QUOTE (Felix @ May 4, 2011 -> 10:58 PM) Normally it wouldn't be, but when it comes with more shots than points, including another 8 3PA night, and eight turnovers, I'm not going to be convinced that it was a good game. Also, directed at FOP, I think it was already pointed out how flawed a stat +/- is, so citing that as a reason he was good is kind of absurd. This really isn't worth arguing about though, so I'll shut up. I understand you think we are all simpletons and can't understand advanced statistics, and I readily admit I am still trying to comprehend many of the new baseball statistics, so I sure as hell haven't gotten around to the basketball variety. But I feel like I've watched enough baseketball in the course of the past 27 years or so to recognize a horrible game, a really, really bad game, and whatever other outrageously negative adjective you'd like to assign to his performance, and that performance doesn't strike me as that. It seems like if Derrick wanted to satisfy your idea of a good game, he could just refuse to accept the scoring load and just look to distribute and take the ball the the hoop all night. That way he'd stockpile assists, free throw attemtps, and probably shoot for a higher percentage since so many of his missed shots would not count because he would be fouled. Nevermind the Bulls would probably score 70 points and lose by 10-12, at least he would compare more favorably to Chris Paul that way.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 4, 2011 -> 10:31 PM) Hawks fan this round? Terrible is a hilarious evaluation of his night. You're just not going to convince me that 25/10/6 in the postseason is "really, really bad."

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 4, 2011 -> 08:54 PM) Cooper as interim manager, and depending on what he shows you go get a new coach in the offseason and if Coop and the new coach can work together, great, if not, the new manager gets his man at pitching coach. I think it's safe to say Cooper would never preside over the team as interim manager, and then yield to some other manager next year, especially considering he has the Yankees knocking on his door.

QUOTE (Felix @ May 4, 2011 -> 09:52 PM) Jordan never came close to averaging the number of threes Rose averaged a game this year. He realized his limitations, and instead got to the line way more on a regular basis. But Jordan had plenty of performances worse than Rose's today and not many people were calling them horrible. I am perfectly willing to accept Rose's performance today as "disappointing," or as Lost said, "mediocre." Horrible, it was not.

QUOTE (Felix @ May 4, 2011 -> 09:46 PM) Horrible is very accurate for his game. You can say that some/most (depending on your outlook) of that is because of the ankle, which is certainly true, but it doesn't mean the game wasn't horrible. He was really, really bad. Oh give me a break. He had 25/10/6. I realize he took 26 shots or whatever, but the game was not horrible. I would have loved to have you commenting on some of the Jordan performances back in the day...

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 4, 2011 -> 08:34 PM) Horrible game. I didn't even watch it, but following it on gamecast was even a pain. Turnover after turnover, 3 point shots left and right (that would miss). Somebody needs to tell Derrick to stop shooting these. If you want to fix your jumpshot, do it in practice. Oh jeesh. I think "horrible" may be a bit strong. Not his best game, but he's playing on an injured ankle with an offense where he basically has to generate everything.
-
Well, the Hawks are shooting 34%, pretty much what we thought would happen. We just need to score another 10 points or so and this game is over...

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 4, 2011 -> 08:56 PM) That's why I said give it the season. Changing GMs or managers or coaches really isn't going to make a difference right now. At the end of the year, if the team was crap JR shouldn't decide which of KW or Ozzie to keep, he should get rid of them both, and take all the coaches with them. I would also imagine the KW/Ozzie relationship has a good chance of going sour if the losing continues, because fingers will be pointed, things will be said. I hope this works and still think there's a chance, but if it doesn't, I hope JR decides to try something else. These seasons are starting to seem like re-runs. Well, I'm all in favor of bringing in Dave Martinez. And I think doing that now could pay dividends this season. I do worry about losing Cooper, although I don't want to argue this because I know you don't feel the same way. Edit: Then again, I'm not really sure poaching other team's coaches in the middle of the season is really something that happens, so we might be stuck with some kind of interim manager. I wouldn't even mind having Cooper take the reigns.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 4, 2011 -> 08:25 PM) NIce try. You really need to read a little better. I wrote if he doesn't pick it up soon. If he doesn't this season is in jeapordy and the White Sox window may be closed. $14 million a year DH's on non contenders usually isn't a good idea. Oh, so 38 games in would be a suitable sample size for whether a 4-year contract was wise? DA, I admit you make some valid points and I admit that just because a signing or acquisition seemed wise at the time doesn't negate results. And I am in agreement that the responsibility ultimately falls on the GM, regardless of what a player's history might have suggested at the time of the deal. As the old adage goes, better to trade a player a year early than a year late. Perhaps we have been acquiring some of these players a year late. But hindsight is 20/20, and the complete collapse of several players who have track records which would never suggest the performance we have seen is certainly not something that can just be completely ignored. The bigger concern to me is not who is to blame right now but rather why has this happened in the past and why does it continue to happen to us? Why have we had so many talented rosters not perform up to their potential, over a span of different managers, different clubhouses, against different competition, etc? What can be done to prevent this from happening again? I still believe there is too much talent on this team to not put together a prolonged stretch of very good baseball, but I am ultimately in agreement that some changes have to be made at the top. I just don't subscribe to the notion of criticism that implies that any of us could have seen this coming.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 4, 2011 -> 08:17 PM) Why? There were plenty of publications that had the Sox an average at best team. I liked the roster, but I don't get paid millions to construct it. If the team is bad, its on the White Sox organization. If they are all in and the team falls flat on its face, its time for someone different to make decisions. If you can't recognize or admit mistakes, you keep making them. KW has been real good with off the radar acquisitions the past several years. His big ticket moves have mostly blown up in his face so far. I loved the Peavy trade, but there's no denying just because I liked it, it was a mistake. I liked the Dunn signing, but if he doesn't pick it up soon, it was a mistake. I liked the Jackson trade, but if the Sox don't win and he leaves, it was a mistake. Alex Rios is still owed $50 million. Picking him up was a mistake. A lot of people loved the Swisher trade. It was a mistake. Results are what matters. Not the backs of baseball cards from previous seasons. I don't know where the "criticism is unfair". If this is the best he could do, its not good enough and there has been a pattern developing here. They are below .500 vs. the AL since winning the World Series. Interleague can't come soon enough for this team. You think 30 games is enough to declare the Dunn signing a mistake. That's really all I have to say.

Charles with some stern criticism for the Bulls....ouch...

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 4, 2011 -> 07:03 PM) They said they are all in. They probably all deserve to get canned now, but I think they should play it out and if they fall short this year, clean house. New GM, new manager, new coaching staff, new era. All in IMO means your bes shot. If this is their best shot, major changes need to be made. I'm as disappointed as the next person, if not more, but I think it's a bit disingenuous for any of us to pretend as though we saw anything like this coming. Sure, some of us had our concerns, but this is defying all explanation. I think criticisms like this are unfair and invalid.

Damn, she is trollish on The Killing. You must not like redheads....when she has some color in her face and her hair is curled, she looks really pretty.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 4, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) See I think their major advantage is that they are a one stop shop for their devices. Google may have launched android etc, but all of the hardware is being produced by other companies which makes them lose total control over user experience. Apple focuses on the hardware being simplistic, there being one place to get add ons and apps, and keeping the user experience very even across the board. Some people just really like that simplicity. That too.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 4, 2011 -> 11:22 AM) Because I just can't. If I'm insensitive then so be it. I can understand being a little moved. But he said tears. I'm sorry. I've got a lot more important things to be moved to tears about than a rich superstar athlete getting choked up at an MVP press conference. I didn't get choked up in '96 after the 4th title and MJ was balling over his father. I get why he got REALLY emotional. Me? No. That's not happening. But I will apologize to Soxfan because it seems as if I was making fun of him or something when I really wasn't. Man, you are incredible sometimes. Maybe take some time to realize that not everything is about you all the time. And not everyone sees things the way you do. And not everyone has had your same experiences. And not everyone can just sit around and get blitzed every day and rip people a new asshole. What the hell do you care if he was moved to tears? Why do you feel like you have to even comment about that? Even if you, in your wildest dreams, could never imagine reacting that way, do you have to take exception to him reacting that way? He didn't ask you to hold him while he replayed it over and over again. I was moved and I didn't even see Rose's speech. I can relate to him just by reading what he said and what others said about it. My mother is my hero in life and she was everything to me for a very long time; she still is the person that makes me get out of bed and go to work when I don't feel like I can otherwise. And whom I think about when I am about to do something incredibly stupid or irresponsible. Sometimes its better to not say anything, dude.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 4, 2011 -> 11:57 AM) But Apple mostly just owns intellectual property. Their designs are why people pay extra cash for their product. If people came out with the exact same product and design for 50% of the price, apple is done. And that social network line just is not similar to this type of IP. Well, as usual, I disagree with you. The reason Apple is so successful is because they anticipate what the market wants better than any other computer/electronics manufacturer in the marketplace. Their designs are beautiful, functional, incredibly intuitive, practical, and most importantly, backed by a ton of support from third party developers. All of their devices get copied, but it doesn't matter. The other manufacturers just don't seem to get it. They don't come with the intuitive design, they don't have the third party developers on the scale Apple does, and they don't see the forest for the trees. It's isn't that they are incapable of designing a touch screen, it's that they don't realize that it's uncomfortable for a user to use a touchscreen desktop monitor because of the ergonomics of how one is positioned while using a computer, while Apple does. It's that they don't realize that someone would utilize a tablet if you make it outstanding at handling tasks that don't require heavy word processing/typing such as multimedia. Do you really think that Apple is so far ahead of the curve from a technology standpoint that these other companies can't manufacture devices that Apple does? That obviously is not the case; you have copycats hit the market within 6 months to a year with almost every device. Where they are lacking is in imagining how and why the device will become something the use can't live without, and the multitudes of other services and products that can be marketed along with the product, such as iTunes and the App store.

Holy crap....I dunno if this has been mentioned before...but the chick who plays Sarah Linden in The Killing, Mireille Enos, is like 1000 times hotter in real life than they make her look in the show...WOWSERS Edit: I see she's been in Big Love and a lot of other shows I have never seen, so maybe everyone else knows this...but jeesh...I saw a commercial with the cast of The Killing not in character and I didn't even know which character she was, she looked so much different.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 3, 2011 -> 09:40 PM) Or it could be because there's a lot of people who didn't have a father figure growing up and have great relationships with their mother. But nah, I'm just a p****. I know we've had our disagreements over the last year or so, but +1 broseph.

QUOTE (Real @ May 3, 2011 -> 08:03 PM) Beckham was safe, would've probably been ruled a fielder's choice error though There is no hit on a failed double play. Would've just been a fielder's choice.
