  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 10:32 AM) Lol. That's not even close to targeting. What would you call it?
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 09:42 AM) He worded it wrong. No doubt. Worded it wrong? C'mon. More like he got b****slapped and told to apologize.
  3. Nevada's Solar Flare And the other side, from the WSJ.
  4. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 06:40 PM) whitesoxdave and the guy have different sources. I just think this other kid if kind of full of it. Either that or he was dropped a golden nugget and he doesn't really know anything else about the team. The guy is from Glen Ellyn and that's where MLBtraderumors is based out of. Just my sleuthing not sure it's relevant. Don't think that is anything more than a coincidence...mlbtraderumors is a pretty legitimate site these days, and it isn't run by this guy. Brian, do you think the Sox may be starting to feel as though Gordon is using them?

  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 07:05 AM) Anyone know the typical installed cost for a new high efficiency water heater (40 or 50 gallons)? $600-800 would be my guess.
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 07:04 AM) Ever get this figured out? No, I have my handyman on it...he is going to try and get some ideas from the manufacturer of the tiles.
  8. QUOTE (danman31 @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 11:08 AM) There's no reason to rule out Kylo Ren, it could have been said when he was training him. I'm a bit bothered by use of my family, instead of our family. If he was talking to Rey as a family member, he wouldn't use my family, thus excluding her. The most likely scenario is we're all reading way too much into this. That was a teaser trailer that was designed to excite fans about the upcoming movie and get them thinking about what could happen. It clearly succeeded. It didn't stop him from using it in Return of the Jedi. If he was basically breaking the news to her that she is his daughter, or niece or whatever, he might still use that phrase.
  9. Star Wars The Force Awakens Second Trailer QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 10:01 AM) I'm pretty sure that was dialogue pulled from Luke speaking to Leia in Jedi, re-purposed to fit the trailer.
  10. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 09:58 AM) Didn't they use that line from Return of the Jedi? Yes, but in Return of the Jedi, I believe Luke says "My father HAD it." Edit: Yeah, I was mistaken. Vader was still alive when he said this to Leia. He did say has, not had.
  11. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 09:49 AM) Starts at 0:34 Most definitely Luke speaking, and the line was most definitely not in the movie. That's why I was shocked there wasn't another 5 minutes at the end of the movie because I was certain this line was coming. Although he says "My father HAS it..." His father is dead.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 07:19 AM) The highest ever first year arb number was $10 million, for Ryan Howard I believe, so blowing past that number like 8 years later seems entirely reasonable. Furthermore, the contract for the previous year isn't "forgotten" in arbitration - they do take into account the guy's previous year salary based on everything we've seen. Didn't Lincecum put up a higher number?
  13. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 27, 2015 -> 10:47 AM) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Star_Wars_books Thanks!
  14. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 27, 2015 -> 09:46 AM) Thanks for this. Even reading the books leading up to this movie didn't give a clear description of this. So there are probably a ton of different books out there...which ones are considered to be the canon or whatever?

  16. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 12:18 PM) Gordon had his best year with 6.6 WAR at age 30 Also, "peak" is an absolutely meaningless term. The overwhelming majority of players in the history of baseball never had a "peak" season at 25 or 26 or 27 or 28 that was as good as Ben Zobrist's 5.5 WAR season at age 33. Is this somehow not good because his "peak" 8.6 WAR season came at 28? Also his peak season came at 28 not 26. Josh Donaldson just won the MVP with his 8.7 WAR "peak" season at 29. Jose Bautista's peak 8.1 WAR season came at 31. He also put up 6.4 WAR at 34. Edwin Encarnacion just had his best season at 32. I could go on. "Peak" is not a real word that means anything. Gordon in particular was a late bloomer. He was to the point where he was almost considered a bust and then had a breakout year in 2011. I suspect he has several productive years left in him.
  17. Interesting piece. Thanks for posting.
  18. For the love of god already just let it f***ing go
  19. A good article about the changing face of the energy/utility industry. I was invited to a leadership conference for our company in January in Phoenix, and we were asked to read this in advance of the conference, as our president intends to present on it at length. New Yorker
  20. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 10:00 AM) Couldn't stand the guy. Still makes me happy to think that he's not here anymore. I always liked him...from his first AB...
  21. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 08:56 AM) Sources: #WhiteSox showing interest in Alex Gordon, among others. Gordon appeals for several reasons: Knows division, LHH, defense, makeup. https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/679344296647131140 Question is whether #WhiteSox could pay Gordon enough to pry him from #Royals. Team would be left with Melky, LaRoche, Garcia at RF/DH. https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/679344301374087169 #WhiteSox could trade one of those players - preferably LaRoche, who will earn $13M in ’16. Wouldn’t be easy with Alvarez, Carter among FAs. https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/679344306247876608 That is not an issue. We have nothing to lose by sending Avisail down to Charlotte.
  22. QUOTE (farmteam @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 07:10 AM) Jeez, didn't realize she had a 3 year old in the car with her. What a piece of s***. Surprised only 1 died. Apparently, she was not under the influence of anything, except her normal craziness, and she admits to doing it on purpose.
  23. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 06:00 PM) The whole free agent market this year is bizarre as far as the lack of signings by now. Ken Rosenthal had a pretty good article on the reasons why and how they could fix some of it. http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/chris-d...ot-stove-122015 Hopefully some stuff goes down the next couple days. Usually players like to have it off their minds by Christmas, but this year it's going to take a lot longer apparently. I get a kick how mainstream mlbtraderumors has become. Good for Tim and his ever-expanding team over there.
  24. QUOTE (CyAcosta41 @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 11:31 AM) I'm all for an Alex Gordon signing. In a vacuum, both Cespedes and Upton are bigger offensive threats than Gordon, even though Gordon is a strong offensive player in his own right. But this isn't a vacuum, it's selecting one player to best fit our circumstances. Weighing everything, I think that means Gordon -- and rather handily. Factors that make Gordon the chosen one, include: * His OBP is better and should continue to be better * Handedness does matter and the Sox need a strong left-handed bat * The Sox don't need another masher, they need a talented overall bat (I'd go Eaton, Melky, Gordon, Abreu) * Defense matters. A lot. And the Sox need it badly. The others aren't bad, but Gordon is strong. * Gordon has a track record of success in the AL Central. * $$$. Repeat, $$$. Gordon might cost 4/$72M (something like that). The others are likely both at least 6/$130M. The Sox could plow some of this savings immediately into pitching, or save some as additional war-chest for the deadline deal that we'll undoubtedly need this year for our playoff push. Yes, he has some cons: he's a little older, has a recent injury (I trust our medical/training team), and doesn't have the same "shock and awe" factor as the other two. Even if those things matter, they pale in comparison to his many pros. For me, Gordon fits our circumstances the best, but you'll hear no complaints from me about either Cespedes or Upton (different pros and cons, but similar overall impact from my perspective). Good post CA! Good to see your well-thought out arguments again!
  25. Not sure I buy into the premise, but I was thinking about the upcoming season on my drive in this morning and was pretty excited.
