3. I'm not a climber myself, but a couple of my friends/acquaintances are and they were very excited about the opening of The Dawn Wall on El Capitan in Yosemite. Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson are the first people to ever free climb* this face which was widely considered to be impossible to climb due to the difficulty. They started on December 27th and finished Wednesday. *free climbing means you're scaling the rock with just your hands and feet, but you're still safety-roped to the wall for when you fall. You can see how flat and smooth this rock face is, making free-climbing this very difficult. Their sleeping quarters for the last two-plus weeks: The moment of triumph:
  4. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 08:50 PM) This signing is already a huge win cause you brought that sig back. made me lol
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 12:20 PM) Slightly different, abduction versus recruiting, but I suppose you're right. They use child soldiers.
  6. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 12:01 PM) To my knowledge Christians never did this: http://mashable.com/2015/01/13/islamic-sta...om-Tw-main-link http://www.warchild.org.uk/issues/the-lords-resistance-army
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 09:29 AM) I also completely recognize they have some great writers that write normally and it's not an automatic dismissal from me. but man, I hate this clickbait headline s***. You can't escape it now, and it's really driving me crazy. If you don't tell me what the article is actually about in the headline/link, I'm not clicking.

  9. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 04:14 PM) @JayGlazer: Broncos coach John fox just told me he and broncos have decided to part ways. "it was totally mutual!"
  10. right, stumbling forward while juggling the ball isn't a "football move"
  11. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 03:01 PM) There was more calls that went Detroit's way last week than Dallas'. The biggest/latest call is just the only one people remember. Also, don't forget that the NFL laughably decided Suh could play last week, which had a bigger impact than any blown call in that game. Detroit wouldn't have had a chance without Suh, and that was the biggest blown call/advantage of all. Do we need to repost the pics of the blatant holding no-calls in favor of Dallas, especially on critical plays?
  12. I saw it the first time after the ruling had been made so maybe that's biasing me, but this doesn't even really seem like a "process of the catch" ruling. He just didn't have control of it as he's falling towards the goal line, and the ball pops out when it hits the ground. Not a bad call and more along the lines of the old standard incompletion rules than the newer "process" rules. Either way, not comparable to the ridiculous officiating gifts Dallas got against Detroit.
  13. I'm more pissed off about the markup on the part. $225 for something I could order online for $50. They're already charging me $85 for the service visit and it's a two minute job, do they need to get me on the part, too?
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 11:34 AM) Congrats on a great career, Dunn.
  15. QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 10:47 AM) Depending on the weight and size over nighting a part would still put you way ahead cost-wise. Yeah, I'll keep that in mind next time. $220 for a ceramic resistance heating element, plus $85 service fee for the visit. Ridiculous. Better than the time the other major HVAC company (Leslie, tried Four Seasons this time) tried to tell me my whole 3 year old furnace needed to be replaced when it turned out that the squirrel cage (fan) had just walked on the motor shaft a bit because the set screw was loose. $3000 for a new furnace, 30 minutes of my time to tighten a screw. Tough call. edit: if this was an A/C thing I'd have no problem waiting it out, but it's only going to get colder the next couple of days and didn't want to chance being wrong on my diagnosis, not having the part show up, ordering the wrong part, etc. Need to find a local HVAC supplier that will sell to non-technicians.
  16. they'll often only sell to licensed technicians/installers
  17. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 08:47 AM) You can buy most parts online. I had a similar issue with a heat sensor last year. 2 dollar part that I replaced in 5 minutes. yeah but having a functional heater in January is sort of critical, can't wait around a couple of days for ordered parts.
  18. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 09:50 AM) M Knight's explanation of Signs was that they really weren't aliens, they were demons. The movie was about Gibson's struggle with his faith. The reason water killed the whatever's was because it was holy water. Seriously. I really don't get the fascination with Snowpiercer. It's a movie that's right up my alley (post apocalyptic scifi), but I don't even think it's good, let alone in the top 10. The entire movie is just a monotone mess to me. Chris Evans also does nothing for me. Agreed. My wife and I watched it a couple of weeks back, and we were really underwhelmed.
  19. Definitely. It's the ignitor, so at least I was able to start it with a grill lighter and it's warming up in here. What a pain in the ass that you can't just buy replacement parts yourself, though. If Home Depot etc. carried parts, I'd have this thing fixed already. Instead, I've got to call an HVAC company, have them come out and "diagnose" what I've already figured out, try to sell me a bunch of other services and ultimately charge me probably $150 for a part that can't cost more than $10 to replace myself.
  20. woke up to a broken furnace and a 55 degree house this morning
  21. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 12:49 PM) I swear if the Bears cut Marshall they're the dumbest f***ing franchise in the league. Cutting him for what? For speaking out and being emotional when the team and franchise is going down the tube? SO TERRIBLE! He's an incredible talent and has been worth every penny. Well there's rumors about him being a "menace" or whatever in the locker room, but maybe a competent coach could correct that.
  22. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 11:55 AM) Very cool Gage, thanks. Hate to beat a dead horse but I still just hate the fact that Phillips has to be involved in choosing the HC. Good lord why does he have to be there? I dont care if he has even the slightest effect on what decision is made its too much. Agreed, he has no business being involved after the GM is here.
