QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 03:38 PM) I'm pretty sure StrangeSox was just being sarcastic. yeah, the statement I made (which is just a paraphrasing of how a lot of people actually seem to think 'free speech' works) intentionally contradicts itself If your right to freedom of speech means others can't respond with criticism, then that means you're limiting others' freedom of speech.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 02:20 PM) Ask Corey Maggette about that There's precedent for this, at least in the MLB http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marge_Schott#Controversies

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 11:52 AM) It takes a few minutes to get going, but I thought Bomani Jones had a great breakdown of the whole Sterling situation. http://deadspin.com/in-10-minutes-espns-bo...-ste-1569195989 btw this was fantastic

Right, I'm sure there's a dozen or two lawyers for the NBA who reviewed this before it was announced.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 01:51 PM) It's so entertaining to see idiots say that this is a first amendment issue on Facebook and comments section everywhere. The First Amendment guarantees a right to free speech without criticism or response, obviously. No, please don't point out the glaring internal conflict in that thought.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 01:50 PM) Slippery slope arguments are not convincing to me. He didn't say "anything" behind closed doors, he said words that were hateful and directed at a community that makes up the vast majority of it's players and a significant portion of his fans. He didn't just say something that was offensive, he said something that was significantly damaging to the league he is an owner in and makes money being a part of. So if another says "anything" which has equal damage to the league, sorry, you will get paid 1 billion to leave that league. Plus, you know, the record-setting housing discrimination settlement he paid in the past. It's not like he actually did keep his abhorrent views private, they had real-world effects on people.

2016 Summer Olympics preparations 'worst' seen
StrangeSox replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
pedantry "third world" is a Cold War-era classification that was for everybody who wasn't a part of the first world (US/NATO) or the second world (USSR/Warsaw/Communist). It didn't necessarily have anything to do with economic status. Brazil is still considered a developing country by the IMF and other international bodies. /pedantry -
When my wife bought a new (to her) car last summer, we ended up financing through the dealer. We had pre-approval from two separate banks with a pretty good rate, but the dealer ended up beating them both.

It's never good to think about how much you've "made" when it's all unrealized capital gains, especially when its in volatile sub-dollar stocks. You haven't made a penny until you've cashed out.

Yep, getting you to talk about "monthly payment" instead of the actual price of the car and the terms of the loan is a pretty common way of obscuring what it's actually going to cost you. alternatively, you could find a car that's a year or two old that's for sale from a private seller and avoid all of the dealership bulls*** games.

Apple using The Pixies' "Gigantic" is...weird.

I can't seem to find a Tacoma for under 25k, but they're really nice.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 26, 2014 -> 02:35 PM) Regardless, he still played. So all that snark about it being impossible he would come back that soon was not bulls*** after all. Like I said, I was just relaying facts, they weren't blowing smoke, apparently. Hockey players are insane. I think it's implied that they mean he would come back healthy, not still pretty obviously suffering from the effects.

They haven't sold rangers in the US in several years now. I was surprised to find that out. Dodge doesn't make the Dakota anymore, either. I read somewhere that the small truck market is a quarter of what it was a decade ago. That would explain why there aren't that many there on used car lots. Anyone have any opinions on Chevy 1500?

looked like they just grabbed the one of the hawks (saad?) and just threw him to the ice

I couldn't tell you what trim level it was, but the car got up to 70 without really noticing it at all.

Drove a new Malibu as a rental today.granted it was only for about an hour total but it was nice.

Anyone recommend a late model small truck? I've been looking at frontier, Tacoma, Colorado but don't really know anything about this segment.

My wife really likes her 2011 Ford fusion she got last year. I've had an optima as a rental a couple of times, and at least the brand new ones were pretty nice.

QUOTE (SexiAlexei @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 11:33 AM) That makes more sense... For some reason I thought it happened here but she was Australian... Guess that's what I get for not reading the original report, and just the Huffington Post website. Yeah, they say she's from Port Fairy, but fail to say that Port Fairy is in Australia. The date on the court document being dd/mm/yyyy gave away that it wasn't US, though.

It happened in Australia FWIW

I busted out my one semester of Athletic Training from HS (plus some helpful yt videos) to tape her toe up last night. That plus wrapping her whole foot loosely in an ace bandage and then wearing some compression socks helped a little. She's a teacher, so it's not like she can just sit behind a desk and stay off of it all day, either.

pretty sure my wife got turf toe walking on the treadmill. blaming it on the cheap nikes she switched to a couple of weeks ago.
