  1. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 02:30 PM) I remember people making the argument that TCQ would be fine defensively in RF because he's somehow a better RF than LF, even though that went against all semblance of logic. I was hoping they'd be right at the time, but it just doesn't work that way (unless he was somehow actually worse when he played LF, which I highly doubt). As for the second half, I think we're going to win this division. If we acquire a big bat (and if I were a betting man, i'd put money on us doing so), we might win it by a noteable margin. And the fact I'm thinking that way really scares me. Well, there is no point in talking about it anymore since Q is entering his prime and unless you want to DH him (an idea many are not comfortable with), he's going to be our right fielder for another 3-4 years most likely. It's just something we're going to have to live with. Is there actually anything on the record as to what Quentin has said in regards to the possibility of him DHing rather than playing right field? I think chw42 pointed it out in the game thread yesterday. We can have one of the best defensive configurations in the OF in all of baseball by simply inserting Jones in right and playing Q at DH. Given our current DH options, unless Lillibridge continues to hit like a man possessed and somehow justifies taking over the DH spot, I'm not sure how much having Jones in RF and Q at DH hurts us offensively. And I've got to think it increases our chances defensively quite significantly.
  2. I live in Las Vegas, and so I have the Extra Innings package, and so I get to watch a lot of different broadcast teams. Sometimes I want to watch our broadcast; sometimes I can't; sometimes I don't want to. But I will say this much...I would rather listen to the guys that openly root for their team than the ones that sort of do, but try and hide it in the interests of professionalism. Because when that big moment does come for their team, they are usually unable to hide it, turn into this rampant homer, and that's when it gets really, really annoying.
  3. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:23 AM) I could have swore I read somewhere the other day that Oswalt would deny trades to the White Sox or Tigers. Uhh....keep reading...
  4. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 04:02 PM) I like the Korver pickup and the contract. Kind of indifferent to Redick, if they don't match I'll be pleased because I think he would be a good fit, but if they do match I'm not gonna lose sleep over it. Redick isn't really a defensive liability, the guy works his ass off on D and is actually pretty respectable. Also, the Bulls have been in negotiations with Ronnie Brewer which would be perfect for the big/defensive/finishing 2. It was a tough pill to swallow being a Saluki alum, but I will have to be a team player and put my past grudges away...
  5. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 04:55 PM) The Brewers most pressing need is most definitely pitching, they won't be winning anything until they revamp that rotation and bullpen. Dealing Fielder would certainly be the best way to load up and I just can't see how we can afford to deal away any of our 3 good/high touting young starters especially with Peavy set to miss the rest of the season. You're absolutely right, which is why my fantasy is just that - a fantasy. But I do sleep comfortably knowing Kenny is having the same fantasy and will do everything within his power to figure something out.
  6. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 05:45 PM) Sox starters over last 8 games..... 49 1/3 IP, 36 H, 10 ER, 12 BB, 29 K, 1.82 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 2.42 K/BB Sox are 8-0 over that stretch. Just as impressive as that ERA is (especially when considering that Hudson nearly doubled it today) is that number of hits...36 hits over almost 50 innings is insane.
  7. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 05:40 PM) I am really nervous to figure out the numbers on the starting pitchers stats when I factor in what Hudson did today..... The good thing is I promise you it will not change the fact that we are currently in first place...
  8. QUOTE (Real @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 04:32 PM) I have a huge feeling that we're getting Fielder It's definitely something that Kenny will talk to them about. My guess is there are a few things that Kenny would have to insist on the Brewers accepting though in order to make it happen. I think he would insist on them taking Linebrink back to lessen the $ hit we would be taking for this and next year. That being said, the very reason the Brewers would be open to dealing Fielder is to ditch his contract and to use the pieces they got back to reload. So we would have to be sending back some good pieces. As another poster mentioned, the Brewers are not necessarily looking for a catcher though so I'm not sure we have the pieces necessary considering our two best pieces are Hudson and Flowers. The only solution I can think of would be something along the lines of Linebrink/Viciedo/Danks2/Mitchell/another spect, or maybe Linebrink/Flowers/Viciedo/Danks2 or Linebrink/Hudson/Viciedo/Danks2 for Parra/Fielder and then we try to get Parra turned around somehow. However, this is probably just a pipedream but I do think it is absolutely a 100% chance that Kenny is talking to them about Fielder.
  9. I honestly wish they would have picked Youk for selfish reasons. I'd rather have Paulie get the rest and I don't want him giving our juju to anyone else while he is there.
  10. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) Really cant make any significant changes without f***ing up the flow of the game. You add another ref then you might have inconsistent calls on fouls which isnt fair. Instant replay cant work either. Maybe a goal line judge or some type of goal line technology. Can't you just penalize diving with game suspensions via replay after the games? Hand enough of those out and I would think a lot of guys would hesistate to do it, knowing it will be reviewed on video after the game...
  11. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 03:39 PM) This pitching change makes absolutely no sense. When you've given up 15 runs, it's pretty clear that none of your pitching changes have made much sense...
  12. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) Ramon Castro pinch hitting for Q. Damnit. Always good to see therapist make an appearance, however.
  13. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) Ramon Castro pinch hitting for Q. Damnit. I think Q's odds are still pretty strong...
  14. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 02:27 PM) So... if Beckham or Lillibridge got hurt on a play in the next two innings... who would finish the game at their position? TCQ
  15. QUOTE (qwerty @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) Can we filter out that nickname guys? Any admins or mods reading this? He refuses to listen. Wait til you stumble across his names for Lillibridge and Hudson...
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 01:57 PM) That's only after 2002 though, where his legs were pretty much done. Griffey was a great CF in his prime, at least Total Zone says so. The problem is he refused to leave CF when he was no longer capable of playing it anymore.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 02:05 PM) So, is Quentin an acceptable named for a white kid? It's probably pretty popular actually...I think you should go with THE Carlos Quentin as his first name...
  18. QUOTE (qwerty @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 02:40 PM) I doubt he is in the league in a couple seasons. His minor league numbers suggest such. Very mediocre minor league career. I see him being a flash in the pan. Or a late bloomer. Slugged over .500 in AA last year and close to .600 in about half that many abs this year. I always defer to your statistical knowledge Qwerty, but I've seen enough of this kid to think that the light's either gone on all the sudden or he made some sort of adjustment which took him from no one to legitimate ROY candidate.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 02:37 PM) Boesch hits a lot of fly balls and ground balls, not so many line drives. His batted ball slash is 16.5/40/40, or something close to that. The fact that he has a .390 BABIP while hitting 80% of his hits in the air or on the ground doesn't make much sense. You're not going to get away with that much luck. He won't hit .340, but I don't even know if he's going to hit .300. Yeah, that's a bit odd, to hit for that high of an average without a lot of line drives. He must be hitting the ball very hard is all I can say. You don't slug .600 without hitting a lot of ground ball doubles, or a lot of deep gappers and home runs.
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 02:26 PM) Detroit has even worse pitching and they have two flukes waiting to tank in Boesch and Jackson. I agree Boesch isn't going to hit .340 but the guy is for real in my opinion. We're going on 240 ABs here and he really hasn't had any prolonged slumps. The ball jumps off his bat and he's going to be surrounded by some pretty solid hitters. I expect his BA to fade a bit, but not so much his power numbers.
  21. Really nice to see Alex get his stroke back after a tough few weeks recently. That, along with Quentin just absolutely mashing, makes me feel a LOT better about this offense going forward.
  22. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 12:34 PM) 1st and 3rd! I'm not watching, but this implies AJ got a hit!?!
  23. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 12:23 PM) Heyman reports the Sox tried for Lee, said no when Seattle wanted Gordon. DFH: KK Leave it to Kenny...makes sense though given that they did get Smoak from the Rangers, who was taken shortly after Gordo in that same draft.
  24. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 10:27 AM) Sorry to correct you here but he actually said they were playing the best AGAINST their AL Central opponents, and was saying the Tigers & White Sox need to improve their play within the division if they are going to win it. But yes, generally I agree these morons say some pretty stupid things sometimes... Hah, talk about your all-time backfires...
