QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 01:44 PM) There was a stat Sunday that showed Bears are last in the league in play attempts greater than 20 yards or something along those lines. This is also about the time of year where Jay gets hurt and misses a few games. Yeah, I think we have one play longer than 20 yards or something ridiculous like that. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 01:34 PM) That's a toss up for me at the moment. Like I said last year, if I'm starting a team then Rodgers, Wilson and Luck are my top 3 in some order. I think Wilson has some intangibles and some leadership qualities that are off the charts. Luck does as well, and Rodgers, to a lesser degree also, but Wilson is just the perfect young team leader. Does and says all the right things...in fact, says the perfect things. He's such a perfect combination of athleticism and ability to throw out of the pocket...I dunno, I can understand folks liking others better...those are reasonable arguments. But for my money, it's Wilson. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 01:28 PM) If I'm building a franchise, I'm still building it around Rodgers. Rodgers has had to literally put an entire team on his back and win. Wilson has a beast of a rb and an exceptional defense that allows him to do a lot of things. Rodgers might have some wideouts but his line has generally been bad and he's pretty much had no running game most of his time in GB. He also has had, outside of a couple years, a horrendous defense. PS: I like Wilson a lot but he's not at the same level as Rodgers / Luck. Both of those guys are running my franchise before Wilson, although Wilson is pretty high on my list of guys I'd take for QB if I were to build a franchise. Hard to say, because he also doesn't really get the opportunities that those guys do. But I'll take him over Luck all day, every day. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) Not many do. And for those that do, you will typically find that you are talking about a top 3 QB. Yes, QB's from time to time have various streaks but the guys that throw minimal picks are either top 3 or so in the league at the time and typically in similar systems with good protection, etc. Or in rare exceptions they are a game manager and have fewer attempts or some other variable. I think Cutler just had his streak of a hundred something snapped in the game against GB? -

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 01:18 PM) I thought that was Kapernick? Kaep did roast us...but I'm remembering back to the game in 2012 at Soldier Field in December...I think we lost 23-17 in OT after leading the entire game. That was the game where Wilson really showed just how good he could be. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 01:11 PM) I've been very slow to jump on the Wilson bandwagon, given the quality of his team's roster and how much less he has to throw than the other top QBs. But everytime I watch him play, I become more and more impressed with him. He's legit and he costs less than a million dollars each of the next two years. I've been a believer since his coming out party against the Bears a few years ago. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 12:47 PM) Or 5 seasons.... oh wait, let's start the excuse train. 1) offensive line, 2) coaching, 3) defense, 4) receivers, 5) injuries, .... With the talent we have on offense this year, and with a defense that could become better as the season progresses, I think you're nuts to say they couldn't go on a run and win the whole thing. Likely? No. But some are offering absolutes... Only a Sith deals in absolutes... -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 10:16 AM) Why exactly? With the defense as bad as it is, Jay is either going to take the Bears to the promise land or he isn't. It goes through him and the offense. And nothing in his time with the Bears has led me to believe he's THAT good. Because these absolutes are just nonsense in sports, especially football, where plenty of worse teams than this one have gone on runs and won super bowls. Things can change so quickly in the NFL. It is impossible for anyone to make an absolute judgment like that after 5 games. -

The bottom line is there are plenty of other areas to improve while Jay is under contract that will contribute to the Bears winning. And this nonsense about "the Bears will never win a Super Bowl with Jay Cutler" is just ridiculous. -

You guys are nuts...there are a multitude of other positions we need to be drafting with our first pick in the draft over the next couple years. Yeah, if there is someone they really like rounds 3-4, go ahead and take him, but you're going to do that regardless of your starting quarterback situation if you're looking at the backups we have. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 03:32 PM) "Would never do" implies that I actually could do it if I put my mind to it, I'm not that smart. Thanks for the compliment though! I think you might have missed the joke...

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 03:29 PM) The thing that is standing out to me the most is the Bears simply cannot play a complete game from any phase, much less all three going at once. it is always a quarter, or a half, and then it falls apart. And usually it falls apart quickly for all three phases once something goes wrong. And that is a lack of coaching and a lack of leadership within the roster. For all those who defend Jay for what he does on the sidelines, this is an area where he needs to apparently step up. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 03:11 PM) Because the bad costs games? He could throw for 400 yards and 3 TD's every week, but if he's also throwing picks in the 4th that costs his team the game he's still not going to be a "good" QB in my book. Well he wins us some games as well. No one here is saying he is without faults, or that he doesn't cost us games now and then. Keep in mind that I'm not Jay's biggest supporter either, but I think it's disingenuous to focus entirely on the bad throws without praising him for the really good throws he makes. Basically, I still want to see more before I'm calling this entire thing a failure. -

QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 11:30 AM) Another thing that isn't being talked about....On that drive where Gould missed a FG, had MartyB done his job and blocked the guy chasing Forte on that 56 yard play then that's probably a TD. That really ended up being a 14 point swing. Just to be fair, that long play should have been a delay -

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 11:22 AM) It actually hasn't happened. Aaron Rodgers has never lost at home to the Bears. I'm not counting last year where he only played one series. Well I never said anything about beating just Aaron Rodgers. I'm talking about the Bears beating the Packers in Green Bay, and that certainly has happened. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 11:09 AM) People keep arguing this point as if it's a better throwing mechanic, decision making, etc., when in reality he's playing marginally better due to a massive improvement in the talent around him. He's still Cutler. He still makes dumb decisions with the ball at the absolute worst times. Hard to argue that he doesn't have his faults...I was extremely frustrated with him over the course of the last 6 quarters, but you're completely ignoring the good and just focusing on the bad. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 10:42 AM) How do you just completely ignore the moronic interception to Marshall in triple coverage? That's pee-wee level stupidity and Cutler does it at least once in 14 out of 16 games a year. And how can you say this is a TEAM loss? f*** that. The offense lost that game. Mostly the players, some on the coaches. The defense basically gave you the first 21 points. Turnovers and short fields. The offense, on their own, did a bunch of nothing, all game. The "vaunted" Bears offense that was going to be near the top of the league. LOL, what a f***ing joke that was/is. Jenks, I don't know where the hell you have been for the last 2 + years, but half the throws into Marshall are when he is surrounded by defenders. The only difference between that interception and the scores of balls he catches is that he dropped the ball and a defender snagged it. You guys can't ignore the countless times Jay fits these passes in for big completions and then just complain about the one that gets picked off. That's what this offense is - big, strong receivers that use their body and technique to catch passes in traffic. And yes, the defense created some turnovers, but they also got completely gashed for 2/3 of the game when Carolina had zero of their top 3 running backs and Cam is nowhere near as effective running the ball as he was in years past. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 10:46 AM) Lol, they can beat Green Bay and New England on the road? What are you drinking? Atlanta maybe, because they're Atlanta. The Lions maybe, because their offense is banged up. But 1% chance against the other two. Brady or Rogers would have to get hurt. I'll give you that Green Bay would be tough, but it has happened. As for New England, have you seen them play this year? They are just as jekyl and hyde as us. We did beat San Francisco in the opening game of their new stadium. I think that is proof enough that we can beat any of the teams we're discussing. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 08:33 AM) They barely took a shot in the 2nd half. It was conservative. I thought Holmes was held on the 2nd pick of the game, first pick was just awful and the 2nd pick was still a ball that Jay sailed. Like I said in the preseason, I thought the team lacked discipline and they continue to play with a lack of discipline. Lots of foolish mistakes in the 2nd half (not to mention 1st half with Bennett's drop on that 3rd down that seemed to be the start of the meltdown and of course the punt TD). Just pathetic. Didn't Marshall have his hands on the first int? -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 08:13 AM) They will be underdogs in 3 of their next 4 games, but should be favored in 6 of the last 7. It won't hold to form of course, but looking at it that way, they probably need to steal one in ATL, NE, GB, or DET to have a chance at 10-6. They certainly can beat any of those teams, and honestly, I feel more comfortable on the road than at home these days (yesterday notwithstanding). -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 08:01 AM) If you want to say that the game yesterday is the fluke that teams commonly lose during the season, fine, I'm ok with that. That definitely happens. But that game just continued a trend of being a middle-of-the-road team on offense, scoring in the low/mid 20's, that has continued all season. The Bears offense has fallen from #2 in the league to #17 as of now. They're at the top of the NFC North easily if their offense was #5 in the league right now. Well, they've also played some fairly decent defenses it seems, in the Bills, Niners, Jets and Panthers. I think they will continue to rise in the rankings. -

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 07:34 AM) I don't think anyone can blame Jay alone for the loss yesterday, our defense is still banged up and Carolina woke up in the second half. The bigger issue and it's also something that will never change about Jay is he constantly making dumb mistakes, and he is just bad at running a 2 minute offense, it offsets the value he provides to the offense, and it doesn't put us in good position to win games. Mind you this is one of the highest paying QB's in the league. (Part of it in the FO's fault for trust in him) Yes, Gould missed a field goal yesterday and Forte had a fumble. But Gould is the 3rd most accurate kicker in NFL history, and Forte is one of the in the league at protecting the ball. Those guys RARELY make mistakes. By the way, the fact that McCown went from looking like a Pro Bowler in 6 games last year to looking like a scrub again in TB this year says something about the talents we have surrounded Cutler with on offense. I don't think Jay is dumb or does dumb things. I think Jay is incredibly confident, to the point of arrogance, and perhaps selfishness, in his abilities. The bad interception that was intended for Holmes was not a "dumb" throw, btw. It was an errant throw, yes, but he was open. Up until that point Jay had been extremely accurate (granted, the emphasis was on short passes yesterday), and that one just got away. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 07:17 AM) I really thought the franchise was on the right track. They seemed to have a philosophy that was being implemented top down. Now, I'm at like 85% this is a failed experiment. We have the talent to be a playoff team (not even talking about championship at all), but we just have way too undisciplined a team. Good teams may have a really bad QB game and still win. But you don't see good teams consistently make the very very stupid plays the Bears make and win. It has caused us to lose games to lesser opponents consistently. Jake said it perfectly with the comment about how we have all the negatives of a conservative offense except with the high-turnovers of a high-risk offense. In most years, 10-6 will get you to the playoffs. Does anyone see the bears going off on a 8-3 finish? What a waste of years from Marshall and Forte. The schedule does lighten up a lot in the second half, but they've got to tighten their britches again and win some games that they won't be favored to win. My concern is that this philosophical change of ours (actually building an offense) will be deemed a failure by a successor regime and we go back to the John Shoop/That's my Dick Jauron days.
