  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 10, 2015 -> 09:14 AM) Shack, we have bosch appliances. My friend used to work for Bosch, which allowed me to get it at like 80% off, haha, but really like it. Nothing super fancy, basically stainless steel 5 burner gas oven and range, above hood stainless microwave and than the dishwasher (which is unbelievable). I like Bosch too...ultimately, we'll have to work with a contractor to determine what options are available as far as the overall remodel, and see how much we can set aside for appliances. That will ultimately determine which direction we go. I would really like to splurge a bit on the range, but we'll see.
  2. So it looks like at this point we are going to refinance and pull some cash out and redo the entire kitchen. Should be "interesting." I'm also in the midst of shopping for a home for my parents, who have decided to take the plunge and move out to Las Vegas. I think this winter pretty much did them in. That and a new grandson on the way. Exciting times around these parts.
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 4, 2015 -> 09:41 AM) The one caveat with induction is that you need pans with high ferrous content e.g. cast iron, some stainless steel. There's a coil underneath the cooktop that has current passing through it, which induces a magnetic field in the pot above. Since it's an AC current, the magnetic field switches back and forth and heats the pot through induced electrical resistance in the pot itself. So the pot warms up rapidly, but the glass cooktop itself stays cool. Plus, since it's one single, smooth cooking surface, it's super easy to clean. From an engineering standpoint, it's pretty cool. Interesting. I have to get a plumber out to let me know whether I need to move a gas line or not. I suppose if it is too expensive to deal with that, perhaps I could go that route. Good to know.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 4, 2015 -> 09:22 AM) Abt had some ridiculous range that was $50k! It was a 60" or something like that but looked vintage. edit: here it is, looks awesome in the right home but jesus that price I've got a friend who found a "broken" Viking 48" on Craigslist for $1000. One of the burners wasn't working, but it took a buddy of his less than an hour to fix it ( I think the ignitor had gone out). So while "used" might be a hard sell, if you can get what's essentially a $10k stove for $1k it might be worth it. edit: have you thought about induction? cooks as well as gas supposedly but the stovetop stays cool to the touch, and it can boil a pot of water in 60-90 seconds. I haven't...I'll look into it... I was confused enough by Wolf's "infrared" charbroiler and griddle.
  5. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Mar 4, 2015 -> 09:23 AM) Quotes from the future... "Remember when I cooked all of the time, honey? We hardly ever use that fancy stove you installed a few months before junior was born. Are you still having phantom pain where your pinky finger used to be? There was so much blood when you accidentally dropped the stove on it." Funny...who knows, you might be right...but she honestly cooks almost every night and bakes all the time on the weekends. Cooking and cleaning are her stress relievers. Mine are sex and gambling. We make a great team

  7. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Mar 4, 2015 -> 09:16 AM) Babies change EVERYTHING. You don't know my wife...
  8. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Mar 4, 2015 -> 09:12 AM) She won't want to cook after the baby is born. Well maybe not immediately, but I am hoping she is not going to give up cooking forever.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 4, 2015 -> 09:00 AM) The best ones are super pricey and usually need custom installation so I have gone with the higher end models of basic brands like Kenmore Elites and GE. If you want to go all out, you are looking at Wolf and Viking Yeah, a lot of times the "professional" models utilize normal residential-rated electric and gas, but the commercial grades require upgrades beyond that. I want to get her a really nice setup, because she really does love to cook and bake, but jesus, some of the Wolf ranges are $11-15k...that's crazy.
  10. So my wife is a very avid cook/baker. The home we purchased a few years ago, while perfect in many ways, is not so perfect in the kitchen. The kitchen is nice, but the cooktop is an old thermador electric unit, and the oven is a 24 inch thing from the 60's or 70's. She somewhat non-affectionately refers to it as her "easy-bake oven." She has been pestering me about replacing these old things since about the 2nd week we moved in, and so I would like to get this done for her prior to July, when our son will be born I am looking at some fairly high-end brands, professional style but not necessarily commercial, either gas or duel fuel. Want at least 4 burners with perhaps a griddle and/or charbroiler. Anyone done this recently? Have any experience with certain brands?
  11. My wife is from Cleveland, so I get to hear all about it on a weekly basis. She's kind of like Rose from Golden Girls talking about St Olaf's.
  12. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 2, 2015 -> 08:30 AM) Mostly to figure out the actual number of calories burned during an exercise, not some guesstimate based on a description of the activity and the amount of time you do it. Is that really even relevant still? Aren't scientists determining that workouts are also causing calorie burn well after workouts are over, even throughout the entire day?
  13. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 2, 2015 -> 07:59 AM) So we got a pair of the Fitbit Charge HR's this weekend. It's pretty cool to have that information readily available. We know it's not 100% accurate, but we don't do any high intensity workouts, which seems to be the area where the heart rate monitoring stops being accurate. It's fine for walks/runs/bike rides...any activity where you're slowly upping your heart rate. It's nice that it syncs with myfitnesspal too, although the integration isn't exactly smooth. When it syncs it's great, but sometimes it decides it doesn't want to until later in the day. So I've never really understood this...and I know it's because I am ignorant on the subject...but, why is someone concerned about heart rate for lower intensity workouts?
  14. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 09:07 AM) I didn't. It's something I'd definitely be interested in doing but with working at a gym and basically being there all the time it doesn't make a ton of sense for me at the moment. More agility work than the first? Yeah, a ton more. IMHO, it is by far the best of the P90X series.
  15. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 03:21 PM) 6'2, 180ish. I'm in good shape but definitely not where I want to be but I'll get there. I obviously had to take breaks during that circuit, it's not like I could do it all the way through, it was pretty demanding. I picked up working with a trainer once a week(I get 12 free sessions since I do work at a gym) so it's really helped with stuff like this and just my cardio in general. I don't want to be huge either but I do need to bulk up a bit and my main goal is always just going to be improved athleticism. Did you ever do P902? I've found that it really helped because of all the balancing and agility work in that particular program.
  16. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 01:45 PM) I'm going to revive this thread because Soxtalk is becoming fat and lazy. Work out today was pretty brutal: Warm up of a half mile run with 20 reps of jump roping every 10th of a mile. 6 sets of 6 reps of 105 lb thrusters. And then one giant circuit of 25 pull ups, 50 push ups, 50 dead lifts of 135, 50 windshield wipers, 50 two foot box jumps, 50 one arm ground to overheads with a 20 lb dumbell and then finish up with 25 pull ups. And you do that as quick as possible. I'm pretty beat up. Wow! Row, what kind of shape are you in? Height/Weight? I've been at P90X2 for about 6 weeks now, pretty pleased with my current status. Could certainly bulk up a bit more but my goal in just staying fit, lean/toned. I'm 5'11" about 167.
  17. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 07:37 AM) 50 bucks? Oh my lol. As a broke college student, I might have to wait until I have a steady job to keep affording that. I'm sure there are much cheaper ones. Google is your friend.
  18. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 07:23 AM) May I ask what you use? Might have to do this because with this cold, my skin under my beard has gotten real dry. These are the ones I use.
  19. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 07:12 AM) I have the beard comb but not that beard oil. How is that stuff? I also am growing out my hair with my beard. The stuff I have helps a lot with grooming...and it also helps moisturize your skin underneath your beard. I would highly recommend.
  20. I've been getting into the beard thing for a bit now...have the beard comb, the beard oil, etc. It's pretty awesome
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 09:31 AM) Out of curiosity, who knows anything about Lync? Besides being a message program, does it have any other functions, such as keystroke tracking? Someone told me this, but I am not finding anything that verifies it. I hope not
  22. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 08:36 AM) My dad got an A6 demo, completely loaded and got it at a great price. That car is straight awesome sauce. Russ, is it the 2.0 or the 3.0? The salesman was trying to push a 2.0 on me for some reason. I kept saying "ahh, I dunno if it's enough...I know I won't use the bigger engine all that much, but I want it there for when I need it." He kept telling me I wouldn't really need it. So then I said "Look, it's not even just the engine...I want the trim package that comes with the 3.0. For whatever reason, the 2.0 still looks 'too old' for me." Then I pointed to the 3.0 with the black optics package. He said, "well, if you want the car to look bad, that is the one you want." So I was sitting there trying to justify the extra $8-10k price tag, fully knowing I may as well just admit to myself, knowing there really was no way to justify it. Luckily, they had two 3.0's...a white with black optics and a daytona gray with black optics. I told them I thought I liked the white one...but they were willing to let the gray one go for several grand cheaper. Apparently someone had custom ordered it and then backed out and it was sitting in a dock in Houston for awhile, and then at their dealership for a bit too. So ultimately, I ended up getting it for just a few grand more than the 2.0 I was looking at. Looking back now, and after talking with my service rep a few times, it was absolutely the right decision. The 3.0 is literally a different car than the 2.0. Just much, much faster and smoother.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 08:01 AM) Traded in my wife's CRV for a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The drive quality is night and day IMO. I still dont understand why those Hondas are so expensive. We did end up getting a great deal since the owner is a friend, below invoice plus 4500 in rebates. Cant beat that friends and family s***, but he knows I dont keep cars long so it keeps me coming back. Two Jeeps, wow! I'm going to be getting another SUV in the next 12-18 months most likely. I'll likely ping you about your experience with them then. For now, my daily driver is my wife's '09 Honda Pilot, which is like a tank, but I deal with it. My wife drives the '14 Audi A6 3.0 supercharged, which I must tell you, is a sick, sick car. I create excuses to run errands so I can drive it.
