  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 11:29 AM) Did you get a Galaxy Note by any chance then? Which I have seen and those are insane. Ironic how all these same folks were making fun of the iPad as an oversized iPhone, and now they are putting that thing up to their ear.
  2. I actually do #5 more often than you could possibly imagine
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 07:50 AM) Yeah, I know things are great now, but everything could go wrong! See, I could be a writer too. Ahh, we can't criticize a guy simply for writing the truth...is it the article we would have liked to see, perhaps not. But I have no problem with that. At least he writes something that involves at least some modicum of analysis. That's more than I can say for most Chicago baseball writers over the course of my lifetime.
  4. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 12:28 AM) Time To Turn Things Around. VS JUST WIN! Hah, funny when this is the best picture we can find of Gavin not looking like a loser
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 07:40 AM) Worrying about the Sox's attendance figures seems like it should be the least of his concerns. Hell if there was an attendance bump, then writing the Cowley/Piss in the cheerios article could get him more press. I wasn't arguing that it was his concern. And I don't think McNeil has anything against the White Sox. He is a White Sox fan, after all. It just seems like an oddly-timed article.
  6. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 08:34 AM) I seriously have to be the only person to ever have bad experience with Apple products. My MacBook CPU gets to over 100* Celsius if I dare open more than 3 programs. I've had a few problems in the past. I had an iMac whose hard drive crashed. Twice. My original iPad also had a problem with the dock connector and had to be replaced. Apple products are certainly not immune to breaking or having problems just like anything else. They just tend to happen fewer and farther between than with other brands I've used. When they did break though, Apple always honored their warranties and made it easy to replace the item.
  7. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 08:36 AM) I've been an iPhone user since the first generation...and I've NEVER used a case on ANY of my iPhones. And I've broken or cracked exactly zero of them over that span of time. Zero. And I've dropped a number of them on sidewalks, in parking lots, etc...some people just aren't lucky. It's a phone...not a football, not a wrench...a phone. Made of glass, silicon, plastic and metal...they're not supposed to be invincible. It's no different than a laptop or tablet...you don't go around dropping those and complain if/when they break. I've been in IT for well over 10 years as a professional, and before that, for over 10 years as an enthusiast...dating way back to the 1980's and my Commodore 64. I've seen technology grow and change, and I've tended -- over that time -- to grow and change with it without regard to brand loyalty. I'm loyal to my users, and my time. My parents and Windows did not mix. Since moving them to OSX, their "tech support" calls have fallen from once a day to once a year. Yes, please. Yeah, I don't use cases for my phone either...i like to be able to easily slide it in and out of my pocket and the rubber cases have a tendency to grab the fabric of your pants. I've also dropped them a million times. My iPhone 4 has a few battle scars, but it's a phone. It's not a piece of artwork I hang on my wall, nor is it something I intend to have for more than 2-3 years.
  8. QUOTE (jhonnydanks @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 02:06 AM) this mcneil article has been pissing me off. i'll be the first to admit his thoughts and arguments are valid (you're kidding yourself if you don't have the same concerns), but i see no reason this has to be published. it is lazy journalism, perhaps only brought out because he had a deadline to make and has fallen off the wagon over the past week or so (fishing trip + alcohol). if felt compelled to call in tomorrow, i would not argue his points (again, they are valid) but more so why this is the route he chose to take in light of all the recent (and positive) developments. just had to get that off my chest. don't stop get it get it Yeah, it sure seems oddly timed...You are right, the article makes all valid points, but usually in an article such as this, it seeks to inspire some kind of debate by balancing some of the negative with some positive spin. This one just seems like he's trying to piss in everyone's cheerios, just as the Sox are seeing a little bump in attendance recently.
  9. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 08:28 AM) This is such nonsense it's not even funny. Why are people sheep if they love something that you don't love? It has nothing to do with "sheep"...it has everything to do with having a device that's so easy to use that my parents -- who are in their mid 60's -- can use it without calling me constantly for help. Not only that but the quality of their devices. My mother, also in her 60's, has broken more laptops and cellphones over the course of the last decade than probably any other person on earth. They might last 3-4 months due to her spilling things in them, her dogs drooling on them, her dropping them, etc. She's now had an iPad and an iPhone for 2 years now and neither of them has so much as a scratch on them.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 09:53 PM) Apple is overcharging their customers because people are paying for the brand?! No way! Overcharging? It seems to me like maybe they've streamlined their production costs and leveraged their position within the industry to negotiate very profitable deals with the carriers to build those revenues. iPhones, considering their capabilities and quality are very reasonably priced in the market. They certainly are not gouging.
  11. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 12:54 AM) It's quite amazing how easy it is for them, once they herd the sheep. What is it with certain topics with you, where you just insist on making completely inaccurate statements for baiting purposes? I'll be the first to agree that Apple certainly attains part of their customer base due to them being a "fashionable" brand. However, you acts as though their products aren't industry-leading. Simply because you buy the best product on the market does not make you a "sheep." The iPhone, all things considered, has been the best phone on the market since its inception.
  12. I'd actually prefer the Tigers get that one....I know in the long run they are probably the better team, but I don't want anyone getting too hot...I was happy with the way that series split.
  13. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 09:12 PM) Yea well, I agree with Hawk on that point. Walks irk me unlike anything else in baseball. It can be frustrating, but it seems as though he'd rather give up more runs rather than have to sit through the walks.
  14. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 10:09 PM) I don't remember this point. I remember EJ giving up 6 runs in games like that, not 3. Jake could have easily pitched a shutout...he was pretty unlucky in that second inning. Hawk has no patience for guys that walk people...he always would get on Jose for that too...Contreras would give up two runs but because he walked 5 people, Hawk would be on his case the entire game.
  15. Alex! Jake! ODawg! Nate! Addison! Matty!
  16. I've had enough of ODawg...we need to find a solution.

    Job Hunt Thread

QUOTE (G&T @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 02:01 PM) I agree here. I haven't had occasion to do a lot of hiring, but the number of people who either have bad formatting or put experience that is so totally irrelevant to the project that it is off-putting is amazing. I had someone (who I eventually hired) for a legal research project put life guarding down as experience. Since they were all students, I figured I'd let it slide. Meanwhile, I had a phone interview today at a place I thought would be perfect for me. During the interview it became clear that the listed responsibilities I was most excited about aren't really the primary responsibilities...and might not be part of the job at all. I was interested in compliance and policy work, but it turned out to be representation, and case load supervision. So the next time I get concerned about over selling my experience on my resume, I am going to remember that they probably have over sold the job responsibilities. If you are open to it, take a look at FERC compliance work or compliance work as it related to the energy markets and the commodities markets...field is expanding very rapidly right now.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 11:16 AM) And don't forget, all of major league baseball could have had him for the price of $50,000 just a few months ago. Hopefully expectations aren't too high for Jordan. The difficulty lies not in paying the monetary price for a player in the Rule-5 Draft, but rather in having to carry him on your roster all year long. That is what deterred teams from selecting him.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 11:19 AM) This has nothing to do with the quality of their current products or future products. It has everything to do with trying to slow down the competition. Plus, I'm sure a lot of people will care if Apple somehow gets this ban to go through (which would be absurd BTW). They already held up HTC in customs for the stupid data tapping crap. I know some co-workers who ordered the new HTC Evo 4G LTE from Sprint and haven't gotten it yet because of it. To say the least, they're not happy. This is why I said highest-selling and not highest quality.
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 09:53 AM) It's seriously pissing people off. It's not like the people who are pissed off that they won't get their Galaxy S IIIs or HTC One Xs on time will switch over to the iPhone. They get those phones because they like the big screens, not Apple's puny 3.5 inch screen. They'll just be pissed off at Apple even more. Apple is losing its stake in the phone market. It's been that way for like the past couple of years with Android becoming very mainstream and Windows Phones picking up some steam. They're just trying to compensate by suing over ambiguous things. Thing is, I don't think it's going to sway public opinion to go towards Apple, it just makes them look like bigger dicks. I don't think Apple gives a s*** if they are pissing you off. The VAST majority of people don't know or don't care about any of this nonsense. They are merely trying to use whatever means available to them to continue to produce the highest-selling products.
  21. QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 08:02 PM) Ohman lol...he's right. Rasmus was being a complete cock there. No ones trying to hit you idiot. That stupid attitude is a large part of the reason he was traded
  22. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 07:38 PM) We have 1 hit so far. All it takes is a bloop and a blast
  23. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 07:31 PM) It would be nice to have Toronto's pitching ? We're facing their 1 and 2 with our 5 and 6, basically.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 07:28 PM) Rios really did just miss that ball...too much sink on it. I thought he should have crushed it
  25. QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 07:25 PM) Gotta score to win the game anyway. Let's get a run or two here. How DARE you!
