QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 26, 2017 -> 02:47 PM) This probably doesn't bother me as much as most. I love THT's game so it really sucks to lose him and you never want to burn bridges with a power program in the state but at least for the next few years it doesn't look like Simeon has anyone that special on their roster and Illinois hasn't gotten an impact player from Simeon since the 90s. Yeah, that's the other thing. Swinging allegiances to MP from Simeon may not be a bad thing. It's not like the relationship with Simeon has done anything for Illinois recently. The last two huge recruits, Rose and Parker, went elsewhere. What good did playing nice with Simeon over the years get us? -

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Oct 26, 2017 -> 02:41 PM) If it's a binary choice between Ayo and THT, you take Ayo. The mistake here was the staff not understanding how deep the rift was between the Ayo camp and THT. The staff could have exited the THT sweepstakes gracefully last week when everyone thought he was a long shot to come to IL. Then there's no shade thrown at Ayo, no issues with Simeon, and no drama. Staff made a bad read here and they are going to pay for it. Note, that I understand why the staff pushed for THT - Underwood loves him, and he and Ayo would have a great 2 man start to a class. The upside of pushing for THT to join Ayo was high. Staff didn't have a good read on how deep this rift (at least from the Ayo and MIF side) was. This could be the situation, or they could have been talking to Ayo's camp about this and got the impression they didn't care. The clearest evidence of this is that Illinois continued to recruit THT and set up an official visit with him just days before Ayo was going to commit. If this is such a big deal to Ayo's camp, why isn't this communicated to Illinois? "i'm not committing if you still intend to recruit THT." But maybe the answer there is that Ayo's camp wasn't going to make a big deal of it unless it had to. THT has been an ISU lock for a while. The visit apparently sold him on Illinois. So once those rumors got out they felt compelled to make their position known. Who knows, the whole situation is f***ed. I'm behind them choosing Ayo over THT given the upside going forward. But you're right, if they whiff on those guys the next year or two at Morgan Park they're really setting themselves up for more Chicago recruiting failure (although it's been that way for decades, so it's not like this staff is any different than any post-Henson) -

Well, talk about your fork in the road decision by Underwood. Hope it's the right one long term. I hope he or his assistants are still tight with Robert Smith at Simeon. This is a bad look, even if he's picking the better player. I wonder how much Miller's recruitment next year plays into this. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 25, 2017 -> 09:22 AM) I'll bite. I only watched first half but Lauri was pretty exciting. Wow, I was just coming to post the same thing. Only saw the 1st quarter and then the highlights, but looks like he may be legit. The best shooter in the draft designation looks accurate 3 games into the season. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 24, 2017 -> 11:28 AM) We did. Sorry you were under a rock when Butlers trainer blasted Garpax last year, but that article basically says "We had injuries, a normal parting with Thibs, and players are divas" There is little to no criticism of how terrible the actual trade with the Thunder was, how they actually admitted they took the first deal offered for Butler last summer, how many truly terrible personnel moves they made to get them to the point that they are at right now. Nothing Totally agree. That was a timeline piece. Nothing journalistic about it. -

Hopefully he's a domino that starts it all rolling. He's tight with a number of the '19 and '20 guys. Some of them, like Adam Miller, were in attendance last night. Francis Okoro would be a huge get next year, along with Liddell. Just show something this year. Even if they end up .500 and in the NIT, show that the offense can score and be fun and entertaining. It sounds like what sold Ayo was playing fast and shooting within 7 seconds of the shot clock. That stuff appeals to these top guys. Get out and run. -

Boom, Illinois gets Ayo. He and Smith could be the recruits to turn it all around. -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 18, 2017 -> 04:39 PM) Gar had a chance to get rid of him last year but didn't as well. Typical. According to Cowley some of this stems from the fact that Niko wasn't around during the summer playing ball. But to be fair to Niko, he didn't have a contract. Not sure i'd be around either. One bad play/fall and your salary potential takes a nose dive. Still, just another embarrassment for this franchise. Even if you're the type to believe that GarPax has made good personnel decisions, the Bulls really need change for change's sake. Wipe the slate clean and start over. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Oct 18, 2017 -> 01:54 PM) Yes, they are in all pro sports. But the key factor here was the extent of the injury. Hitting someone hard enough to fracture the upper jaw is crazy. That's a great deal of force. He either had to hit him when he wasn't looking or when he was on the floor. It's possible he got knocked out and the fall to the ground caused the fracture. Seems more likely IMO. I bet if Portis hit him hard enough to break Mirotic's face, he'd have a broken hand/fingers. -

Wow. Heyward with a horrific injury. Broken leg it looked like. 6 minutes into the season. -
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 10:03 PM) Ralphie May was one of the first stand ups I watched and I laughed so hard at his bit about a black movie theater. Totally agree, he was a funny, funny dude. Marc Maron re-posted a podcast with him from 2012 that was a good listen.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 14, 2017 -> 08:55 PM) This storm has cause a little seepage under a wall in my basement. Anything I can do or just fans and call someone later? The obvious: make sure you've got good grading away from your house on that side. Less obvious: make sure your downspouts or your sump pump discharge pipe are pushing the water away from the house (if you have anything like that on that side). Even if the grade is good, if there's enough water being discharged at one spot near the house, it could seep in that way, especially if the earth gets really saturated. When we first moved into our place we would get some seepage in our basement right below the main sewer line going out of the house. It would require a massive storm like this weekend or a particularly rainy spell, like 3-4 days straight. It took me a while to figure out, but basically our sump pump ejected the water outside in the same area as the sewer line. The prior owner had buried a drain pipe to go out a few feet from the house, but when I dug it up I found that 1) it was only like 3 feet long and 2), it was cracked. So basically the sump pump would spit out water and it would just pool right there next to the house. Putting a longer drain on it fixed the problem.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 13, 2017 -> 12:41 PM) Valtonen to ASU, Illinois is now 0-5 on top targets. Ayo visiting this weekend, lots of good vibes but my confidence is shaken. Not a good sign that these guys tend to commit elsewhere after their Illinois visit. Total lack of excitement while being on campus apparently. Call up the Nike rep and make sure Ayo commits! -

So they're admitting that UNC cheated but because they couldn't prove they intentionally cheated it's not a violation (when does that excuse EVER work in regards to NCAA infractions? Intent is rarely considered). They're also admitting that this has to do with academics, and they couldn't give two s***s about academics. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 13, 2017 -> 09:10 AM) LoL, UNC gets off with the dumbest explanation from the NCAA ever. "You cheated but some regular students benefited so, it's ok!" Illinois better start an entire f***ing program for this since it's now 100% acceptable under the rules. Every student athlete can have their s*** done for them so long as some random students can do the same. Done. Do it. -
Here's a good read on it being common knowledge but people were too afraid to publish the stories: https://www.vox.com/culture/2017/10/9/16447...arvey-weinstein
-
And there seemed to be a very common tactic he used - get one of his producers/assistants to set up meeting with Target X, have the producer/assistant in the room to start the meeting and make the girl feel comfortable and then leave when it was time to for Weinstein to attack. They helped him do this.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 10, 2017 -> 04:58 PM) As I said before, as soon as their credible evidence as to who knew/hid what then well have something, and those people should be held accountable. As of now you are speculating, we have no idea who knew what. Weinstein was a millionaire, Im sure his attorneys did a good job of hiding what was going on. You really think that they put "SETTLING RAPE CASE" in bold red letters at the top of communications? My guess is that there were a bunch of NDA's etc (which many of the actresses have confirmed) with his company and the board as well. Im sure it was spun as "There is no credibility to this case but its cheaper to settle than to take the press hit." And therein lies the problem. Until the whole "blame the victim" culture goes away, its very hard for victims to defend themselves. The risk is extremely high and often not at all worth the reward. Did you read the New Yorker piece?
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 10, 2017 -> 04:49 PM) Then what was the point of your post? Its entirely speculative and we have no way of knowing who knew what. If credible evidence comes out that X person helped hide something, than that person should go down (terrible pun and not intentional) as well. I dont care if they are a Republican or Democrat. We know he (and probably his company) paid out at least 8 settlements over the years. There's at least one intern that was a victim and she reported his harassment to a female exec and nothing happened. It's pretty obvious with the joke Seth MacFarlane made and some of the statements by A-listers that his actions were common knowledge. But you know what? He made money, so people worked with him. People agreed to do his movies. Politicians took his money. Other people should be ashamed for the culture that existed around him where he felt insulated enough to do the things he did.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 10, 2017 -> 04:46 PM) Who cares if it is men or women? The guy appears to be a criminal, plenty of people have their reasons for not reporting criminal activity. Im going to guess that Weinstein knew a lot of secrets that could sink a lot of people. Maybe those executives werent rapists, but its Hollywood, you have to imagine there is a lot of illegal drugs, etc. Again we are taking focus away from a criminal and trying to blame other people. WTF are you talking about? Other people should be blamed!!! They knew what this monster was doing for DECADES and did nothing to stop him.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 10, 2017 -> 04:27 PM) No no, lets make political points instead of focusing on criminal behavior. We should never come together as a society to condemn this. Oh please. Pointing that out doesn't mean I don't condemn this sick f*** and what he did.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 10, 2017 -> 04:21 PM) No, we can still talk about how the GOP doesnt care about women, but it turns out high powered men, regardless of political leaning, continue to abuse women with no repercussions. And plenty of women in power new of this stuff and did nothing to prevent it. Don't peg this on men alone. As I said before, where the hell is the board at his company after all the settlements keep getting paid? So far I've read of one senior executive that confronted Weinstein about this (male). Even the women execs did nothing.
-
Not to get all political, but I guess this means we can stop with the "Republicans don't care about women" crap. Clearly the left elitists in Hollywood allowing this s*** to go on for so long don't care either. And LOL at Seth McFarlane's joke from 4 years ago: listen to the nervous laughter!! like "ha ha, it's true!"
