QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 08:59 AM) What if we could lock him up for an extension? Would you feel the same way? Konerko might not be back after this year and Dunn is still pretty young. Depends on what that extension is, honestly. That would make me feel better about it, but I don't want to give him some 3/$45 deal or anything.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 08:45 AM) Well, our top trading chip has to be in the rotation for the rest of the season, so not sure we have the bullets. I really, really hope that Hudson being forced into the rotation saves us from ourselves with Hudson. That being said, it could cost us Viciedo ultimately. I really want no part of trying to get Adam Dunn.

Well, if this gets done, it's good news for the White Sox.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 08:04 AM) Beasley traded and Mike MIller signed 5 years 30M. I love it. Stop rubbing it in already... On a serious note, I have to give the three guys props for realizing they need more than just themselves. That impressed me quite a bit.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 12:01 AM) WAY too early for this. It's just impossible to say, things can change drastically over the course of even a week. Agreed. I'm still trying to decide how I want them to look this weekend...

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 06:27 AM) I'd bet my paycheck right now that the Twins will get Ted Lilly from the Cubs. Cliff Lee will go to the Yanks. I wouldn't be shocked if we ended up getting Ted Lilly actually....Kenny has been on him for about 7 years now...

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 07:35 AM) I am now a bigger Lakers fan than ever. You were a Lakers fan before?

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 12:02 AM) what does l2ms mean? Not that this matters now, but it does not mean LeBron to Miami soon. It's something Wade has said several times now, it means laughing to myself. Sorry, that was bugging me.

I gotta admit, I wish LeBron, Chris, and Dwayne would invite me to their party this weekend...

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 11:00 PM) Here is the Cav fan board reaction to Dan Gilbert letter: http://www.cavfanatic.com/go/thread/view/3...m_Dan_Gilbert... Notice how in Cavs darkest hour hes actually giving them something to be hopeful about. It was a brilliant move. It would have been way different if Lebron had class and notified Gilbert first. I think the Cavs at least deserved a phone call from Lebron himself saying "Im not coming back". Only a coward only calls the team hes going to. That was just bulls***. I think tonight it is a brilliant move. I think for the next 10 years it proves to show incredibly poor judgment. Especially when LeBron is flashing his rings on tv over the next few years and the Cavs still have nothing.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:56 PM) this is a great point....jordan was unbelievably savvy and smart and knew how to play the media....also the media is a completely different animal today and cant be controlled quite like it was in previous years LeBron's PR man is Maverick f***ing Carter. This is one of the reason's LeBron is getting hammered from all sides right now. Stupid.

The more I hear Chris Bosh talk, the more I respect him. He comes off as the most intelligent of the three, if you ask me.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:42 PM) What Lebron did was classless. Most professionals give their employer notice. They dont parade around on tv and then leave them. He could have left as a free agent with class, but he didnt choose that route. He chose to take this all to another level, a level that goes beyond what anyone in a "profession" would ever consider. So I think Gilbert was right on the money. It was Lebron's world, but now hes beholden to Miami and Gilbert doesnt have to bite his tongue or worry about what Lebron thinks, because who cares? Who cares if Lebron doesnt like Gilbert, how will that ever hurt him? Maybe in 6 years Lebron would have come back? Gilbert is not a guy used to failing, hes acting exactly how I expected Lebron to act. You dont run from a challenge, you break it down. Not everyone can be the best, but thats what the best do. I'm not defending LeBron. I'm saying as an adult, and a wealthy owner of an NBA franchise, the guy should probably exhibit a little more tact, class, and foresight than to release that letter when he is clearly in a state of anger and is very emotional. I believe the phrase is "let cooler heads prevail."

Van Pelt laughing at Gilbert, calling him a "gypsy." Hilarious.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:36 PM) Wait what, people dont believe that is Dan Gilberts letter? The guy has given Lebron everything over the last 6 years and this is how Lebron treats him? Tells him on national television, not even the damn respect to treat the franchise that would have done anything for him (and probably has) at the beginning of free agency he is bolting. Gilbert owns a franchise that is on the brink, if you are a Cavs fan this at least has to give you some hope that the team isnt going to sit there and cry about how Lebron broke there heart. But instead will do whatever they can to try and stick Lebron. He can say whatever he wants to people privately, but that letter was pretty classless. You have to be the bigger person, especially when you give millions of dollars to kids in their twenties. You have to expect this sort of behavior from them.

QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:32 PM) I agree with that. Weird use of quotation marks as well.... One tip-off to me was the double-negative "nor never." Seems like that would have got caught by someone...

QUOTE (RME JICO @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:30 PM) Winshares had the trio at 41.1 wins for last season. That means the remaining roster has to make up 30+ wins, no way. Since the regular season is a complete joke, they will get 60 wins, but 72, I doubt it. Wade and Bosh would have to stay healthy and play in at least 80 to do that, and I doubt that happens. They will definitely be a top 3 team in the East, but I don't see them ever achieving 70+ wins. Oh bulls***. Winshares Sminshares. The problem with statistics like that is they have no ability to measure the cumulative effect of the three playing together. They are also going to make the other guys around them several times better. Barring injury, that team will win 65 games pretty easily. If those old farts on the Celtics can do it, I'm pretty certain these guys can do it much, much better.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:27 PM) You guys gotta read this. Dan Gilbert is pissed. http://www.nba.com/cavaliers/news/gilbert_letter_100708.html That is incredibly pathetic and unprofessional in my opinion. So much, in fact, that I have a hard time believing it is authentic.
-
Yeah, it's also easy to say that now. I can admit I would probably have been on here saying that we should respect the guy for choosing winning above all else... I love what Stu Scott said his friend just texted him..."Did Michael Jordan join the Pistons? No. He stayed with the Bulls til he beat them."
-
One thing that bothers me about all the LeBron bashing is this... Who among us would be ripping on LeBron if the three had them had chosen the Bulls instead to pull this off with? I can only imagine the ingenuity that would be on display in defense of LeBron, had that been the case...
-
QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 09:14 PM) Say WHAT? You would respect him more if he chose a crappy franchise where he won't win but will be in the limelight over a franchise where he will win but have less endorsement money? Very odd. I think people would respect his decision to go somewhere to build his own legacy, the way he wants to. Not that that is the correct basketball decision or career decision, but it shows more stones than pairing up with his all-star buddies from the Olympic team.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 09:13 PM) Yep, i think this is the future of the NBA. This is going to keep happening until somebody puts a stop to it. There are only so many guys to go around to accept the minimum salary though...

Does anyone think some other group of players will try and unite to form another Superteam? I would watch out for Jay-Z putting something together with those Nets in the next 1-2 years...

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:03 PM) is he on ESPN? ESPN is going to spin this anyway they can, they have a huge contract with the NBA and need this to work out Yeah, he and Van Gundy were just interviewed by Van Pelt. Jackson clearly has still not gotten over getting his butt whipped by Jordan and Co: throughout the entire 90's.
