QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 06:18 PM) wow is he stupid. 1.) the Japan league is a lot more advanced and is closer to AA/AAA minor league ball than any baseball in Latin America. 2.) Most players brought in from Japan are already in their 20's, more advanced as baseball players. Most of the players signed from Latin America are younger than 20, sometimes when they are only 16. 3.) The MLB cannot afford, nor should it, pay for a translator for every latin player, there's far too many. Plus, spanish is a language that is a lot easier to learn and the 2nd language of America. Someone from Japan is coming to a country where language and customs are completely different, they need more help. Plus, how many Japanese and Asian, players are in American Professional Baseball? I think he's talking about the korean prospects and lesser advanced Japanese players moreso than the advanced Japanese players that come over. Secondly, I think he does have a point. MLB has sought to advance globally, and perhaps is providing advantages to players from newer markets and overlooking those same services in age-old markets it already has. Thirdly, you would not have to assign one translator for each Latin player, but rather one for each team. I don't think that would be that difficult.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) The Sox made Edwin Jackson wait in a hotel room instead of coming to the ballpark till 3:00 ET while Kenny worked the phones. The Sox were clearly making efforts to move him. I agree with that, but I don't think there was ever a three-way deal actually discussed between Rizzo and KW before Kenny acquired him.

We have a decidedly easier August schedule than the Twins. We play Detroit 7 times, the Orioles 7 times, the Royals 3 times, the Indians 3 times, and the Twins 6 times. Meanwhile, Minnesota plays Tampa Bay 4 times, the Indians 3 times, the A's 3 times, the Angels 3 times, the Rangers 4 times, the Mariners 3 times, the Tigers 1 time, and us 6 times. We need to take care of our central division opponents so we can be in good shape heading into September, as they have the easier schedule that month...

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 03:55 PM) And i blame KW for not working out a three-way deal in advance of making the trade. I hate this deal with a passion. It would be different if we moved Hudson for a piece instead of a project. And throwing in Holmberg too? Overkill. Why do you assume so heavily that there ever was a three-way deal even talked about...I think that is more assumption from the media than reality...

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) I shouldn't have to, but sure, if it makes you guys feel better to be a broken record, then fine. Come on man, I'm not trying to pick on you...but when you call famous athletes nicknames that only you refer to them by, people are going to give you s***...it's just the way life works...

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 04:06 PM) How? It was a thread about Lillbridge kicking ass today, and that's what I call him. I would have called him the same thing during the game today after his 3-run triple had I been at my computer at the time. If using his nickname is "my schtick" then fine, I'll be using "my schtick" all year with Hot Fire, The Bridge, Q-uperman, G-Force, and any other nicknames I may start using this year. And that is your right. Just expect to catch s*** for it all year too.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 03:59 PM) It gets under my skin that every time I call a player a name anything other than their birth name 3-4 people comment "Such a dumb name" "stop calling him that" "give it up". Yeah, THAT gets under my skin because it's annoying. Don't like any of the nicknames i say? Great, sounds like it's pretty easy thing to ignore. I ignore every time I see the "Klutchsay" nickname. I think it's pretty dumb, but you know what, if it makes that person happy to say it, then that's fine, I don't need to start a fight. Umm, I can understand. But then you came in this thread with your THE BRIDGE schtick, so you have to expect to take some s*** for that.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 02:51 PM) Why should I care? I don't freak out about what other people want to call players, so why does everyone else have to? Call him Lent Brillibrige for all I care, and it won't get under my skin. Jeesh, take a joke buddy....it obviously does get under your skin...

Willie Harris just grounded out to first to Ross Gload, on a fastball from Jose Contreras in the 10th inning of the Phillies/Nats game...

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 08:43 PM) He very well could be a HOF caliber player if he stays in Colorado long-term He still doesn't hit for s*** on the road, guys. .262/.279/.385/.664

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 03:46 PM) FEAR THE BRIDGE! Admit it, self-appointed nickname guy, the Stealth Elf is exponentially better than The Bridge...

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 03:38 PM) That's fine and dandy but they still get to pitch in their park the rest of the way (half the time) and not on a neutral field. On June 1, they had given up 45 runs less than us....

Nice home stand boys. Let's go get those kitties now and end their season. -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) It wasn't just him. I've seen quite a few posts talk about how the Twins won't stick around because of their pitching (mainly starters). Yeah, they have the advantage on O, us with our arms...
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 03:20 PM) Yeah, counting the Twins or us out in the division right now is silly. I think it's basically a coin flip as to which of us make the playoffs as currently constructed. I like our team better, especially considering I think we'll add Manny in about 3 weeks...but they never go away...so it will be a battle.

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 02:17 PM) Why in the world did the Rays trade for Chad Qualls. He's terrible. They've had him before...they probably think they can get him back on the right track. -

This game makes me want to puke. Outside of the 5th, we've been disgustingly bad. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 02:09 PM) I think I meant three pitchers. I was hoping more or less that he'd save Putz in case Jenks doesn't have it. I wish he would save Bobby in case Putz and Sergio don't have it... -
Now that is nickname!
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 12:13 PM) I really hate seeing people count the Twins out. They are half a game back right now. They are a very serious threat to us. No one is counting the Twins out. He was responding to Greg's post basically counting us out.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 12:30 PM) What is the story behind the nickname, though? I assumed it meant Castro, but never saw it before. Wiki him.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 03:05 PM) Three pitching changes in one inning... Two pitching changes, three pitchers. 0 runs allowed.
