  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2012 -> 07:20 AM) Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi Sources: #Tigers have interest in trading for Carlos Quentin. He has a scorching 1.463 OPS in 12 games with #Padres since returning from DL. Go ahead and trade for him...by the time you get him the hot streak will be over and he'll pop out 100 times in a row to right and then scream "f***" as he jogs to first base.
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 10:23 PM) Knowing him, he'll be hurt after his first 3 starts. Oh, when did you meet him?

    Job Hunt Thread

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 14, 2012 -> 07:12 AM) Put an application in on CareerBuilder for a job in Indy this morning and got a call back 5 minutes later. Have a really good vibe about this one. Wow...I've never heard of a response that quick! Good luck and keep us posted, HH.

    The Pet Thread

Yeah, he's going to be sore for the first couple days. The bigger pain in the ass, IMHO at least, is keeping that damn cone on his head to keep him from licking the incision or trying to pull out the stitches. I simply could not bear to watch my dogs wear this thing around so clumsily, so I always just removed it and kept an eye on them. They also sell something called the "comfy cone" or something that is much more reasonable. As for his activity levels, just don't actively encourage him to play too strenuously and I think you'll be fine. Don't worry too much about trying to restrain him or anything unless he seems to really be pushing the envelope. They say they get dogs back in after a neuter all the time with re-opened wounds, but I've never seen it happen with the 15+ dogs my family and I have had that have been neutered.
  5. IMO, the degree is to get your foot in the door...to pass through the initial screening. You think once you do that anyone gives a s*** what your major was? Your work at a given company speaks for itself. If you learn what you should be in college (what helps you learn most efficiently, how to network, how to navigate people's bs and political agendas), you can move up in just about any profession through the work you do once in the job.
  6. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 08:52 PM) You mean the last 3 weeks where he's been hitting .446 ? Well, to be accurate, that is his OBP over that span, but yes, he hit .379 over that period But over the past two weeks he's been making some weak efforts and has visibly been pouting immediately after seeing the result. A few times he hardly bothered to run. We get it, PK is infallible and above all criticism.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 09:46 PM) I didn't think he pouted on that last swing, but his body language has been awful for the last 3 weeks. He wasn't even in the picture when the first basemen caught the ball on a soft double play ball to third base. At least run in case he f***ing pulls him off the bag with the throw or something.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 09:40 PM) Wow, what a terrible swing on the 3-1 meatball. Konerko had a terrible chop swing going tonight, as he should have been doing nothing but try to hit the ball in the air. Choke job by the offense tonight, plain and simple. Then he pouted again and didn't even bother trying to run.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 09:35 PM) f***... He has no chance Seems like this happens every time I do this with Dayan
  10. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 09:23 PM) I do not drink............If he is that f***ing bad and cannot run he had no business hitting. This just happened last night...it's not like he's been sitting for 8 games
  11. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 09:19 PM) Then go on the DL playing like that helps no one. Haha
  12. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 09:17 PM) What the hell run Dunn that was horrid. He's got a bad ankle
  13. I just saw the Brew Crew is only 5.5 back...I'd be surprised to see them deal Greinke if they hang around that close.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 02:49 PM) I went to college for p****, booze and drugs, not to challenge myself. Honestly didnt care what classes I took. business degrees are just the first step towards an MBA. Most of us are doing things in life that are totally unrelated to our degrees. All I know is every time I see your damn avatar I wish I had gone to school closest to wherever the hell Kate Upton used to hang out...
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 11:32 AM) this thread needs more anger... f*** THE ARCH! IT IS THE MOST OVERRATED TOURIST HELLHOLE OUT THERE! Schnucks has a terrible deli counter!
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 01:34 PM) Where is that found in the constitution? I don't think they even contemplated that would ever be taken away...so why guarantee it?
  17. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 01:24 PM) Well it doesnt matter to me what degree you chose. It does matter to other people though, so if you take that into consideration, it may matter what major you decide. I dunno that it matters as much as people think. Obviously some jobs require specialized learning more than others, but the vast majority do not.
  18. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 01:19 PM) Then if its such a smart decision, those who went to College shouldnt complain. I obviously made a conscious effort to get a College degree, so it stands to reason I believed that it was worth it. But if any of my friends started b****ing about going to College, Id really have little pity for them. You seemed to be arguing earlier that the entire college "experience" is where the true value lies...if that is the case, why does it really matter what major you chose?
  19. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 01:18 PM) Exactly, so to bring my point back full circle, don't you see the problem with college now? That the entire economy is basically requiring that you get a piece of paper that's essentially pointless**? Why not push vocational schools which are essentially apprenticeships? Why don't employers view that as a positive? Laziness? Don't want to check into your job candidate, better to weed them out based on where they got a degree? I don't know, but that's where we're at. More "educated" but inexperienced people looking for jobs. **and yes, you obviously learn skills and other useful information in college. But a lot of that can be learned through internships/early jobs. But the problem is if you go that route you're limiting your future earning potential in 95% of cases. The problem isn't with our colleges, its with the amount of money they are charging to attend.
  20. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 01:03 PM) Actually, I learned quite a bit about organizational management and behavioral theories. My business management degree was a mix of psychology and technical skills (along with my IT major which provided more technical skills but more importantly how to lead in IT). Learning how to work with others in group projects was also essential, and not as many majors encourage or stress that as much as a business major does. The thing is, even if you feel a business degree is bulls***, almost everyone that I know that graduated with one landed a $55k or higher job, which allows them to take that shock of paying bills much easier. I've learned in my interactions with people in my company that it is invaluable to learn how to deal with different personalities in different situations and understanding all the different political agendas at work. I'd think they'd teach you some things on how to deal with a lot of that nonsense in business programs...or at least you would learn it from the exercises and projects you worked on.
  21. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 12:59 PM) You mean you have skills that people learn in High School. Business degree is considered a joke by many. So once again, what real life skills should they have wasted my time with in College? Should they teach me to balance a check book, create a budget, tie my shoes? Those are things they taught me in elementary school. I went to College to be challenged, not to just use nonsense buzz words on my resume so I can get paid to mindlessly work. I learned to communicate, analyze and present?!?! Isnt that what they taught you in grade school? How to format an essay, how to present an argument, how to frame a debate? I just expect that people who are going to College already understand this. Wow...you're coming off as an elitist cocksucker in this post.
  22. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 12:57 PM) But they're so worthless. No one I know LEARNED anything that they later used. Yes, you could self teach yourself all you want. You can do that for free without going to college. Unfortunately employers require that you show them a degree. This has nothing to do with what a student can/can't do, and everything to do with the way the entire system is set up - go to a bulls*** college and get a piece of paper and 4 years later pray you can get a job. Is this the case for all students? No. But the vast majority that's the way it works. And then 4 years later it's a big surprise when those bills start becoming due every month and you don't have a meaningful job because you thought getting a business degree would make you the next CEO of a company. This coming from a law grad? You could self-teach yourself everything you learned in law school. Hell, I never attended one Con law class, and got B+'s in both I and II.
  23. I'll say this...we have a lot of young adults on this forum...ages 17-22...there are a few I am very, very impressed with, and I can tell from what they post and how well they articulate their thoughts and present their arguments that they have developed some very solid skills. The several that I have been very impressed with are all either in college now or recent college grads.
