  1. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 09:07 AM) I still don't get this one. Hanging drawers? I think he means drawers as another word for pants/trousers?
  2. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 09:04 AM) Give me a freaking break people. Suggesting mailing it in, in May, is ridiculous is NOT the same thing as saying I thought we'd go on an insane 24-5 run. THAT's crap logic. The point is that bailing less than 2 months into the season is ridiculous. Period. Don't work so hard to justify it. It rings hollow. I've got to agree with you here. I specifically remember some thread where the majority of posters were actually claiming that after 42 games or so, at 7.5 games back of the Twins, we were already incapble of making that ground up over the remaining 120 games. Now obviously no one can claim that they foresaw this sort of run happening, but the Twins' stumbling made us getting back into this very possible without playing .800 % ball for a month. Just going 18-12 would have gotten us back into this thing. What some of us were arguing is that over the course of 120 games, a LOT of different scenarios could occur which could lead to us being in a competitve position before the end of July or August, making it absolutely pointless to start dumping players before the end of May or June.
  3. Buster's twitter Hmm, interesting...
  4. This one would just be gravy as far as I am concerned...let's make it 25-5 and 8 in a row!
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 07:49 AM) via MLB Traderumors: Yeah, I saw that too...Rizzo is either going to pull a Jim Bowden to the extreme (remember when he insisted on pulling in a huge take for Soriano and ended up not being able to deal him), or else he is very serious about keeping Dunn. Oh well, I guess we can cross him off the list. BTW, did you mean to post this in the Adam Dunn thread, Sqwert?
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 10, 2010 -> 10:40 PM) Hawk isn't getting older, he's getting better. He's like a fine wine...
  7. QUOTE (Felix @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 02:08 AM) http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/fantasy/...home-run-derby/ Props to qwerty for his initial post. Ahh, I guess that makes sense. Guys that participate in the Derby are ones that many times have played over their heads in the first half, so then of course they are likely to come back to earth a bit as the sample size increases. I guess I can buy that.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 12:42 AM) Some people take sports too seriously. I want to see Paulie in the all star contest, cause the contest exists and I want to see him hit in it. Who gives a f*** if there's some hex? The article said otherwise. Enjoy life! Dont worry. Be f***ing happy people! Oh interesting, I was not aware of that. If someone has a link to that article, I would love to see it.
  9. I just hope he doesn't do the home run contest now too...
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 10, 2010 -> 05:47 PM) How come Juan never gets a day off? Everybody else does. Juan and Omar have no pop in their bats. He's one of those guys that plays just about every inning of every game. He consistently is right up there every year in games played.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 10, 2010 -> 04:25 PM) Twins just made it official, Morneau heading to Minnesota for treatment. I was watching that game Wednesday night and saw the play in which he was allegedly knocked a bit loopy. He must have a bit of an issue from his hockey playing days because it certainly did not appear to be a big collision.
  12. QUOTE (qwerty @ Jul 10, 2010 -> 03:40 PM) I just don't get it. Green is what you are supposed to use when implying sarcasm... highly sarcastic even. When green is not used for something ''sarcastic'' or a ''joke'' people get made fun of like they are fools because they do not follow the lead. What he said was green, hence making it fair game, whether he intended otherwise or not. No other way to interrupt it. No one in there right mind would insult flasoxx... as the general consensus is he is the best poster to grace these boards. No one (sure might be a couple crazy people) dislikes flasoxx, you are just grasping for straws. f***ed if you do, f***ed if you don't. Actually, Knightni was willing to let this slide. I am the one who took exception to it, and I'll explain why, since the original message was apparently not enough. First of all, between the crazy turnaround of our season and the 23-5 run since the beginning of June, everyone has been in a great mood for the most part around here and so the mods/admins have tried to let people enjoy themselves after the depressing April and May start to the season. However, things have gone a bit too far as of late, especially during the recent "Summer of LeBron" and the failure of the Bulls to secure one of the top 3 free agents. It became clear that we needed to reign things in a bit around here in order to maintain a respectful order and continue the high quality of discussion that Soxtalk.com prides itself on. The mods/admins discussed the matter, and some individuals were suspended. A message was posted in this thread as a friendly warning and to put posters on notice that the standards of the forum would be enforced. Flaxx's response was in good humor and was a nice way of lightening the mood a bit. Milk's response, while clearly intended to be sarcasm, as well as humorous, was inappropriate in the context of the message Mike had just posted and myself, as well as others, felt it should be responded to. Knight took it upon himself to offer Milk a friendly warning that his post was inappropriate. One final, but important note. While the use of sarcasm or parody is appreciated and accepted on this forum, and the use of a green font is the universally accepted manner of expressing obvious sarcasm on Soxtalk, this does not serve as some all-encompassing exception or shield in which to insulate or exempt one from the general rules of this forum. One may not use the green font to express otherwise unacceptable ideas or thoughts and hide behind the idea of sarcasm to escape warnings or punishment. We are not trying restrict expression, but it is absolutely necessary to maintain some rules or general guidelines of reasonable decorum and some semblance of respect and order so that Soxtalk may be best enjoyed by the broadest possible audience. Thanks
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 10, 2010 -> 02:57 PM) I hope Ely enjoyed this time up in the majors...he'll be back in AAA shortly. Yeah, he looks brutal.

    Films Thread

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 10, 2010 -> 02:50 PM) honestly one of the worst films I ever saw. On that note, I watched Men Who Stare at Goats the other night. Outside of the part where they crash into the stone in the desert, I thought it was incredibly stupid.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 10, 2010 -> 03:47 PM) Nick Markakis is a young, under contract, very good player that a team can build around. Oswalt is over 30 years old, and is already making 16 million next year and he wont get cheaper after his contract runs out next year, plus he wants to pitch for a contender. It makes much more sense for the Astros to get rid of Oswalt than it does for the Orioles to get rid of Markakis. And in the Peter Angelos is a bit of a weirdo section, Markakis also happens to be Greek, making him one of Angelos' favorite players.
  16. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 10, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) Don't personally sign off on someone voicing their opinion about something Mr. Moderator God. Nothing personal iamshack, but you come off as someone who enjoys being a moderator a LOT. The poster was just saying his preference - his opinion. Maybe you didn't like that he didn't explain his/her self - so what. There is no rule to prohibits short posts. Rant over =) Yeah, maybe sometimes I do. And I know it has been irking some of you guys lately, and I apologize for that. But I am the moderator, right? Part of what I'm trying to do is not only enforce the rules around here, but to get the most out of you guys so that this is not only the best White Sox forum on the internet, but one of the best baseball forums on the internet. chw42 is an awesome poster, and if he is going to take the time to chime in, I'd like him to explain his opinions. Additionally, I feel like if you're going to shoot down someone else's opinion or suggestion, you should at least take the time to explain your reasoning. Just my opinion. Sorry if that came off a bit harshly.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 10, 2010 -> 12:21 PM) I finally saw Zombieland. Outstanding. I heard they are going to make a sequel? Didn't you wish it was longer though?
  18. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 10, 2010 -> 01:15 PM) No one is gonna get him for a s***ty C or B prospect. But they aren't going to get a Hudson, Flowers, or Viciedo for him from any team. No team is stupid enough to give that up for a rental player. And if that is the Astros asking price... well, you could see why they are one of the most f***ed organizations in baseball right now whose cornerstones on their team are past their prime and a weak farm system that isn't much better than ours. I think it may be worse than ours. But you have to treat some players respectfully, as well as be understanding of your fan base. It would be similar to us trading Pauly last year for some random crappy prospect. Right baseball move? Maybe. But sometimes you have to sacrifice the best baseball decision out of respect for a guy who has given his career to you and to appease the fanbase.
  19. Well, I respectfully disagree. The guy has been one of the pillars of their franchise. They are not going to trade him for some crappy B-level prospect unless he himself asks to be traded to a contender and they accomodate him.
  20. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 10, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) With Berkman given his age and contract he prob could be had for a guy like Morel or Danks2 or both. Except for that people keep ignoring the fact that the Astros owner has said publicly he will eat more cash on trades in order to acquire better prospects. He has finally realized they have to pay the piper and get some good young talent in their system...
  21. I don't really even think it matters anymore...our system is so thin right now the answers to all these types of questions are going to be "Flowers and Viciedo."
  22. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 10, 2010 -> 12:14 PM) It was the other way around. Oh you're right...he started out huge in his first half season with them...so he's sucked for a while now....hmmm...
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 10, 2010 -> 11:09 AM) Fair enough. Patterson's never been able to get on base his entire career. He's hot right now, but that's not going to last (not only because of his high BABIP, but also because of his nearly unsustainable LD%), we've seen this kind of stuff from him before. He's still a decent fielder, but his baseball IQ is down there with Scott Podsednik's. We don't need another low OBP guy who can't think fast enough on the baseball field. As for Ibanez, I said semi-maybe because he would fit well in this ball park. He's having a crappy year so far, but he's projected to hit with a .360 wOBA for the rest of the year, which is very useful to this team. Plus, if you get rid of Linebrink's contract for a useful player, that would definitely be something to look at. Ibanez can't field anymore either, so he's pretty much just a DH. Thanks! You're also one of the best at explaining your reasoning, so it's double appreciated. Didn't Ibanez have a bad first few months last year too before bouncing back and having a huge second half?
