  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 08:00 AM) That is pretty bogus. I worked at Jerry's flower shop for 2 years before i left Carbondale and Valentines day was the day that you agreed you werent going home until every order was out, and the orders were all double checked. Most of the pre-orders were on the table waiting for me when i walked in the door. They need to deliver those flowers, and then some, AND comp it Yeah, I agree...I almost feel bad for them today...I am sure today is the day they have to get screamed at by the _% of people who they inevitably failed. It was really disappointing because when I got to her place, she was emptying out a vase, and clearly was expecting that I would bring flowers with me...which I should have done anyways...I had sent them to her work because I know women enjoy getting them there...but when I didn't hear anything from her I should have stopped and picked some up somewhere, even if they were lame. Then when she gave me Scarface on Blu Ray with a card it was even more frustrating. I'm going to try and just be nice about it when I talk to them, but if they refuse to refund the purchase I will probably go nuclear on them. Say hello to my little friend...
  2. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 15, 2012 -> 07:58 AM) I bought it at 4$ a share in 1997. Wow...how many shares do you still have?
  3. FTD did not deliver the flowers I ordered for the girlfriend for Valentine's Day to her place of business. I placed the order on February 6. I have a feeling there will be a showdown with the customer service department today.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 06:27 PM) My best friend didn't want kids. He was really happy with the married downtown lifestyle, seeing shows with his wife whenever he wanted to, drinking until all hours and coming in when he wanted to. Me and Brian(ironic that is his name, no?) Both ended up getting our wives pregnant at the exact same time(not planned) and our sons were born 4 days apart. Last time we visited them, about a month ago, Brian said to me "You know, I work 10-12 hour days. I deal with assholes all day long, and I'm taking a class on wednesdays and Fridays after work. I get maybe 45 minutes to an hour with Jack when I come home, and I get to play with him and put him in bed. It is the best 45 minutes to and hour of my entire day, I look forward to it all day long" I honestly never thought I would hear him say something like that, and I have known Brian since I was 6 years old. I am not saying you are like him and this will happen to you. All I am saying is do not discount it. Having a child is one of the best things that can happen to a person. I also think you can't really know whether you want kids until you fall in love and get married...having a kid isn't just something you think about from your own perspective...it's something that comes out of being with another person...so just wait...

QUOTE (farmteam @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 06:06 PM) In Utero is indeed a much better album in terms of quality (I find this odd, I never agree with you on music!), but when taking importance into account, Nevermind just blows passed it. Nevermind was still an awesome album, but even Cobain said he hated how polished it sounded. That's why I like In Utero -- takes a lot of the raw energy from Bleach, yet still somehow refines it and adds the band's pop sensibilities. I'm surprised more people don't love Nirvana's Unplugged album. Probably my favorite acoustic album of any artist, it's phenomenal. Nothing can give me chills like Cobain yelling/howling/rasping "shiver the whole night through" on the last refrain of "Where Did You Sleep Last Night." I loved that album...I can still see him wearing that thick wool cardigan sweater and ripped jeans...that is always how I remember him... My girl...mah girl...don't liiiieeeee to me...tell me WHERE did you sleep, LAST niiiighhhtt? Great, now I'm going to have that damn song in my head all week.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 01:12 PM) That is pretty commonplace for the Chicago suburbs, for a good place. Ours is in that territory, I think it was actually $400 a week to start, and goes down with each level, until $350 for pre-school. Our daughter just turned 3 and just moved up to preschool, she'll be in there another 2.5 years before starting kindergarten at the elementary school. Now we have another due in June, so for about 2 years, our day care expenses will be about $700 a week (they do a small discount for multiple kids). That is $36,400 a year for that two years. Each kid, when they get to kindergarten, will have cost in day care tuition... $107,280. Oh my god. I hadn't done that math until just now. ho. le. s***. Thank god we moved somewhere that the public schools are excellent, so we can have a 13 year pause in paying school tuition. Then there's college. Also worth noting, you can get cheaper than this. Or, amazingly, more expensive. We picked the place we thought was best, it happened to be the 2nd highest of the four we looked at. ALL of them were pricey, and we thought it was silly to shave off the last ten or twenty bucks a week for a lesser education. Honest to God, I had not done that complete math until just now. Unbelievable. There is almost a case for just having one parent not work to avoid those costs if you get much higher than that...
  7. Happy Birthday, fellas! Enjoy your day!
  8. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 11:10 AM) I don't know if that's what she intended to mean either. But at minimum she was expecting more governmental assistance in her life (from policies created/extended/adopted by Obama) to lessen the burden of her having to pay for gas, her mortgage, etc. At most she seriously did think that she'd no longer have to pay for her gas or mortgage because Obama would take care of it. To me it perfectly summed up the average voter in this country - generally ignorant and uninformed not only about the political process, but of politicians and their true motivations. I took that she meant things would improve under Obama to the point that these immediate concerns would no longer be as such....but maybe I am giving her the benefit of the doubt, because to think otherwise would leave me sort of incredulous...
  9. I think he just wanted people to stop mentioning we were the only team not to sign a FA...
  10. Good signing for that money...he'll draw a few big walks I am sure...
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 11:02 AM) ISFA owns the stadium, so the Cubs would pay ISFA for its use, not the Sox. As for concessions, all I know is that there is some sort of deal there where the Sox get some chunk of the revenue. I have no idea how much, or if it varies based on item, etc. Well, that is interesting, because the Sox may have some sort of right to assign temporary use or sublease the Park....I can't imagine the ISFA can just lease the stadium to another tenant during the baseball season without the permission of the main tenant, the Sox.... My guess is both would profit.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 09:30 AM) When I had two kids in day care ours was $210 a week. With only one it dropped back to $140. Buy one, get the second one for half price?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 10:10 AM) Ours will be 375/week A WEEK? Where are you going to be taking him/her?
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 10:08 AM) The money is obviously guaranteed. I just didn't understand your minor league war comment. It's not like in 4 years he's a FA again. He's Cubs property for a while. Everybody knew he wasn't ready for the majors right now. Just think of these contracts in the context of what Evan Longoria and Ryan Braun got shortly after reaching the majors...these guys have proven nothing close to what those two did...it's just crazy IMO.
  15. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 07:46 AM) Thank you. And teams can't go out and simply sign a Strasberg for $15 million. You have to be the worst team in baseball to earn that right. As for the 15 Goodwins for one Soler, I'm sure everyone here would take the quantity over the one stud prospect. Unfortunately, as has been mentioned multiple times, teams will no longer be able to go over slot without consequences under the new CBA. The Cubans represented one last loophole under the old system. A team like the Cubs that is rebuilding and sitting on a ton of money is smart to overpay for some of these guys. Having said that, $27 million for Soler doesn't work for us and it's hard to blame KW for taking a pass. This nonsense only goes so far. Much, much, MUCH of the value in a player like Strasberg or Harper or whomever at the top of the draft is the fact that you obtain his rights for 6 cost-controlled seasons. However, when you begin handing out $27 and 36 million to entirely unproven players, you start shredding all the value in a signing such as this. There are MLB veteran free agent players available every offseason with far more certainty attached to their performance that can be signed. There is not such a talent void in the FA market or the trade market that you need to begin handing out contracts in the tens of millions for players that have not played at a level higher than A ball. Yes, it's generally in the best interests of any team to sign prospects with the kind of talent Soler and Cespedes possess. But when you begin paying them as successful veteran players before they prove they can play at a major league level, the notion of signing a stud "prospect" becomes null and void, since you've already begun paying them as if they are quite a bit more than prospects.
  16. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 13, 2012 -> 10:08 PM) Odd, Ms. Hill came on Pandora the other day so it got me looking into Lauryn Hill. It could be anything, hopefully she reads some of her crazy poetry. Hah, she is crazy...she almost directs her band as if it were an orchestra...she just played many of the songs from her own albums and then a few Fugees songs. It was a good concert, but I wish she would have played a few more songs in a quieter, slower tempo, or else maybe acoustic. It was difficult to hear just how talented she is with as loud as her band played some renditions of her songs.
  17. Girlfriend just called with Lauryn Hill tickets for tonight...I'm pretty excited...I loved her...like 10 years ago...no idea what to expect now, but it should be pretty good.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 13, 2012 -> 08:47 PM) If this is the same guy, 2k5 deserves a 40 day suspension. I had never head of this dude, either. He was 84 when he died in 2004 at least...maybe he was just 8 years and a month late posting this...
  19. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 13, 2012 -> 07:44 PM) I don't know who that is, but he died in 2004 according to Wikipedia. That was some funny s***, Milk. Maybe he meant Ray Raynor? (I don't know who that is either)
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 12, 2012 -> 03:02 AM) Thanks for posting that. I have read that players in that game call it the best National Anthem they have ever heard. That's pretty intense, RIP Whitney. You almost got the sense from that rendition that the song wasn't grandiose enough for her...that she could sing that without much effort at all...

    The Pet Thread

I believe I have read that dogs and chimps are the only animals that can understand to look at something a human is asking them to look at by pointing at it... Then again, I mentioned earlier that dogs can smell cancer cells before any other detection technique we have and no one was impressed by that...
  22. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 13, 2012 -> 03:55 PM) Hyundai Sonata Honda Accord I would say those are pretty familiar in terms of using sharp lines, it's a bit more exaggerated in the Sonata but I think many cars are using this style now. I think the Civic is closer to Hyundai's styling. Honda Civic I guess I am just not a fan of Hyundai's styling...I like that Honda much more than the Hyundai...to me, the Hyundai looks like plastic..it doesn't look substantial or solid...again, it's just a personal thing.
  23. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 13, 2012 -> 02:19 PM) Hm why do you wonder? So far I see almost every major car company copying many of the same styles and designs of Hyundai's. Hondas and Hyundais actually look fairly similar nowadays from what I've seen. Do you think? I see Hyundai as using some very sharp lines in most of their vehicles right now...not sure how that "look" will hold up with time.
  24. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 13, 2012 -> 02:10 PM) As in how their current styles will look in 4-5 years or what their styles will look in 4-5 years? Thus far they have led the industry in styling, because they had to get noticed and put loads of money into R&D (in US locations primarily). I would be disappointed if they strayed from this business model. EDIT: I will be looking at a Hyundai for my first new car (bought my current 03 Hyundai from the parents who bought it for me to use in high school and during the summers), the Veloster has gotten great reviews and the Elantra and Sonata are leaders in their respective categories. The former.
  25. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 13, 2012 -> 01:58 PM) BTW good selection the Sonata, I love me some Hyundais. I just wonder how Hyundai's styling will appear in 4-5 years.
