I'm going to go on record with Kelly Johnson and a lefty reliever or bust.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 05:31 PM) Reinsdorf needs to stick to baseball. lol@better than the Heat with Lebron. Would you rather he said "Well, we are resigned to our fate as irrelevant losers now...Hopefully I will still be alive in 2016."

Hmm, sounds like the same guy who writes Ozzie's letters!

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 05:07 PM) What he was saying today was exactly what I had been thinking the past few days. I will never understand it if he goes to Miami. I think that is the mistake that you guys are making....thinking that LeBron is as sophisticated in making this decision as he is. There have been reports that some of the requests and questions he and his team of decision-makers have asked were ridiculous. I just think their egos are so big that they think no matter what they do, it will be the right decision.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) Wow, to show how bad the Sox were before this, we're only like a +10 on run differential right now. Equally amazing that we've won 22/27 while scoring only 4.7 runs a game ourselves. Crazy.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) How much longer until he announces? Was it 6 eastern or 9 Eastern? I've been in a long meeting and working on a report the last 2 hours. You didn't hear??? He chose the Atlanta Hawks! 6 Pacific

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 05:22 PM) God it's painful to hear D.Rose talk. Nice hat though. Yeah, I dunno who sounds worse...he or Landon Donovan...

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 04:20 PM) doc and rock, please don't fight! You're the two best sources of inside info on here! And I love you both

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) Not really going out on a limb there since Peavy is out for the year. No, I would have said the same thing prior to Tuesday night.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 04:51 PM) Not a chance in hell for me, Peavy's health was always a huge concern with his contract. Yeah, I'll take Clayton Richard, Dexter Carter, the two other arms, and the $ back... Again, not saying that Kenny should have known better...because I loved this deal when it was made. Just saying that knowing what I know now....I would undo the trade.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) Peavy was pitching like the ace he was and is in June. No denying that. The fact that you are using 2 months when Peavy was in a slump to pretty much discredit him is silly. Oh. Ok. You're right.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) How many other NBA owners have season tickets to another teams games? Lets be realistic here, Jay-Z is a pretty visible face of the Nets. Hes not buying season tickets to another team in his conference. Its not about the money, its about being an owner of 1 team and supporting a competitor. It would have been like Jay-Z going out and publicly buying albums made by Death Row. He's a very small minority owner. It's not like he is Jerry Reinsdorf buying tickets to see the Brewers or something.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 04:20 PM) He hasnt even pitched a whole season, what player would be worth the money when they are injured? He contributed dominant performances during our hot streak, just like the rest of the pitching staff that underperformed when Peavy did. He wasn't worth the $400k a start he was making when he was pitching. I want to like the guy as much as anyone, but from what I have seen, he's a product of an inferior league and Petco Park. Is he still a good pitcher, yes. Is he the ace I expected him to be in the 20 starts he has made for us? No. You can defend him all you want, Rock, and that's your opinion and your right. But with all due respect, in my opinion, he has been extremely underwhelming to me. I felt pretty similarly this year when Freddy was taking the mound for us as when Jake was.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 03:19 PM) Yeah I can see Jay-z feeling that buying $40k of season tickets to make $10k is worth the investment and time? Come on. He probably bought them for the exact reason you point out - it's nothing to him just to buy them himself so he has them whenever he chooses. $40k is probably easier for him to drop than the phone call he makes to get the tickets from someone else. The rest he can give away to his pals.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 01:10 PM) Peavy was awful for the first couple of months, but returned to being dominant in June. You can't just look at his entire season record and say "no big loss". Most of the pitchers on this staff are garbage if you're going by that metric, and we should be glad Quentin's been out of the lineup. Peavy dominated the likes of Cleveland, the Cubs twice, Washington and the Royals. Yeah, the guy is a good pitcher and we're better with him healthy than injured. Has he lived up to his billing? No. Has he been worth the money? No. Has he been worth the players we gave up? Hard to tell. Would I undo this trade if I could? You're damn right I would. Now that doesn't mean I fault Kenny for making the trade, and I certainly understand no one could have predicted this (well, some actually did), but considering what Peavy has contributed thus far this season, I don't think there will be a big drop off when Hudson steps in. Gotta side with Doc and VL on this one.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 03:05 PM) LeBron would not be the first one blamed in Miami. Thats Wade County and Pat Riley put the team together. Any of the other 3 teams and LeBron is first to get blamed. Thats the whole point, if they win championship(s) in Miami they are doing something Wade has already done with other players. Its Wades team. It almost seems impossible to me LeBron would put himself in a position like that. I think that is what people are going to theorize, but in reality, LeBron is numero uno on that team. When the Bulls swept the Heat a few years ago, it was hardly a big story. Wade was criticized, but not much. When LeBron's teams have lost, he has been much, much more scrutinized and taken much more criticism. I think Wade will be the leader of that team because he is the oldest of the three, but the buck is going to stop with LeBron, and anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves.

Yeah, 22 of their last 27 and the first 4-game sweep of the Angels at home since 1983.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 01:48 PM) I agree with their point that he's taking the easy way out if he goes to Miami. Although I don't mean that as a i'm mad he's not coming to Chicago point, or think he's a wimp not going to New York point, I mean it more as a general point. He is taking the easy way out. But I doubt if they lose that that the blame will go on Riley or Wade or Bosh. If they lose, LeBron will be the first one blamed. Secondly, simply because you don't want to play or live in New York f***ing City does not mean you are afraid of anything. I hate when they say that s***.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 01:43 PM) D'Antoni concedes defeat. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketba...eaded_to_m.html Bobcats apparently very interested in Beasley. Hah...as much as Chicagoans can be meatheads, New Yorkers can be such assholes.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 02:32 PM) I still think it comes down to more obvious factors, like wanting to play with friends. I agree. I honestly think the Bulls presentation was probably a bit "too white and too old" for LeBron and his cohorts. We had JR, Pax, Gar, ad Thibs there. 4 middle-aged/older white men that represent the establishment. Probably was not super appealing to LeBron. Not that that should matter, but my guess is that it didn't help our cause any.

QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 02:21 PM) Breaking News!!!!!!!!!!! My sources tell me he is not going to Houston. And this I would state my whole journalistic career on it. badum

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 01:09 PM) Posting every 12 minutes? I was at the Sox game last night for 6 hours, I made one post when I got home. I then have made maybe 2-3 posts today with my reasoning, and then some posts considering what I think the NBA would feel about it. Not sure how that is 1 every 12 minutes. /shrugs Sorry, I am taking out my frustration on the wrong person.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 01:08 PM) I still think he's the best over the past year and a half at like +35 or something. Nobody's even close to that number. So what has happened this year? Just not as many balls out of his zone to get to?
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 01:02 PM) My exact point is to wait and see. You on the other hand said it was done and hes going to Miami. I'm also not posting once every 12 minutes "He's not going to Miami" like you and Steve.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 01:00 PM) The problem is, you can only watch so much. In a lot of ways, your eyes are the most powerful weapon for talent evaluation, but in a lot of cases, stats are king. For example, would I rather listen to John Kruk talk about how great Torii Hunter is at fielding or should I just look at UZR and conclude that Hunter's been very mediocre for a while now? I'll take the latter, because John Kruk is most likely the illegitimate father of Paul McAnulty. Absolutely true. But then all offseason I have to hear about how Franklin Gutierrez is the best defensive center fielder ever and now this year he is a distant 5th. So there needs to be some restraint taken.
