QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 5, 2013 -> 11:21 AM) It's looking mid to late next week for decision time. It's a very intriguing company. I'm assuming you mean for their decision, not yours? If so, maybe their process will drag out a little bit, or you could stall a bit if you're offered the position...but it would be pretty risky to pass on that one for the hopes of getting the one located closer nearby...but if you're confident...

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 5, 2013 -> 11:16 AM) I reckon it'd be even more. What's the timeline on the one in the City? BTW, I f***ing love when people use the word "reckon."
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 5, 2013 -> 10:17 AM) How much of the total charge was for the labor? I'm debating whether to try and do the work myself. I'm not changing the footprint of the kitchen. I just need to replace a lot of the finishing details - countertop, backsplash, appliances, etc. I MIGHT get new cabinets, but I'm going to see how it looks if I just change out the doors instead to give it a new look. Yeah, the cabinets are a killer...try and keep those at almost all costs...

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 5, 2013 -> 09:22 AM) I turn 30 in 19 days and we haven't popped out a child yet. The other issue is that I've cast a wide net and another position I like that is about a 15 minute drive is in the early stages of interviewing. Any idea if it is a similar increase in pay?
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 02:03 PM) I think it was on that same drive, but I definitely remember them trying a rollout late in the game and having Kaep throw the ball away because nothing was available. They did this on the first play coming out of the two minute warning...he rolled to his right and threw a pass towards the front-right corner of the end zone...probably could have run it and reached the 2 or so, but went for the difficult pass instead.
  6. QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 04:50 PM) Again, I'd rather have a gun and not need it, than to need one and not have it. Sure, I'm probably not going to get attacked by ten guys. I know that. I was only referring to the worst case scenario with AD. But home invasions happen all the time. Who are you to tell me what I need or don't need in that case? Don't you think this arrogance is a reason I scoff at you and have no desire at all to negotiate with you? And you've yet to explain to me how me having an assault weapon, several handguns and a shotgun affects you. I keep them secured. I am well trained. I practice weapons safety like its a damn job (partially because it IS). You might think I'm an angry guy, but I have kept my rage in and my gun in its holster even when tempted by some serious madmen on the roads. Despite my anger, I still managed to deploy. I'm intense, yeah, but that doesn't mean I'm going to shoot people for no reason or have "emotional issues". Please, tell me how this makes your life worse. Tell me how innocent people are going to die because of me or my guns. If you can't do that, stop telling me what I get to own and don't get to own. I don't need your advice. I sure as hell hope so...you think you should be awarded extra points or something for this?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 03:13 PM) One thing that hasn't been mentioned is kids (I think you've said before you guys are close to starting a family). If your commute suddenly increased by an hour each way, that's less time with the little one. They go to bed early, so if you're stuck commuting home until 7 you don't get much time with him/her. Something to consider anyways. You also have to be able to afford to have them (as I am sure you are very well-aware)

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 12:40 PM) True he wants career advancement, but the first post he made simply said 50% increase, so it has to be a huge factor. After all, you usually advance your career to make more money. So it all comes back to that. I'm not saying what I'd do in this situation, but I don't think it's a slam-dunk. Yeah, people certainly value things differently.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 01:29 PM) I don't think you're being stupid, I think it's a tough decision. Money isn't everything - lifestyle, downtime/flexibility, commute are huge factors. Depends how much you want more money and/or need the money, plus how much the 50% raise is. Another thing to keep in mind is your wife's schedule and any sort of family schedule when you have a kid. I think it is more about advancing his career than the money. I'm not sure, but I think Steve is around 30 and no kids? That's not the time to be afraid to step outside of his comfort zone...
  10. Getting $3k back on Thursday, according to their system.
  11. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 12:18 PM) Friendly is subjective to some extent. Here's the problem, I have a feeling if I tell her I have girlfriend that will eliminate any chances I have with her. Obviously that would suck but that would be honest. Right now, it hasn't came up yet but if it does I'll pretty much have to start the lies which would be bad news. I can try to keep it friendly but we already text all day. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy it, but I have definitely talked to this girl more than my girlfriend the past week and seen her more too. Oh...you are texting all day? Yeah...this is definitely something you need to nip in the bud, one way or the other.
  12. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 10:35 AM) I'm assuming that your post was geared toward me. It's somewhat dangerous to let it play out because I'm technically still involved with my girlfriend. How on earth do I play it out without being suspicious/shady? Spend time with and her see where it goes? As I said, I won't really know it's a crush/fad unless I continue to talk to her. No, what I meant is just keep stay friendly with her, but don't take it any farther...in the meantime, stick with your girlfriend and see if this goes away or if it continues to be something at the front of your mind.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 10:53 AM) I'm mostly concerned with ruining my morning workout schedule, as stated. Just being stupid - we'll see. This is where it is not always so easy to get those workouts in...a lot of people are faced with this sort of thing and it certainly does complicate things more.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 10:13 AM) It's reasons like these that I participate in such a well-structured, online community. I know I should stay career-oriented, I'm just being a b****. Add to that a couple other interviews coming up closer to home. We'll see what happens. I feel you on the bus thing, but the train can actually be sort of relaxing and effective in the morning...you can ride in and sort of wake up or get your thoughts straight or review some notes before a morning meeting or whatever...I never really minded the morning commute...but the evening commute does wear on you a bit when you just want to get home and you're at the mercy of the public transportation system. You're sure you couldn't grab the L once you get off the metra instead of a bus?
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 11:11 AM) I bet Tha U fans were pretty salty about that non-PI call last night. It was almost the exact same contact/hold as the one in 2003 Cris Carter made a pretty good point this morning...as a receiver, you've got to get outside the defender a bit on that play so that it is clear he is sort of pulling you back into his space or trying to prevent you from occupying another space...but if you just run into the defender's space, shoulder to shoulder with him, a lot of times (especially in crucial situations), the ref is going to let that one go, because the two players sort of just ran in and occupied the same space together (assuming the defender doesn't just totally jack him beyond the 5 yards).
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 10:00 AM) At my company dating a coworker is pretty common place given the sheer size of the Company and the fact that you wont' work with that person on any projects (firm policy). Met my wife at work and violated my own personal rule. Can't complain. Yeah, my girlfriend (soon to be my fiancee) works at the same company as I do too. This clearly depends on the size of the company...we have 1700 employees in this building and I almost never see her here...in fact, I don't even eat lunch with her or anything. She may as well work for a different company for all I know.] As for the original question, the last girl I dated was really, really sweet, and at one time, I think we thought we really had something going...but then we ran into the same issue as you are...we just didn't have enough in common. She is a major foodie, lives and dies to eat at amazing restaurants...follows chefs like we follow professional sports teams. She also was big into fashion and art and trendy s*** like that. I, on the other hand, am into sports and being active outdoors and my dogs, etc. We really cared for one another, but at the end of the day, we were just too different, and this caused rifts in our relationship. Enough so, that we eventually broke up amicably. A few months later, I met another girl that had a lot more in common with me...and we have a much easier and low-key relationship. I think you owe it to yourself to let it play out a bit more and make sure this thing with the new girl isn't just a fad or a crush first.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 09:57 AM) Yeah - I'm struggling with the decision. Comfort zone, set workout schedule, flexibility vs career goals. The latter will likely win out, but we'll see. Take the train. You can't hold yourself back at your age because you're afraid to make a little commute into the City. Of course, this is coming from a psycho...
  18. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 08:03 AM) There's nothing wrong with his strategy. In fact, there are plenty of coaches who would have thought the same. You burn the timeout there and the 9ers either score before the 2 minute warning, or they're stopped before the 2 minute warning. Either way, you are pretty much guaranteed to at least have 1 2 minute drive to march down the field and do whatever it is you need to do. Of course, they didn't need that strategy because Frisco didn't convert the 2pt conversion. BTW, I'm glad Ray Lewis won on his way out. If nothing else, it makes most of Soxtalk mad. You've got to force them to get closer than the 7 or 5 or wherever they were before you start conceding touchdowns and worrying about the clock. You can always call a timeout after their first play after the two-minute warning and then again on the next play. It was a goal-to-go situation and the Ravens had timeouts to burn. No need to call the timeout with 2:30 left and screw yourself if the Niners don't score but then can benefit by getting the ball back. I really don't think many coaches at all would have considered calling a timeout there.
  19. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 03:41 PM) I'm not sure why my age is relevant per se but I'm 27. I met her at work. Well, the older you are and the more dating experience you have, the better you tend to get at understanding your feelings and what works and doesn't work for you in relationships. I know for a fact that I have learned a lot from past experience.
  20. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 11:03 PM) Terrible timeout management by Jim and the 49ers. And questionable play calling on the last 4 plays. Burn your first timeout in the 3rd quarter while way behind. You have to play like you'll get back in it, and need it to stop it late. You knew that would come back to bite them. So they move forward with 2 and have both on the last drive. You either use both, or use none. Saving one didn't do anything, you knew you'd get the ball back with no time left if you only had one left. They take a timeout before 3rd down (IIRC) before almost getting a delay of game. The call to Crabtree was also terrible - throwing the ball 2 yards and had he caught it he was going nowhere. Would have liked to not have used a timeout in case you didn't get in, and leave yourself with 40ish seconds left if you get a stop. But since they did, you might as well have used your last one before 4th down. And once again, Phil Simms is just an idiot...telling us all that he would have taken a timeout if he were the Ravens with two and a half minutes remaining because it was such a certainty that the Niners would score the go ahead TD and this would leave the Ravens more time remaining. I swear, I don't quite get how the guy could have played for so long and broadcasted for even longer and still not understand the strategy of clock management.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 02:17 PM) What reclamation project has left Duncan and sustained that kind of success? He sustained it last year after Duncan had left.
  22. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 03:11 PM) There is no "alternative" to signing Lohse because Kyle Lohse was never an option and just a horrible idea in general. We've got enough money tied up in this rotation...we need to rely on someone making very little to contribute, especially when you consider the deficiencies we have from a position player standpoint. I do disagree with you guys about his talent though...pitchers have tended to learn a few things from Dave Duncan...is it so unreasonable that he might just be a better pitcher now than before? I certainly don't think he'd have as much success in the AL as he did the last two years in the NL, but I don't think he is the chump some of you guys are making him out to be.
  23. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 02:49 PM) You apparently do since you have made 10 plus posts on the subject including 3 in a row right now. Notice I said you, not anyone. If I didn't care what anyone thought, I wouldn't bother to post here. But just to appease you, I will put you on ignore.
  24. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 01:32 PM) People were annoyed by him at the start of the season, he actually had been more tolerable since the niners were in the playoffs. But way to make something a bigger deal than it really was and give a I'm better than everyone else attitude. You can take it however you want, I could really give a s***.
  25. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 01:31 PM) This. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a psycho. Oh, ok...I am a psycho then.
