  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 30, 2012 -> 10:32 AM) They trotted out the same denialist crap again, there was nothing new to their assertions at all. What would you have them trot out? They're the people advocating for the status quo...all they must do is point out how wrong those seeking drastic change have been.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 30, 2012 -> 10:28 AM) Did you even read what he posted? The whole point of it was not to cheerlead, but instead to see both sides. WSJ elected to post an article that tried to apply argumentative logic to prove the falsehood, but turned down the one that instead used scientific principles. Even if you believe only one or the other, publishing one without the other is a pretty good indicator of bias. That was the point. WSJ obviously comes down on one side and has every right to publish whichever article they choose. Every paper in the world does this. SS, and yourself, obviously come down on the other side and are offended by this. As if there are not enough forums or venues from which to get climate change/global warming information...why are you both so incredibly offended that the WSJ would only publish the side that furthers their agenda?
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 30, 2012 -> 10:22 AM) Forbes does a good job of laying out how hackish and terrible the WSJ's editorial pages are: Come on...both sides obviously have an agenda and will martial their resources to fight for it at all costs...all you're doing is cheerleading for the side you happen to agree with here.

    2012 TV Thread

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 30, 2012 -> 08:59 AM) I checked out the new one last night. Lots of TnA and cool fight scenes but the acting and plotlines are still pretty bad. I'll do what I did with Blood and Sand - keep a bunch on the DVR and then make a marathon of it. Yeah, that's what I do with them too...I laugh my ass off at the dialogue...Imagine if you played a drinking game where you took a shot every time they said the word "cock." You'd be hammered after 15 minutes.

    2012 TV Thread

So I was a big fan of Spartacus: Blood and Sand, but I missed the premier of Gods of the Arena when it was first airing. I managed to DVR the last 5 episodes of the season, but Starz did not air the first episode again after the initial airing. I had it in my Blockbuster queue for months but it was always a "very long wait." Finally I found it on iTunes and watched it on Apple tv. Finally, I was able to get going on this damned series...it's been pretty good, but a lot of the plotlines seem to be recycled from the Blood and Sand. Vengeance started last week so I will be excited to get into that once I finish the finale of Gods of the Arena tonight. I do miss Andy Whitfield.
  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 29, 2012 -> 11:13 PM) Syncing Google contacts on the iPad isn't self-explanatory at all. And it comes with stock Android devices, but I just want basic Google talk on the iPad and I can't find one, all these paid apps. Yeah no... see, Google is free. f*** you mean PAY? I downloaded Google talk for my iPad..I think I had to pay $2 for it, which is ridiculous. I'm not sure which I downloaded because I am at work, but if you just read the reviews, you should be able to find one that works well.
  7. Sounds more like he is trying to pave the way to lesser expectations to me...
  8. QUOTE (scenario @ Jan 29, 2012 -> 08:58 PM) Follow up notes... The dog is now recovering at home. The case will go before a judge in about 2 weeks. A fund was set up for anyone willing to donate to help out with medical expenses (which ran over $6,000) Address and phone number below... "The benefit of Wednesday's surgery and recovery" c/o Freeport State Bank 1718 S. Dirck Dr., Freeport, Illinois 61032. TEL: (815)-297-0900 Awesome, Patrick. Thanks for posting that.
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 29, 2012 -> 01:30 PM) I already made my point about how i feel earlier in the thread. He isnt changing your mind, you arent changing his. The mudslinging is starting, and it needs to end because you are both stubborn and wont back down. Thats it. Well I must admit it was me doing most of the mudslinging, with Milk just egging me on in a dick kind of way Agree to disagree. Scenario, any more news about this slimeball?
  10. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 29, 2012 -> 01:56 AM) Wait, are you saying any team that acquired Manning is an instant playoff team and SB contender? I think that's what he's saying. As for his comment about the Colts, let's give them a bit of credit for the last 8 years or so...that roster is getting a little long in the teeth and their better days are behind them, but in their prime I think they were pretty solid, Manning or not. Hard to dispute the instant playoff team part...I don't think anyone could convince me that any team, if you placed Manning as the starting QB, isn't a playoff team. Now the SB contender, I don't know about that one...
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 28, 2012 -> 09:54 PM) Bout to take the plunge and go ahead and get an iPad... which I have ZERO use for but just want really bad.... I want to know if there are any accessories I should have? I've had the original with no accessories other than the case and been entirely happy with it. I guess this assumed you have some spare headphones lying around. One thing I guess I would consider if you do a lot of typing is the keyboard. With it, you can prop your iPad up and type on a physical keyboard, which is very helpful if you plan to type documents or something. However, if you're just going to use it for casual use, this is probably not necessary. Enjoy!
  12. I think this is one of the last cassette tapes I purchased. Great album.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 28, 2012 -> 03:45 PM) Weren't those both top 10 picks? Those would be bad picks to be making. Jesus Christ. Fine. Go pick some Roddy White's, Phil!
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 28, 2012 -> 03:19 PM) Trib Pioli's comments are a bit humorous in light of the article that came out about the Chief's FO a few weeks back. Well, Phil...draft some more Brian Urlachers and Eric Barry's!
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 28, 2012 -> 12:51 PM) It is safe to say we have hit "agree to disagree" territory here. Lets just let this one go and see what happens in the court of law Except that 1) there won't be a court of law (at least not one we will hear about), which is my entire point; and 2) Milk could give about some "due process" for this loser, he's just trying to be a freaking contrarian. If this were your dog or your friend's dog that got shot and I came in here spouting off about how we need to hear about this wonderful drunk's virtues, you would tell me to go to hell.
  16. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 28, 2012 -> 05:56 AM) Because the guy might be in the right. And suddenly you're the Perry Mason of soxtalk. Full of s***, Milk.
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 27, 2012 -> 12:55 PM) That's missing the point. He's exposing the gaping logical hole in that argument, not claiming that AGW is true because "follow the money." I don't agree. He attacks one of the WSJ article's arguments with the exact same reasoning. And it happens to be true. There is a tremendous amount of money on both sides of the issue and each side is simply trying to point out the financial motivations of the other side as their singular and deep dark secret behind their claims.
  18. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 27, 2012 -> 12:40 PM) Ed Kilgore with a solid take-down of the nonsense climate change denial article published by the WSJ today Hmmm....I wouldn't characterize it as a solid anything, let alone take-down. This article basically does the same thing as the WSJ article: It raises the same broad excuse for why the other side must disagree....simply because it's in their economic interests to do nothing about Global Warming.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 27, 2012 -> 07:03 AM) I could see the Tigers doing that, they have no DH. I'm not benching Brent Morel for Dmitri Young. Ever. Wow, I originally bolded this because I thought it was an error on your part...but it really is Dmitri!
  20. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 08:48 PM) The sad thing is that if they just dropped the extra two charges they'd probably have broke even or saved money considering the amount of hours their employees have had to put into this. Plus they would have had one less angry customer. Yeah, we all have wasted far more in productivity than $105 would deserve...but now it's about principle.
  21. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 11:37 PM) You can commentate all you want. The guy was a drunken hillrod who probably also ate the dogs and butt raped men resembling Ned Beatty whenever the chance presented itself. So you just decided to come into the thread to uphold the scales of justice then, right? GMAFB. This is a friend of Scenario's. What is the point of you coming in to stick up for this fool that shot his friend's dog?
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 04:48 PM) Shack, I'll reach out to someone I know at Wells and find out what the real answer is. I'm pretty sure they can waive those fees. My wife and her whole family has worked in the banking industry a lot (BofA and Wells) and one has been at Wells for a long time. When I see her this weekend I'm going to ask her out of curiosity sake. I know I've had a couple fees waived no questions asked (purely based on an extensive account history of NOT having issues). Usually if that is the case, you are fine. Typically there system prevents them from doing it multiple times (so if you had like 4 waived in one year, they'd cut you out; but if you had 1 or 2 over a 4 year span, that shouldn't be an issue at all). Talking to the people involved, you'd be amazed at what people have the authority to do (whether people chose to use it or not, that is a whole nother story). Thanks Jason... This afternoon, I called the bank manager of the bank where I originally opened my account. He tried to get me to pay the fees as well, and then seemed to soften a bit after I asked him if he would pay the charges had it happened to him. He offered me three choices: 1) Pay the fees; 2) Open a new account and pay half the fees, but please deposit $100 into the account within 30 days; 3) Do nothing. I asked him if I took option 3 whether or not I would be barred from opening a new account due to them reporting me to Equifax or something. He admitted most banks do not report overdrafts of over $100. I pointed out their fees totaled $105. He said well, that would probably draw the same outcome as if it were below $100. He said he couldn't guarantee anything, but seemed to be implying that they would not report it. I asked him to let me think it over and I would get back to him. I do not feel comfortable with option 3. Option 2 involves paying less money than option 1, however, I don't think I have any interest in opening another account with Wells Fargo after this experience. Three of the four people I spoke with treated me worse than ANY other person in any service industry in my life.
  23. QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 04:02 PM) I don't believe he brought up the PSU case to compare. That was done for him. No, we brought up his reaction to both. He then explained that away by comparing the situations. Either way, the point is, the one is an extremely high-profile situation in which we knew more facts would come out. The other is a local story about a pet dog, which will most likely not be reported about again. I'd say jumping to conclusions about Joe Paterno in a child sex scandal and jumping to conclusions about some random guy who shot a dog are slightly different things, wouldn't you?
  24. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 12:24 PM) And to even have a Grand Jury, there needs to be evidence gathering in the first place. With this, we got a woman saying "this is what happened even though I didn't see it". Are we done here yet? What? Give me a break. You're comparing a high-profile case about potential child rape to a local story about a dog being shot by a drunken hillrod and expecting the same amount of evidence gathering. What kind of evidence gathering would you suggest we collect before it is safe in your opinion to commentate (which by the way, I find f***ing ironic as hell since that sure as hell doesn't hold you back from commenting or speculating on any other matter)?
