QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 11:59 AM) 10-year old lab mix, always have just fed him Purina Dog Chow, recently switched him to the Senior (7+) chow. (Don't tell anyone, he doesn't like people knowing his age) The PetSmart near us has a Banfield hospital inside. We have the pooch on their wellness plan. About $32/month, every year it includes 2 health exams, all needed shots, & a dental cleaning, which alone makes it a great deal. Also, gives discounts on any other medicines/services you may need. You'd be surprised at how little you need from the vet when you invest that money into their diet instead.

I don't think we discount your information..in fact, I appreciate it. I think sometimes it's more in the delivery than the content. As for supplements, I drink a protein shake on days I work out, but that's all. I don't eat a lot of meat in my diet and so I think I probably benefit from a little bit of added protein in a shake. I do agree with you though, if you just eat with a bit of common sense, you will experience great results with any sincere workout. It's amazing how quickly I see results when I just put in 5-7 hours a week.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 11:51 AM) When I first got my dog, I took him to training classes when he was old enough at Petsmart. The lady trainers said she recommends foods high in protiend, specifically endorsed Pedigree and Purina. Specified that you should not feed your dog what your vet gives you at their office as they are probably getting paid to do that. Case in point, our vet gave us some kind of Science Diet and it gave my pup the runs. Never head a problem with Pedigree and Purina stuff. Only when I give him too much rawhide, will he get tummy aches but that is my fault and I portion it. He will be 2 in May and he is fully potty trained but still wants to go out and tinkle every 2 hours. I used to give him a treat after he pee'd so figured maybe he was going out so frequently just to get a treat so I started just giving him a treat after he went #2 and it worked. Lots of learning as I go with him. Hills (the company that makes Science Diet) basically owns the veterinary industry in the US. They subsidize the schools, the clinics, you name it. Therefore, most veterinarians will straight-up lie to your face about what your pet should be eating and why what you are feeding him (if it's not Science Diet) is not the ideal food for him. Imagine your doctor telling you that you shouldn't feed your children free-range meat and organic vegetables, but instead Hungry Man dinners? When it comes to protein, however, there are all sorts of arguments out there regarding how much a dog needs. The bigger question is what is the quality of the protein. Not the quantity.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 11:11 AM) My dog supports the vegan lifestyle. Natural Balance Vegetarian Dry Dog Food. He is one of these crazy animal right dogs. Interesting...what inspired you to feed him that?
-
Does anyone feed their dog/cat a raw diet? If so, what? If you feed them a regular kibble or wet food diet, what brand do you buy? What are your experiences with your dog's diet? Allergies or other expensive vet bills?

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 12:48 AM) Anyone take any supplements before working out? I know people that have taken NO Xplode and Jack3d and heard good things about both. Rock would be your man for that, but I don't know where he went...

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 04:37 PM) I think drunk driving certainly harms people. But yeah, I see your point. Well, the distinction with tobacco has always been that it may kill you and others even if used entirely properly. I would guess driving while intoxicated would fall under not being used properly.
-
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 04:26 PM) Not sure if this was mentioned before, but the tobacco industry was hammered on second hand smoke. The fact that a smoker is affecting a non-smoker was, and is, a HUGE deal. Drinking doesn't have that same stigma, other than what drinking can CAUSE you to do. But the actual act of drinking doesn't harm anyone around him. I think that was a huge win for anti-tobacco. Good point, and part of why smoking is viewed as being so disgusting in the present time.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 01:27 PM) If you live in a culture where you don't drive much, you won't drive drunk much, either. It applies to urban life in this country to some extent, too, but if you're in the suburbs you don't really have a choice to walk to bars. Right..I agree with that...and it's a reason it should be less celebrated, and yet it isn't. s***, our local economies and many small businesses depend on the consumption of alcohol...I would go so far as even saying "the irresponsible consumption of alcohol." And yet people act horrified when they realize that the same people that patronize these places actually have to get home somehow...

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 11:04 AM) We were told they were a breeding pair at a small breeding operation/ puppy mill that were removed by an intermediary, they are supposed to be around a year old. I believe it with Fred, but not so much with Wilma, I think she is a bit older. They aren't potty trained, which really sucks, but they are really sweet dogs and very much in love with each other, they can't stand to be apart So are they both still intact?
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 09:27 AM) So for a little backstory, I had two dogs pass away within the last two months. My basset was 13 years old and had cancer and needed to be put down(thanksgiving night), and my Chocolate lab was 11 and had a heart attack 3 weeks ago and didnt make it to the vet. So we werent really looking for new pets, but a rescue situation was presented to us, and we ended up with Fred and Wilma here Sorry to hear that Kyle...but congrats on the Flinstones! How old are Fred and Wilma?

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 10:14 AM) As long as you aren't one of the people that go to the dogpark and tell everyone how your dog is a rescue dog 15 times good for you... No s***! Everyone always gives me some s***ty look when they hear that I bought my Great Dane from a breeder. I have a dog I rescued from a local shelter as well. He's eaten half the furniture in my house because he has some crazy separation anxiety. I tried everything, and almost took him back (which would be very hard for me to do), and then my mom suggested I try one last thing...Prozac. He's been on it a week and it has made a HUGE difference. Anyways, the point of my story is there is a reason some dogs need to be rescued...because they are f***ing crazy...and not everyone wants that. However, many, many of them are just there because their owners were idiots, and it is a great thing to rescue them.

Happy BDay Keith! Enjoy your day!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 07:53 AM) They are all over downtown. I have never bought anything from them though. I would never think to either, but the gf, who is a major foodie, is obsessed with them...so I have been dragged into it. It's sort of like eating a much wider variety of ballpark food...but then unfortunately, there is no game going on at the same time That's probably why women love the concept so much

So has this food truck craze swept through Chicago yet? I know it's been a big thing in LA for several years and we're sort of downwind of everything LA here in Vegas. The lady friend and I went last night to some thing with about 20 of them and gorged ourselves on all sorts of various heart-attacking delicacies...it was sort of like a mini Taste of Chicago, I guess.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:09 PM) I guess I'd have the same reaction as your initial one, what's so great about it? Big celebrity neighborhood? Yeah, I guess...the Kardashians, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Jerry O'Connell, Cameron Diaz, and on and on and on...and yet there are only 22,000 people or so there. Maybe you'd bump into them at the Starbucks

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 04:07 PM) I take it is somewhere famous? Yeah, Calabasas.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 02:49 PM) Just be careful that when you're forced to make that choice that you don't make a rash choice based on the feelings you have in a single moment. That happened to me when dating a girl going into college, was going to break it off and then that last weekend we talked and it kinda spurred into us deciding to do long distance. Yeah, that is a pitfall I am well aware of... Last night she threw out the option of us both moving into her childhood home that her and her bro own...when she told me where it was I didn't think anything of it...because I don't watch E! or anything...then I mentioned it to a friend and he almost spit out his coffee...dating this girl just gets more fun with every passing day

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 01:41 PM) We picked up a Nikon D3100 last year and have loved it so far. I did a little bit of research before hand, and it seemed like the choice between Canon or Nikon came down to personal preferences. The big takeaway I took was not to get too bogged down in all the technical aspects and just go shoot. I don't think you can go wrong with either of those lines. I am anxious to hear what people think of the Sony Alphas...

QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 01:48 PM) I am beginning my quest for a digital SLR. I will be shooting mostly landscapes and travel photos. Any recommendations? I have been really happy with Canon SLR, but my point and shoot is a Nikon and I may look closer at them. If you ask anyone whose done a lot of work with SLR's, they'll recommend the Cannon EOS line or the Nikon D line...the new Sony Alpha line is supposed to be pretty solid as well. I usually start my research at cnet.com

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 10:24 AM) That is something for the team that trades him to consider. The problem is if the Colts are going to trade him, they can't make the trade by the time his bonus comes due and thus, the Colts would be paying the $28M bonus vs. the acquiring team. So basically the Colts would be paying 28M for a 1st round pick (or whatever they get via trade). Which is a tough risk to take... -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 11:22 AM) Nothing wrong with that honestly. Just don't let what is coming in the near future taint things one way or the other... that's the hard part. Exactly...
