QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 08:53 AM) The 10/21 on its own really isn't all that great, there were a number of short passes that should have been completed. His numbers are decent, but they're really dominated by 1 80-yard sprint. He played a fair game, but if he'd been able to hit what should have been fairly easy passes, the broncos could have won by 20. Oh come on now...that's a bit harsh...Tom Brady he is not, but he played a hell of a game yesterday. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 06:33 AM) Agreed, I like Cheadles character a lot. And I want to see Kristen Bell get naked Good to hear...I DVR'd it...simply because I love Cheadle...and Kristen Bell is hotness... Finished Dexter the other night...man, you guys weren't kidding...what a steaming pile of s***...

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 04:00 PM) I'm hoping this thread sticks around. I started up a pseudo book club with a couple buddies a few months ago (shared Google doc of books to be read, etc) and I looked around to see if there was a thread on here that would have some suggestions. I enjoy legal/spy thrillers like those written by David Baldacci and Michael Connolly. Any other suggestions for authors or titles? Read Joseph Finder...he writes stuff that could be described as "corporate espionage." Pick up "Paranoia"...one of my favorites...

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 01:32 AM) New Orleans is amazing. Bourbon street I was somehow arrested on Bourbon Street for public intoxication. Explain that.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 08:29 PM) The injuries hurt them, but I think they were prepared. They ran the exact same gameplan KC did last week. KC's corners were good enough to cover the Broncos receivers, but the Steelers CBs weren't. They kept stuffing 8 or 9 in the box and depending on man coverage. Their corners got burned, especially Ike Taylor. Tebow is better at the deep ball then short passes and he beat them. The Chiefs corners are great...there are not many teams that can play man with these ridiculous rules favoring the passing game...and they did that without their best corner, mind you. As for the Rivers/Cutler discussion, Rivers gets the nod fairly easily at this stage of their careers, although Cutler did get the best of him this year. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 02:01 PM) http://www.csnchicago.com/blog/whitesox-ta...rce=twitterfeed Ridiculous that cities have laws like this...especially some of the more progressive cities like Denver.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 12:18 PM) It would be criminal to sit Luck with Manning starting. Nobody in the history of the QB position has been more NFL ready than Luck coming in. I'm sure Seattle would be more than happy to give up their potential selection of someone like Brock Osweiler, for a few years of Manning. I'd trade Luck. I think Manning will be fine for the next 4-5 years. Deal Luck for something insane...I heard THREE first rounders+? And worry about getting another QB down the road, when Peyton is truly done. If you want to make the most efficient use of your assets, dealing Luck (or the pick) will get you far more value than Peyton at this point. -
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 09:10 AM) So did I. Really interesting stuff I didn't know about him. That was actually not bad. That was better than most of the rap lyrics I have heard since Tupac died...

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 12:49 AM) The newer version of GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO is 5X better, wow....Rooney Mara totally scared me, I can see why some families/adults even are steering away from this one, very dark, much moreso than original Swedish version. Seriously? I saw it last night, actually...and while I thought it was very good, I thought it was almost the exact same movie as the Swedish version, with the exception of the ending. I guess they did make her a bit more frightening, but the people in my showing were actually outwardly cheering her on during the movie...they didn't seem "scared" of her at all... I find the gratuitous nudity a bit odd as well...(not that I am complaining). Rooney Mara did do a wonderful job, but I thought Noomi Rapace did an awesome job, and didn't have the advantage of watching someone else play the role first and then copying and adding to it...

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 10:45 AM) Nothing new but when I get crazy on my work out kick, I just go with a high protein and low fat diet and then when I get close to where I want to be I start to watch the carbs as well, it honestly sucks but it works... My girlfriend is this super-skilled baker...she's been working with a nutritionist for the last few years developing recipes for sweets that are high in protein. They still have high fat contents but they have virtually no carbs. The nutritionist claims that even though the fat content is high, the lack of carbs makes them much better for you than normal sweets... Oh my goodness they are gloriously tasty too...best things I've ever eaten...If I am really craving something sweet, I will eat it immediately after my workout because your body will basically devour anything you put in it at that point, so I doubt the fat is a concern.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 05:04 AM) Me and my boy brought home 2 girls from a bar tonight. We were chillin, f***in around having a good time (me and said buddy tryin to get it in), and one throws up all over the place in the bathroom and her girl had to take her home. Ruined the whole night. Typing this with my buzz gone too. Which one of you got to clean up the barf?

QUOTE (Disco72 @ Jan 7, 2012 -> 02:59 PM) It was good, not great, imo. Interesting but not nearly as compelling as The Devil in the White City. That's disappointing... I'll add my thoughts when I finish it up, hopefully within a few weeks.

2012 Cuban signees thread Cespedes/Soler/Concepcion
iamshack replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 7, 2012 -> 02:15 PM) I'm going to guess between $40 and $50 million. I'd still prefer the Sox go after Soler. I think he would fit the contention timeline better and won't break the bank as much. Could one imagine if Kenny gets Cespedes and he's a bust or average at best? He's not necessarily a sure thing. Some baseball people have compared him to Cameron Maybin with more power potential and less speed. He's also not a lock to remain in CF, some see him as a corner guy. Kenny just be damn sure he would pan out if he plans on giving him such large amount of money. If he does get $50-60 million, it will only be from the Marlins... I'm still sticking with my $32 million max number...he's too much of a risk still at this point...but who knows, someone may get caught up in the hype and just go crazy. -
Third week is in the books...starting to feel like I am kicking some butt...and seeing some nice results. On the nutrition end of things, I've been on a soup diet. Basically, I am making a huge pot of homemade soup, and eating it for most meals for a week. When I finish it, I move on to another soup. I usually have one or two slices of ciabatta along with it, but otherwise, this has been my meal for dinner and most lunches (some days at work I have had salads). To make sure I am getting enough protein, I'm drinking Muscle Milk Light protein shakes after every workout. Feeling pretty good right now. Sometimes when you're working out hard the super nutritious meals don't feel all that filling, since they are so low in fat, but these hearty soups are definitely doing the job. Anyone else on any new diets or anything?

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jan 7, 2012 -> 03:05 PM) I also really enjoyed "The Art of Fielding." One of the best books I read in 2011. The Road was really hard to read at the beginning but once I got into McCarthy's style it became a lot easier and I enjoyed it. Currently reading "Speaker for the Dead" by Orson Scott Card. Not as good as Ender's Game so far but still excellent. Well this makes me feel better...maybe this was my problem as well...when I read No Country, I hated his style, but the story was good, so I stuck with it. I've heard even better things about The Road, so I guess I'll try and get through the beginning...this will be one of my New Years' resolutions Also have Game of Thrones on iPad, along with Buried Secrets by Joseph Finder. Oh! Has anyone read Erik Larson's "In the Garden of Beasts"? I bought that one on the iPad too and forgot about it...

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 7, 2012 -> 07:54 AM) Les Snead is the guy from the Falcons. Other choices are Washington director of player personnel Morocco Brown who worked in the Bears FO from 01-08, Steve Keim(same job title) from Arizona, Jimmy Raye Jr., San Diego Chargers director of player personnel; Marc Ross, New York Giants director of college scouting; Ray Farmer, Kansas City Chiefs director of pro personnel; Lake Dawson, Tennessee Titans vice president of football operations; Will Lewis, Seattle Seahawks vice president of pro personnel; Louis Reddick, Philadelphia Eagles director of pro personnel; and Sheldon White, Detroit Lions vice president of pro personnel. Lake Dawson? Is this the receiver from Notre Dame like 15 years ago? I am in a similar position as Gould...I don't know much about many of these guys, but Jimmy Raye Jr sounds intriguing to me...the Chargers, despite their shortcomings on the field recently, have been as talented if not more talented than any team over the course of the last 5-7 years, IMHO. -
Read Steve Jobs' biography, which was outstandingly done. Tex, glad you enjoyed The Road. I've had it for about 3 years now and have not been able to make myself read it after reading No Country for Old Men....McCarthy's writing style is definitely something.

My question is what is the Padres' angle here? They really, really like Cashner?

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 10:53 AM) I agree to an extent. I live in an area where a lot of girls get knocked up young. A lot of times it seems like they're praised for it. And not to sound sexist, but I'm about to, it usually ends with the mom staying at home for years and years while the dad takes up the vast majority of responsibility. Hmm....coincidence?

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 03:30 PM) Reading that mess of tweets, I don't think he was ever referring to the trade when he did the "joke's on you" tweet. I think he was referring to the person he said had "down syndrome". I think he has consistently said the trade is happening. Now I am not saying it is true, but I don't think he has flipped sides. Why does the hashtag say "forrealthistime" then? -

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 12:33 PM) Totally agree. I think this is the year we see the Cutler offense. Jay isn't Peyton Manning or Tom Brady or Drew Brees....he strikes me more as the type of guy that needs to be coachable instead of the kind of guy that needs to help coach. -
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 11:38 AM) You could always go to the store, find the model you like and then buy it on Amazon. But really the checking it out in the store is kind of worthless. They jack up the picture settings so much that it's totally different once you get it home. All you need is cnet.com

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 11:21 AM) That quote was talking about software, not unopened dvds. I'd be hard pressed to find a place that happily lets customers return open software. That's been the norm for ages. That article about the fall of Best Buy was just b****ing about bad customer service. Next article that guy writes should be about the demise of Wal-Mart then. What an asshat. And I agree about the 0%. Also, is Amazon going to be able to show me the picture quality of HD televisions? There's no way I'd buy a tv online without seeing it vs at Best Buy who will pricematch anyway. That article was s***. They told him DVDs qualified as software, thus, they could not accept the return. How about you go into Best Buy and see the tv in person, then buy it online? I've done that with my last 3 tvs.
