QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 11:39 PM) I wonder if he has to pay for his own hotel room. Not to be a dick, but he's not needed on road trips. The dude makes like $15,000,000.00 a year. Do you realize that is $41,000 a DAY? I doubt they are too concerned about his hotel room.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) Yikes... I need some lottery tickets. Hey, why don't you quit patting yourself on the back long enough not to derail the thread, eh?

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 10:10 PM) so this girl who i had a fling with (i was the one who was more into it than her - suck - and we broke it off) anyway - we still hang out and we're trying to do the friends thing cuz she's cool and well connected (i mean what?) but I realized this evening that she's a GREAT wingman. we were both called back for the same show - both actors - and we're there all evening. I'm reading for the role opposite of her, and the fact that we know each other brings really great chemistry to it. I ALSO read with this other girl, really cute, but so my time was spent being pulled between both of them, trying to practice with each of them equally while waiting to go in. I was flirting with this new girl and casually added that there was history between me and girl A, who kept coming over to pry me away from her. Long story short, I ended up getting the new girl's number. Now girl A had no clue she was being a wingman, but the end result was the same - so it leads me to ask... Do you think women can be good wingmen? I'm of the opinion that they're the best kind of wingman - but I'm curious what other people think. A woman is attracted to a guy another woman is seemingly attracted to. It makes her think, hmm, there must be something to this guy, because that girl is obviously interested in him for some reason. It's the same as when you see a girl, and she might just seem so-so, but then you see some good-looking dudes interested in her, and you think, hmm, she must be really good at _____ or else why would those dudes be hitting on her? It's quite the phenomenon. Edit: one of the reasons wearing a wedding ring can work as a great prop...

QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 08:37 PM) i also disagree with kenny giving up lamar hoyt for ozzie Haha....I think LaMarr was more interested in some of the things we have been discussing in the Summer TV thread than in baseball around the fall of 1984...the KW joke notwithstanding...

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 07:45 PM) I generally agree that the goverment tries to get it's hands on too many things that they shouldn't. I'm torn on this one. It's not in the country's best interst to have a fat lazy population and the healthcare costs will increase for everyone in any plan. While it does keep me in business, it seems that at times the American public needs to be told to be not so stupid. It's exactly the opposite. The American public has been mislead by the government and has been eating on the government's tab since the Nixon administration, which is part of the reason the rate of chronic disease is so high with all populations eating the "Western Diet."

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 08:33 PM) When will you get the point that it's not the government's f***ing place to tell us this kind of crap? While not a government official, Michelle My Belle is hypocritical as hell. Do I think it's a good idea? Sure. But AGAIN it's not the government's place to do this. The government has been doing this for the last 50 years, Kap, between the "food pyramid," the FDA standards, the subsidizing of certain crops such as wheat and corn (and certain strains of those crops), and all the BS studies they pay for and the nonsensical recommendations that come from those.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 08:10 PM) I don't get why Cecil Fielder got to sing the National Anthem. Those women are honestly some of the best singers though.

I am still laid-up. Going to try and get to a chiropractor or acupuncturist or something on Friday. Somehow, I am aggravating something I tweaked doing those damn Steam Engines in my sleep. If I sleep more than 3 hours or so, I wake up with this debilitating back and neck pain and can barely get out of bed. Don't know what the hell I am doing.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 05:40 PM) I'm more adverse to sticking needles in my body to be honest. Thats really what probably stopped me when I was younger. From doing heroin?!? Rock, didn't you grow up in the DG or something? I am totally fascinated by cocaine and heroin, I'll be honest. But I have an addictive personality and I know I'd be in the gutter and then dead in short order if I ever tried it.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 05:37 PM) Well thats depressing, here I was thinking it was in Chicago and would be fun to go too. Oh, no worries. Purdue is not far. Rent a decent hotel for a weekend where they play a decent Big Ten rival or Notre Dame and head down there on a Friday night. Make a weekend of it. It's a great time, especially in late Sept or early Oct when the weather is nice. Definitely something to change it up for a weekend.

QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 04:26 PM) Trust me we discussed that. I tried all the angles but the fiancé wasn't buying it. Course she didn't want me to find u in Vegas either. Ahh, see...perhaps you should have devoted some pro bono time to this young lady...then you could have invoked attorney-client privilege....

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 08:10 AM) So, I need to find a new show to get sucked into (drama preferably). Anyone have any suggestions? The guidelines: (1) my fiance and I moved recently and decided to do away with cable. So we're limited to Netflix and the interwebs. (2) to get a feel for my taste in shows, my recent favorites include: Breaking Bad, Lost, Mad Men, Deadwood, The Wire, Sopranos, etc. Anyone every watch Battlestar Galactica? Normally i'm not an outer space kind of guy, but lots of people associate it with Lost, so I'm willing to give it a shot. I tried to get into Dexter and Californication, but can't seem to stay interested. I'm hoping there's a cool series out there that I missed within the last few years. Recently got into Mad Men after hearing too many good things to ignore. Bought Season 1 and 2 at Best Buy on sale for $20 each. Watched both seasons in under a week and am now awaiting Season 3 to arrive from ebay. It's going to be 112 here this weekend, so that's probably what I'll be doing. Can't say enough about the show! Will probably let Season 4 build up on the TiVo along with True Blood while I start Breaking Bad! Really fired up! As for new dramas, I've heard good things about that Nurse Jackie or whatever with Edie Falco. Anyone seen that yet?

QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 03:04 PM) I always have a good time at Harry's especially during the breakfast club when the girls wear towels to the bar. Oh now that is a fun time.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 06:55 AM) Whole Paycheck? LOL Actually it really is great stuff. I remember saying a few years ago, food SOURCE will continue to grow in importance to more people, and will eventually be right up there with calorie and fat counting in people's minds. As it should be. We try to get as much organic as we can, especially for our kid, but we're by no means perfect. And its pricier to do it that way, unfortunately. Yeah, it's pretty expensive, and half the stuff I haven't seen since I was a little kid or have never heard of at all. But I think it's probably worth it in the long run. We are spoiled because our food in this country is so cheap; but it's also not as good as the food our parents and our grandparents were able to buy. Because of the way our huge-scale farms have degraded the soil and focused only on the highest yielding strains of crops, we're basically eating produce that is on average, 1/4-1/2 as nutritious as the same produce was 50 years ago. So evidently, while non-organic stuff is much cheaper, it's also much less nutritious. I have come to the conclusion that I'd rather pay more for the food I eat now and hopefully avoid some of the health issues I have down the road.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) We started doing a CSA this year. Here's one that has drop offs in Vegas: http://www.localharvest.org/csa/M25638 Awesome, Sqwert, thanks. I didn't even think they'd have them here because we are in the middle of the desert, obviously. I'll look into that!

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 08:25 PM) If yall want to know about some cool bars in Knoxville or Memphis, I can contribute. Otherwise, I've got nothing since the majority of you are Chicago people. What's the bar in downtown Memphis that has a bajillion beers on tap? That place was outstanding.

So this thread inspired me to finally read In Defense of Food, and it scared the s*** out of me. So today was my first time shopping at Whole Foods Market. It was as if I had never been grocery shopping before. I dunno how I feel...

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 07:09 PM) Hawk is pretty bad. He seems to let his Shtick get in the way of broadcasting games. Recently he's been getting on my nerves a lot. For me, i'd say the best in the biz is Vin Scully, followed by Grace and Sutton for the D-Backs. The Rangers broadcasters are pretty good too. Josh Lewin actually started with the Cubs I believe...he is good, as is Tom Grieve. Lewin is kind of a dork, but he is very knowledgeable in terms of what is going on around baseball. I don't have to cringe when I hear him talk about our players or other team's players, because he almost always gets it right.
