  1. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:30 PM) When Gavin's pitches arent working then he plays this bad. Sure but the guys who you could throw in there could struggle alot. Gavin and Phil have ERA's over 5. We are not winning a whole lot of those games, especially lately. What exactly are they doing for us this year that couldn't be done by replacements?
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:29 PM) Yes, spot starts like Stults and Axelrod. I'm talking about start after start after start for an extended period of time. As it is, we're already going with a High A pitcher in Quintana. We can survive another, perhaps, but it puts so much stress on Sale/Peavy to continue to perform. Mr. Danks has to be a 2/3 guy and not a 5 from now on, that's for sure. No, there are teams that just throw guys out there and pitch for awhile. The Tigers certainly have done it plenty over the course of the last 3 years or so.
  3. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:26 PM) Well thats just plain not true. Gavin goes through these streaks all the time. Sometimes he is just plain nasty. He doesnt pitch like this everytime. I don't really remember Gavin being quite this bad, but I may be mistaken. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibilities that a guy could come in and put up a 4.2 era over the course of a year.
  4. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 10:24 PM) Ofcourse you dont have to make it now. You just seemed like you had a few guys in mind. In the end I dont think thats whats going to happen. No, I'm sure you are right. This was just in the scenario where you have a chance to get a superstar player and you need to go cheap with your rotation for a year or so.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 10:19 PM) Right now, the next starter in would clearly be Axelrod. Option 1A would have to be either Stewart or Santiago, but then you're going to get the game to the pen in the 4th or 5th. Option 2 would be Simon Castro, but can you really go to a AA pitcher in the heat of a pennant race? Didn't we already learn that lesson with Jackson for Hudson/Holmberg ONCE already? Teams do this all the time, guys...the world doesn't end if a guy comes in and gives up 4 runs. He's still a professional pitcher...he's not going to give up like 100 runs in one inning. And if he does, well, it still costs the same as Gavin Floyd and Phil Humber's losses do everytime they pitch.
  6. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 10:17 PM) You would think that. Or it could be quite the opposite. What prospects did you want up? Castro or Molina? Why would this decision have to be made now? Basically you'd be banking on someone showing you enough throughout the remainder of the year and then in the spring to make that decision then. It could be someone we get from trading Floyd or another player. It could be someone we sign in the offseason for $4 million a year. You've got Danks/Sale and you sign another guy, throw in the Feathered Serpent, and then hope a guy like Castro makes strides. Otherwise, maybe you have Humber back on track. I know the knee-jerk reaction is to panic, but we do have some people that can step in, just like Humber did last year, Quintana has this year, etc. And by the way, enough with the 6th grade insults with every post.
  7. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 10:12 PM) 3 guys who are pitching well right now and 2 guys who arent. Basically if your scenario happened you would have 2 reliable guys(if Danks pitches like he can). The prospects are a toss up(I hope you arent thinking about having Molina come up). Im interested in the vet you had in mind. This year we've had two starters worth a crap and Quintana for a few good abbreviated starts. I would expect we could piece together 3 guys that could give us what Floyd/Humber/Danks has produced for us thus far.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:11 PM) There is something to be said there. I mean, you don't even have to be seen as taking it, but you can say that it was an "interesting coversation"... helps me see what I'm doing here is .... yackity, schmakity... Any employer that holds it against you for listening, after what just happened 4 years ago, is naive or brutal.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 10:10 PM) We beat the World Series champs on the road with a Colombian 95% of SoxTalk didn't know about 4 months ago and yet we've spent most of the game thread trading Alexei Ramirez and Dayan Viciedo. If JR hadn't been burned by 2009-2011, there might be some willingness to spend on a Wright or Greinke. For now, they're too hot to the touch. Besides, the Mets aren't doing to lose both Wright and Reyes, their attendance is already falling big-time. They have to keep a homegrown star in the fold. As for Greinke, the price is Viciedo and Reed, bargained down to Viciedo and Jones or Mitchell. Nothing less. Yeah, Kenny won't make that deal.
  10. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 10:08 PM) I think if they got Grienke tomorrow they'd be among the favorites for the AL Championship. I think we already are.
  11. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 10:09 PM) Basically conceding that year. Awesome. How so? What do you think we're getting by with right now?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 08:05 PM) This. Trading in Chicago is a freaking fraternity. Everyone knows everyone. Honestly I think before i do anything i am going to talk to our COO. I don't want to leave where I am at now (the job is pretty solid, the work is manageable, the benefits are insane), but you never know either. But I could always use a few more dollars, and I am thinking about seeing what I can try to parlay this into. Honestly, in this day and age, even if I was your boss, I'd think less of you if you didn't at least hear them out.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 08:08 PM) Another consideration is if this company likes you, then depending on the type of internal transfers they offer, maybe there is a route to this spot which actually works out well for you and the Company. They get to continue to develop and utilize a valuable employee while you get further opportunities. All depends on how interconnected these companies are and how open the Companies are about transferring people. This is exactly what I did. We had to go through a bunch of bs protocol, but it should be complete within a week or 10 days.
  14. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 10:03 PM) Who do you replace them with? Or are you just going to throw bodies in there and see who sticks? Yeah, pretty much. Sale/Danks/medium priced vet/prospect/prospect
  15. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 10:03 PM) I think the need for a SP is paramount. Sure, but I won't burn Dayan on any of the SPs we've discussed.
  16. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 10:01 PM) Unfortunately for you I wont Well, I guess I'll be losing sleep tonight again then.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:59 PM) Peavy comes off the books, but they might need to replace him. They still have Floyd (if they take his option). Same for Dunn and Rios. Plus you have AJ to deal with. And of course Danks is on the books too. Dunn, Rios and Danks I expect to be worth it. I expect to dump Gavin and Peavy to walk or sign something team-friendly. Our rotation could actually get pretty cheap with the exception of Danksy.
  18. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:58 PM) and I care why? You obviously care enough to come here every day and post. You could at least not take exception to typographical errors caused by typing on a freaking tablet and stick to the baseball opinions.
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:58 PM) Plus the Mets really really like him. I think he'll get at least Ethier money. (5 to 6 years and around 100M). That is where I was going until I reviewed Prince's deal.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:56 PM) Cameron Maybin and Andrew Miller were overvalued and had yet to prove anything at the big league level when they were acquired. We have nobody like that, other than Mitchell, and he's not the centerpiece of a Greinke trade. I don't want to trade Viciedo for Zach. I would potentially for Wright.
  21. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:56 PM) Was that last sentence suppose to make sense? Sorry, iPad. You're making quite an impression around here.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:53 PM) That is where the megadeals are going. I was thinking more in the Jose Reyes territory...but I suppose you are probably closer a 200 than I am a 106
  23. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:53 PM) Did you forget about the other contracts that are monstrous? I bet right now Kenny and Jerry dont want to give a 7 year contract worth hundreds of millions of dollars to a player right now. Ill take the cost controlled guy who hasnt even reached his potential yet. No, I'm well-aware of them. There won't be an left after this year.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:53 PM) That is where the megadeals are going. I suppose you're right, considering what Prince just got.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:48 PM) $200 ish million over 7-8 years? You think he's getting that kind of money?
