  1. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 12, 2013 -> 03:24 PM) Here's to hoping they accept! Thanks...they have til 6 pm Thursday!
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 12, 2013 -> 03:00 PM) That doesnt look like Vegas at all. Nice. The pictures really don't do it justice...i wasn't expecting to get to see it yesterday, so I had to go from work and could only take pictures with my phone, so the pictures sort of suck. The crazy thing about it is almost everything is original...all that wood and brick is in amazing condition because the home was only used as a guest house. So it's basically been sparsely inhabited by pseudo celebrities since it was built in '55. I've walked through a lot of these homes in the area, and this is by far the most pristine and well-cared for example I have ever seen in person. We are offering list, and hoping they take it, but we are doing conventional financing and I know they would prefer cash, so I am prepared to lose it. I can at least sleep at night knowing we gave it our best shot. So now we wait...
  3. About to put in an offer with the girlfriend on a pristine mcm on an acre that was the "guesthouse" of Phyllis McGuire...have learned all kinds of crazy things about water rights and community wells this morning...
  4. How about the fact that the guy is giving up living with his entire family, for this one dog...that is absolutely incredible when you think about it. Here is a guy that has millions and millions of dollars, a young family, all the toys he could ever want, and he is going to go play in Toronto and leave his family in St Louis for some pit bull his wife adopted a while back in Illinois. Amazing. Goes to show you the effect dogs have on people.

    2013 TV Thread

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 8, 2013 -> 11:18 AM) I enjoyed the premiere but was let down by the second episode. They needed to do a better job explaining why the leads were so pro-communist and anti-american to start. I feel like they did the opposite - they established that both had s***ty lives at home, became spies, live nicely in America but still want to bring death to democracy and capitalism. How does that make sense? Also, when you start the show with one of these people openly questioning whether to defect, their undercover missions become less important and the audience loses interest. Why do I care what they're doing when one of them doesn't really care? Why are they risking it all? And then Keri Russell's character at the end of this episode basically said the same thing as her husband in the first episode - yeah, i love my kids, maybe this isn't worth it. Hey daughter, let's get your ear pierced like these other American girls! So neither really believes in what they're doing anymore, they both are accepting of American values, and yet we're supposed to believe that they'll risk their lives for these crazy spy missions? Meh. They lost me. (and that's ignoring the really convenient FBI agent neighbor storyline) I think it's pretty clear that the husband is struggling with that very notion himself. You have to put yourself in their shoes a bit more...most of us are a bit young to really understand what the Cold War was like (I was in 7th grade when the Berlin Wall came down). But that s*** was for realz, yo...you grew up hating the other, and had some pretty intense pride in your own country. It wasn't wishy washy and you probably wouldn't abandon your patriotism for your own country just because you could live comfortably in the other country as a spy. I think they do a pretty good job of showing the US wasn't always just "the good guys" either. As for Russell's character, I don't think she pierced her daughter's ears because that's what the American girls are doing. I think she was trying to appreciate the time she has with her children now, because she senses s*** is about to get crazy. She pointed out that her own mother pierced her ears when she was her daughter's age, and seemed touched that her daughter was willing to continue that tradition as well rather than engage in the new American tradition of going to the mall to get it done. I really think the show is well done. I think the writing is solid, the performances are outstanding, the two episodes have been both action-packed but also revealing. I did get a bit annoyed when I saw a guy wearing some baggy carpenter's jeans in one of the mall scenes though
  6. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 10, 2013 -> 07:15 PM) Of course not, that was coming off of TJ surgery. His performance in the years before he was injured scares me. Maybe it's just taking him a little longer to fully recover. I just can't believe Francona wanted to sign up for that ride again....
  7. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 10, 2013 -> 09:12 AM) Do the Paterno's realize that by doing this, they're only reintroducing what s*** Paterno was into the public memory? I think she's probably trying to clear his name one final time, but I think you're right...just dredging this back up makes it worse...I think people will ultimately just think of JoePa as a bit naive and detached from this, but they won't really lay too much blame on his shoulders. It certainly destroys the rainbows and unicorns associated with him though, and I don't think there's anyway of getting around that.
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 10, 2013 -> 09:05 AM) Unsurprisingly, The Paterno family investigation has concluded that the Freeh report was uniformly biased against JoePa and is pretty much all wrong in every fact pointing towards the blame going to JoePa. http://m.espn.go.com/wireless/story?storyId=8930657 Was listening to Bob Ley's interview of Thornberg on Outside the Lines on the radio and he certainly didn't lay out a particularly convincing argument as to why the Freeh report cannot be trusted. His sole argument was that the report didn't interview any of the principle witnesses, so therefore it could not possibly be complete.
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 9, 2013 -> 03:51 PM) I think a case could have helped you out there. If you have a 4S for work, why can't you just wait a few months? Well, it's 2.5 years old...I got it the day the 4 came out, so I knew I would be ready for something newer by now. I could just use the 4S, but it makes me nervous using that as my personal phone too...my friends can be a sick bunch of idiots, so I'd prefer to keep that stuff relegated to the personal phone.
  10. I really need to get a new phone soon...my iPhone 4 is on it's last legs (too many drops, glass is shattered on the back), but I am just so underwhelmed by everything out there right now. I have a 4S for work and so I can always fall back on that when the 4 gives me trouble. I'm trying to hold out for the 5S or the 6, but not sure if I can make it that long...I've read that the 5S may have a faster chip and a fingerprint sensor of some type, while the 6 will actually be much bigger than the 4 and 5 to compete with the Samsung Galaxy line.
  11. QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Feb 8, 2013 -> 07:36 PM) What was the general reaction to Robin's appointment like on here? Originally, pretty much WTF?
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 8, 2013 -> 03:47 PM) Yeah, I was going to ask people about their history lessons, but it was last freaking year. At least last year we hired a new manager...there was some excitement about that...
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 8, 2013 -> 04:08 PM) His career ERA on the road is only 0.11 higher than at Safeco. Let's not act like Felix is solely a product of his home park. This ain't Clayton Richard we are talking about. It's not about Felix...the point I was making was that Safeco transforms average pitchers into very good ones. Considering that, an elite arm may not have nearly the value to them that it may have to other teams...so I think a good idea would have been to trade him for some young position players with good bats, because that is obviously their organizational weakness. Essentially, if you are long on pitching, pitching doesn't have as much value as hitting has, which they are short on.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 8, 2013 -> 01:42 PM) No, Germany isn't ahead of us in solar technology because they have a lot more sun than we do. The German gov't has invested a s***load of money into their solar industry...they've made a big commitment...and it is admirable...but I don't know if it will end up being an incredibly efficient use of resources.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 8, 2013 -> 11:42 AM) Still, this sounds like what the Twins did with Mauer (except that they were good before). That has turned into an epic disaster. This isn't to say Mauer is ineffective (quite the opposite) or that the Twins won't be good (because they can get back there), but not having that contract on the books would make it a hell of a lot easier. Well, if bringing in the fences does indeed negate the extreme pitchers' park Safeco has always been, then maybe it isn't as bad...although I still would have some concerns about the guy's arm...in the last few years of that deal, he's going to have a ton of mileage on him.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 8, 2013 -> 12:10 PM) So f***ing buy a goat, invite her over for Valentine's Day, and introduce her to your girlfriend. Present a double sided dildo and a bottle of Jagermeister. See where it goes. Honestly, what's the worst that could happen? I don't practice Santeria I ain't got no crystal ball I had a million dollars but I'd, I'd spend it all I could find that Heina and that Sancho that she's found I'd pop a cap in Sancho and I'd slap her down
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 8, 2013 -> 09:48 AM) Urlacher wasn't a physical specimen or a guy who ran a 4.4, he came out as a smart player who finished his tackle. Hating on Teo has become a national past-time, but he has the football smarts (and those only) to captain an NFL defense. That said, there's bigger fish to fry in the first round than MLB, but he'd fit in there nicely. Are you sure? I remember him being regarded as quite a physical specimen...a former safety that was big enough to play linebacker but still had tremendous speed...I remember him being thought of as quite the freak athletically and no one wanted to come out and say it, but especially for being a white guy, which is why the media hyped him up so much.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 7, 2013 -> 06:50 PM) Mariners are signing Joe Saunders. He might be good in Seattle. Everyone is good in Seattle...that's why extending Felix was ludicrous...
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 7, 2013 -> 05:01 PM) Of course, my immediate response on those two is..."King Felix wasn't slamming into fences and hopefully wasn't finding random people to shove needles into his buttocks". True...but he has been an absolute horse his entire career.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 7, 2013 -> 03:53 PM) Not trying to call you wrong...just wondering...who you thinkin' of? King Felix was in the MLB at what, 19? I know I've thought about this before...probably just need to look at a list of the most recent mlb stars that begun at very young ages...but the two that came to mind right away were Jr and Arod...
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 7, 2013 -> 02:19 PM) He turns 27 this April, so effectively, he's under contract from 27-33. Those are the years I'd pay for. I don't know if that same age applies to Felix...he's been pitching an awful lot of major league ball for 8 years now...just from my cursory observations, it seems like guys that start in mlb that young tend to wear down a bit more than those who start at more customary ages.
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 7, 2013 -> 03:43 PM) I didn't realize there was so much crazy opposition to "smart" meters (see the comments section) http://naperville.patch.com/articles/naper...member-arrested Oh man, you have no idea...from everything to invasions of privacy to giving them cancer, these people will say anything.
  23. QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Feb 7, 2013 -> 02:24 PM) So, not to jump to conclusions or anything, we're currently running a 2:1 ratio of people who think that pettie4sox would be into a strap-on session with the woman he just confessed to cheating on. Like I say, not to jump to conclusions. Oh, I wasn't commenting on the strap-on session...just the animal sacrifice...
  24. It's good for baseball that the Mariners extended him. Not sure if it is good for the Mariners though.
