GT: Sox @ da Champs, 06/12, 7:15, the U

QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:49 PM) It was based on you trading a cost controlled talent for someone who is about to have an albatross of a contract. Im just thankful you arent GM. Thats not how franchises are run. Luckily for you, I'm not putting in an application. There are certain players worth the money...is Miguel Cabrera worth the contract? The Tigers were ridiculous to trade cost - controlled talent for him...dombrowski obviously does not know how to run a franchise. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:47 PM) He would hit more homers with a swing like Dunn's, versus what he is using now. I dunno...he's strong enough where he doesn't need to. -

QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:47 PM) I know exactly what you mean. I think its asinine. But your entire post was based on him being a rental. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:46 PM) Figuring in the contract that Wright is about to get, I'd rather have Viciedo. I'd pay the money for Wright. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:45 PM) Swinging hard isn't the same thing as an upper cut swing. But an uppercut swing is not required to be a hitter that tries to be a power hitter. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:44 PM) I just don't see how the Sox can give up a cost controller guy like that and win a dael. Not too many guys in our system that can do this (and given the age of Dunn/Konerko/AJP) the Sox drastically need a young offensive threat or two. Unless I got a young dynamic CF or starting pitcher, I wouldn't deal Viciedo and I doubt anyone would give those type of guys up for Viciedo (cause there are very few of them too). I'd deal him for Wright if we could have the window. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:44 PM) Like Frank, he has a line drive swing right now. He swings out of his shoes every time he chooses to offer -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:42 PM) I don't even know where to put a ceiling on him. If he decided to be a power hitter, he probably has 50 home run power. If he decided? Just what do you think he has decided? -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:40 PM) And there's only 10-15 elite players in the game. I'm not going to put him in the Hall of Fame or anything, but he's going to be a very solid contributor who makes 2-3 All-Star games for the White Sox before all is said and done. Nobody acquiring him would give up "elite" prospects anyways, because he's a defensively-limited left fielder. He does have a good arm for the position, but that's more important in RF. Still, when you look at our roster in 2015 and beyond, we have zero power there except for Viciedo, Barnum, Hawkins, Trayce Thompson, etc. He's still worth a lot more to the White Sox going forward than to another franchise. It would take a huge haul for KW to part with him at this point, after all the development investment has started to pay off on him. Ok, I shouldn't have said elite. I guess I mean more like all-star. Now this nonsense about him not having trade value is pure horses***. He can't be amazingly talented and yet have marginal trade value, given his paycheck. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:36 PM) I think he has the rare ability to be a .300, 30 & 100 RBI guy. The average may be higher then some think but with that bat speed and his ability to hit (and with power to all fields) makes me think he can sustain the average. I think his downside is a .270 & 25-30 HR guy. Those are what I consider to be pretty lofty, yet relatively realistic expectations (although I might be crazy). I'm not saying he's going to be a .330, 45, 120 guy. I'm thinking more along the downside of what you said...and don't get me wrong...that would be fine....but I wouldn't lose sleep over trading that away if we got back a great piece we could extend. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:35 PM) He has the bat speed, more than even Frank Thomas, it's just pitch selection. He's more comfortable with sliders and offspeed pitches right now. For Big Hurt's entire career, he had a slider speed bat, but it never stopped him from becoming a first ballot Hall of Famer because of his great patience and plate discipline. Obviously, that's Dayan's weakest point, but, once again....he's a 23 year old still learning and adjusting. He has a full four years to go before he would even be considered to be in his prime. Hes 23, not 15. -

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:33 PM) Minor League service counts as pro ball. I don't think he'll be an elite offensive force. He will be for weeks at a time I think...just not consistently enough to be an elite player. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:30 PM) When he was hot, he started driving fastballs to right for singles as well as getting a number of groundball singles, and was keeping the pitchers honest. He also was laying off the high fastballs, and his K rate went way down compared to the first 4-5 weeks. Then he was picking his pitches to drive when ahead in counts, mostly sliders and change-ups. Now he has to make another adjustment. But he clearly had a different approach when he was going well there...it was obvious, look at his hit charts. He was spraying hits in 2010 too. He can't hit a good fastball. This poses a minor problem. I'm not saying he won't be a good hitter, I just don't know that he'll come anywhere close to meeting the expectations of you folks. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:27 PM) I don't know what to say, but this is idiotic. I'd understand if he's been s***ty his entire professional career (which is under one year and this is his 1st year of being an everyday player) but this is a guy thats done pretty damn well. Regardless of how well he does, if he doesn't show progress, then his value might be greater now than it will ever be. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:24 PM) In a short cup of coffee where he hit pretty well for a span? So add that time in with this time and we are talking about 3.5 months max? Not even a full half season of baseball. It takes a long time for a young player to develop. What we've seen in this period of time is pretty special and relatively rare. Note: Mike Trout and Bryce Harper are two of the rarest players in the history of baseball (putting up the numbers they have this early in their young careers). Dayan is also one of the younger players in the majors (not Trout/Harper young, but still pretty damn young). What I'm trying to get across is that he's extraordinarily talented at a young age...we all get that...I don't see him developing like most folks do. He's shown virtually no difference in approach since he was here before. In my opinion, I guess I'm saying he's very well might max out a a very young age. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:22 PM) With his bat speed, I'd be stunned if he doesn't ultimately end up being fully capable of hitting fastballs. This isn't a guy with the Slayer's batspeed. ? That should be the pitch he can hit. You don't learn to hit a good fastball at 24... -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:21 PM) He's 2.5 months into being an every day big leaguer and has put up strong power numbers and hit for a pretty solid average. How in the heck are you guys basing your entire opinions on what he won't do based upon 2 full months of baseball. Because he displayed this exact same thing two years ago. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:19 PM) Great. His power ought to put him in the cleanup spot anyway. Not when he can't hit a good fastball. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:18 PM) I might be mistaken, but I thought his walk rate had improved each year in the minors. So he's shown development from that perspective. No, you're right...we heard ALL about the improved plate discipline in the minors. It hasn't translated. -

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:18 PM) I think he will make too many outs to be a dominant offensive player. I don't think he'll be a #3 hitter. Agreed -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:12 PM) Except he's still incredibly young and developing. With his bat speed, I wouldn't be surprised if he develops into a dominant offensive player in the future (and a relatively consistent one). The biggest thing to ensuring that happens is pitch recognition/approach and I expect that to improve with experience. Yeah, except he looks the same every year. Look at his f***ing walk rate -
