  1. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 23, 2011 -> 06:35 AM) I completely agree with above and I think it comes from the fact that our farm is so s***ty, any decent looking prospects is viewed as next Babe Ruth. Daniel Hudson was getting some pretty solid national attention for his efforts. Sure, he was a bright star in a sky full of very dull ones, but he still went out and pitched superbly against the competition of other team's systems and proved he belonged at every level til he reached the parent club. I'm not a Daniel Hudson guy - and I wasn't from the time I first saw him pitch on tv - but this wasn't a matter of him being only touted by internal scouts.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 23, 2011 -> 06:36 AM) A firesale rids you of your high priced guys. Who are the Sox going to dump where other teams will be willing to take the contract and actually give you something useful? Dunn? No. Rios? No. Konerko? No. AJP? No. Ramirez? No, the Sox won't trade him. Pierre? No. Buehrle? No. Jackson? Probably not. Thornton? No, unless he picks it up. The only guys you really could deal and get something decent for are Danks, Floyd and probably Quentin who seems to be back. but then you are still stuck with a roster full of guys with bloated contracts where you have to take the stance they will bounce back next season meaning guys like Danks, Floydand Quentin have to be replaced, not in 5 years, but immediately. That will cost any money you are saving and then some. I really doubt there's a firesale if the losing continues, although I truly believe the losing won't continue. Oh come on now, Dick...There would be interest in Dunn, Jackson, Mark and Thornton. Konerko, you'd probably have to eat some salary, and possibly some with Dunn, but there would be some interest. Especially with Edwin/Mark/Thornton. The Indians traded Casey Blake to the Dodgers for Carlos Santana a few years ago. If you moved 6-7 of those players, including Danks/Floyd/Quentin, you'd likely bring in 15-20 young guys, with probably 5 of them being pretty high upside. I'm not going to argue that you could field a competitve team right away, but in a few years you could definitely look up and have a very nice young core.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 23, 2011 -> 03:55 AM) Who decides when postponed games are to be made up? The Twins and Indians got rained out tonight and they didn't schedule a double header for this weekend. Not only does that seem like something that should be made up ASAP as opposed to scheduling something in the future (not real reason I'm upset), but the Twins will almost certainly be healthier and playing better and the Indians more banged up and s***tier when the teams finally do meet. THAT'S BULLCRAP I believe it is the home team. And they probably would rather play it later in the season when the weather is better and they can draw more at the gate.
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 23, 2011 -> 03:50 AM) I suggested in the Catch-All that Sweeney would be starting for quite a few other teams, and I think I'm right. He plays good to great defense at all 3 outfield spots, draws a walk here or there, hits for the tiniest bit of power, and hits for a pretty damn good average. He's not starting in Oakland simply because they have 4 better players than him in Willingham, Crisp, DeJesus, and Matsui. Honestly, if the Sox aren't sold with Viciedo's defense in the outfield or if Quentin decides to take a dump the rest of the way and is non-tendered, I think he'd be a good buy-low candidate to start in either LF or RF next year, and I really don't like Sweeney at all. I think his upside is probably that of about .300/.350/.450 hitter - and I know he's never shown that type of power, but I think it's about the most he can do - and he would be a great 4th outfielder even if he didn't do that. Oh, and Chris Carter a bust? Already? Dude's 24 and has never been given a real shot in the majors. I think he might have a bit of Mark Reynolds syndrome, but he should certainly be able to hang in the majors. Is Crisp a better defender than Sweeney? Is that why he is the better OF?
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 10:12 PM) So that's what this entire b****fest is all about? One guy says "I'd trade Rose for Paul" and it explodes for like 100 posts? From my vantage point, Rose and Paul are pretty much equally valuable players who perform in different ways. Paul is a distributer who can control the tempo of a game and will get his teammates open looks all the time, but still has the ability to score and drive to the hoop on occasions. Rose is very much the focal point of the Bulls entire offense as he controls literally everything for the entire team, and whichever way Rose goes so go the Bulls. If you put Derrick Rose on the Miami Heat, they probably wouldn't have won any more games. If you put Chris Paul on the Heat, they probably win 5-10 more games because it allows Wade and James more freedom and allows them to actually run offensive sets instead of getting like 99.4% of their points off of fast breaks and isolation plays. But, if you replace Rose with Paul or Paul with Rose, neither the Bulls nor the Hornets would have been nearly as good. The Hornets a probably a similar team to what the Bulls had for Rose's entire career - a .500 team that can fight and scrap their way to a couple playoff wins and then go home. The Bulls are probably an inconsistent offensive team that lost more games down the stretch than they already did and they probably "only" win about 50-54 games. They are both really f***ing good at basketball. So a few people think Paul is better, and a few think Rose is better. And a couple of them might trade Rose for Paul. Who cares? Let it go. Talk about basketball, because I like reading that. I don't like reading people b**** about Rose v Paul. You really don't think that's a fair comparison, do you?
  6. QUOTE (High Mileage @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 06:34 PM) I'd be ecstatic to take two of three from Texas, but I've been a Royals fan too long (all my life) to get any further ahead than the next game... So what are your thoughts on Alex Gordon, HM? You think he has finally broken through? He hasn't been hitting many home runs, but he's doing just about everything else right now. Honestly I am happy for him. Seems like a nice kid and a very hard worker.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 05:16 PM) Well, that's an impressively precise OPS. Haha, I didn't catch this as I was sort of glossing over things in this thread...but that is hilarious. Definitely a .636-.637 OPS....no chance at .640!
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 12:39 PM) Not happening. No. I love answers like these. It really helps create more discussion.
  9. Does signing Mark to an extension help us retain Danks?
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 10:37 AM) Hopefully Anderson throws a perfect game for you. We would all hate to see your fantasy team do poorly. Especially since it's his big money league...
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 09:35 AM) Right, Hamilton should expose himself to injury because the coach made a mistake. Nope, sorry, can't agree with that. He still has the choice on how to slide. Agreed. I am pretty certain that if Ron Washington had a chance to have Hamilton be out by a wide margin or injured for 8 weeks, he would tell Hamilton to take the out every time.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 10:27 AM) Or if he's seriously hurt. I took it as sarcasm....
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 08:54 AM) Got to watch the replay and saw myself on TV, its been awhile. Funny thing when Pierre handed me the foul ball Sweeney hit, he immediately remembered I was the guy giving him s*** since the pregame. I then sold the ball for $20 bucks to some old man. Yeah, they haven't been taping the Jerry Springer show for a while now, have they?

    QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 09:51 AM) I was in Bruges last night, got completely wasted without really knowing I was getting that wasted and I remember just a few parts. The first was that I walked out of the pub and got lost, the second is that I fell in a construction ditch and now have scratches on my arm, and the last thing I remember was getting some fries. I thought it was atleast 2am, turns out this all happened by midnight. I was a messss. I hope you climbed up that clock tower or whatever the heck it is...
  15. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 07:32 AM) Acording to ESPN D Rose is 1 of only 3 players in the last 30 years to have 2000 points and 600 assists in a season, other 2 were LBJ last season and MJ in the early 90's. MJ averaged 8 APG and 32.5 PPG in 88-89
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 09:38 AM) Awww...
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 01:57 AM) Will you stop watching/following White Sox baseball for the next 5 years if we go deep into the playoffs or even win the WS? Winning the WS is obviously the ultimate. But I'd like to be good every year, or as often as possible. We're set up to win this year and possibly next. For some fans, that's enough. They don't care about 2013 or 2014. And that's fine. I think like a GM. Well, not KW, obviously. Oh come on now, J...this is beyond ridiculous...do you really take yourself that seriously?
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 08:02 AM) The sad part is that we get a walkoff homer and the thread is now 14 responses long. Yesterdays post game threads are now 75 and 142 posts long. Soxtalk really does love losing... Oh come on...you know it's not just Soxtalk...everyone loves to b****...
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 06:47 AM) The Washington Post writes an article on how ordinary people are dealing with the gas price hike. Yes, my au pair is from Switzerland and did the same to me...
  20. You do not want Teahen out there instead of Pierre.
  21. QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 09:36 AM) I am in no way disagreeing with what ozzie did after buehrle was pulled. If you agree giving people a shot to get some confidence is one thing... then i can't see how you feel it was the right decision to put him in there in a 1-0 game. Winning a game 1-0 is a accomplishment in itself. Generally it happens a handful of times at best... and that is including losing 1-0 also. Psychologically speaking, a 1-0 game seems more intense, more pressure, than lets say a 4-3 game. I may be wrong, but i personally feel different in the first scenario rather than the second... and i know i am not the only one is that regard. Seems to me like a pitcher would feel the same way... but once more i may be entirely wrong, but i don't think i am. Describe these trash innings? You mean when he gives 4-5-6+ runs? Everyone has these ''trash'' innings. So he has a s*** game, one or two great starts nullifies the bad... and that goes for mostly everyone. In the ten years of him starting his era has been above 4 only three times... only twice if you throw out (which you clearly can't) that 2006 aberration year. 2006 was the only year of a 4.5+ era... and as i said... it was nothing more than an abberation. In 2003 buehrle posted a 4.14 era... but his WAR was still a damn fine 4.4 wins. Last year he was at 4.28 and a WAR of 3.3 The three years prior to last year he put up 3.63, 3.79, and 3.84 era. Where does this 4.5+ era come from? In halladay's second year of starting he had a 10.64 era in 67.2 innings... which is a record for that amount of innings pitched. This is a two time cy young winner... and he just may be the best pitcher in all of baseball. One inning was not gonna be the deciding factor if that he has a good season or not ...in any shape or form... and i will stand by that. Buehrle is 32... it's not like we are talking about jamie moyer here... and even he had 2 complete games last year (buehrle had three). Essentially what i am saying is the sox are talking out of their ass... and buehrle will in no way be limited. He will get his 200+ barring injury as i have already stated. I don't see how that is limiting him one bit, but maybe that is just me. During ozzie guillen's tenure he has heavily relied on his starters... which is why the bullpen has literally been the least used during his tenure here. The sox starters also have the most ''quality starts'' which stems from the fact he let's them pitch, and let's them pitch deep into games. I agree as to the limitation on his innings. Buehrle wanted to finish what he started, but he's saying otherwise because he's not going to throw Ozzie under the bus. Ozzie has had Mark's back a ton of times, and Mark's going to have his manager's here. As for the 1-0 score, you are correct; it's certainly not the easiest of opportunities, but the A's were listless all night and Ozzie was probably thinking Matt could mow them down just as Mark had been. Unfortunately, it turns out Matt's fastball was probably just what the Dr ordered for the A's. I'm not sure a 1-0 chance in this situation would have been any harder than a 2 or 3 run lead though where the opposite team has been hitting well. Say a 7-5 game or whatever. But who knows. It turned out poorly.
  22. Matt will be fine. I'm not sure I want him closing, but as they say, the reports of his demise are greatly exaggerated. He's had spells like this before - and he'll have them again - but this is obviously a bit more glaring because it's happening at the beginning of the season. My guess is Buehrle would have liked to stay in but Oz was trying to get Matt some confidence with an easy save against a team that looked punchless all night. Unfortunately, it didn't work out. Let's not overreact though. Yes, the losses hurt. But Juan Pierre didn't forget how to catch and Matt's 96 mph fastball is not suddenly rendered ineffective. He's just going to need better location and to mix in a quality slider every now and again.
  23. Matsuzaka getting beat around again...seems like he might be a guy that could be acquired with a big chunk of his salary paid...wonder if the Coopster could do anything with him...he's making $10 million this year and $12 million next....I'll bet Boston would be willing to pay $15-16 million of that for a a warm body just to have him gone...
