  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 11:35 AM) No, when multiple people are saying the Bulls are now equipped to beat the Heat because of Jimmy Butler, yes, that's ridiculous hype. He averaged 41.8 MPG in the playoffs. You better get 13 and 5 with that many minutes. How many more excuses are you going to make? Again, no one is saying that Butler is an all-star and will rival Wade as the best SG in the series. But it's a significant upgrade on both ends of the floor.
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 11:29 AM) Well, let's be honest, no one in the entire NBA averaged 40 mpg last year. http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/player/_/stat/minutes He'll be up there, though. Right, but we're focusing on the playoffs and specifically a series against the Heat. 15 players averaged 40 mpg+ during the postseason last year.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 11:15 AM) He averaged like 45 minutes per game. That's not sustainable. He's a nice rotation piece. That's it. Until the Bulls get that legitimate second option they're just a wannabe. More like 40, and I'm not sure why he wouldn't. He's what, 22? He's not 30.
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 10:58 AM) Oh my goodness gracious. You know what, Butler better average at least 15 ppg on good efficiency and make an all-defensive team for all this ridiculous hype. I dunno that it's hype if you watched the playoffs. He's not an all-star, but he's a good guard, something Rose has never had. He averaged 13 pts and 5 reb during last years playoffs. Compare that to Bogans (5 pts and 1 reb) or Brewer (4pts and 2 rebs) from 2010-2011.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 09:47 AM) It may have made money, but that movie was a mess. I had such high hopes for it, but there are so many plot holes and things that just dont make sense in the scheme of the Alien mythology. Agreed. Looked amazing though.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 10:04 AM) No, sir. I had the Heat taking the east about a month ago. But I'm warming up to the idea of 4 consecutive trips to the finals being damn near impossible (though if Mike hadn't retired 43 times the Bulls would've done it). The Bulls and Pacers are boring. 0-4 during the big three era. They're comin' with the same s***. Not gonna work. The Nets are a totally different animal. Kidd's just got to get them to April. Easier said than done. But if he does, that team is going to be a playoff terror. Pacers took Miami to 7 without a bench. They now have a bench. Bulls have only had one shot against the Heat and they had a s***ty SG at the time. Butler is now here, an added dimension. Nets are going to be a "too many cooks in the kitchen" s*** show for a while, but with KG/Pierce I think they figure it out. Unfortunately for them they spend all their effort beating up n the Heat in a grueling 7 game series, so the Bulls take advantage and beat them in the Finals.
  7. I did the mult-assassination stock purchase but I must have missed the window.
  8. Bulls over Nets Spurs over Thunder Bulls over Spurs
  9. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 06:44 AM) 1. Stop saying this. Stop, stop, stop. It's absolutely meaningless when he's the one responsible for setting the bar so incredibly low. 2. You know it's bad when the only actual defense of him is one mediocre class. And this cant possibly hold up when everyone knows he's a lame duck coach. See: Zook, Ron. 3. No, a death sentence is hanging onto a coach too long when it's clearly time to move on. Every Illinois fan should know this by now. 4. Who cares? We won't be paying Zook and Beckman's buyout is cheap. Not to mention with Beckman at the helm, excitement and revenues have to be at an extreme low to the point where it makes financial sense to hire someone else. Agreed. The only caveat is you have to find a coach that is (1) good at the X's and O's, (2) can recruit the midwest (most important), and (3) is ok with a rebuilding project. I just don't know if that guy is out there. It's a much easier sell to bring in a guy to take over a middle of the pack big ten team. Oh right, we should have done that in 2009. Sigh.
  10. I've seen the references in-game, but what's the big deal with that app? What does it give you in terms of the game?
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 28, 2013 -> 12:47 PM) Why? He could literally kill someone with the way he launches, and he's continued to do it repeatedly despite fines, suspensions, and clear instruction from the League to stop doing it. Why is this a "much, much worse offense" than Marshall getting into some fight with his crazy ex? One is a social no-no, one is a rule infraction in a game (a rule which is trying to curb plays that were celebrated not long ago). He's absolutely dirty, I don't like the guy, and he should have been suspended for longer than a game. But if you're asking, like he does, what would you prefer - someone who hits guys in a dangerous/dirty fashion or someone who would beat a woman, i'm going with the dirty player.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 28, 2013 -> 12:25 PM) I totally agree with that, and i havent excused him for it. All I am saying is Meriwether repeatedly does the same thing over and over, and Marshall hasnt hit a woman in years. Marshall realizes what he did was wrong, Meriwether thinks the league is wrong for telling him to hit low. And on top of it, Meriwether thinks it is funny. Both of them did s***ty things, but Meriwether keeps losing money for it. 5 years ago Merriwether is getting bonuses and featured regularly on "JACKED UP" segments with those same "dirty" hits. In my book beating your girlfriend is a much, much worse offense and he's absolutely right to call out Marshall on it.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 28, 2013 -> 11:38 AM) Brandon Meriweather speaks about his suspension: "To be honest, man, you've just got to go low now, man. You've got to end people's careers, you know? You've got to tear people's ACLs and mess up people's knees now. You can't hit them high no more. You've just got to go low." about Brandon Marshall: "He feel like I need to be kicked out of the league? I feel like people who beat their girlfriends should be kicked out, too. You tell me who you'd rather have: Somebody who play agressive on the field, or somebody who beat up their girlfriend?" Is response #1 a threat? Or is he saying that he doesn't have a choice now but to tackle lower which will result in more injuries? He's got a point about Marshall.
  14. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 28, 2013 -> 11:16 AM) That could lead to some awkward moments. Hey if some girl is finding out I only have one nut i'm already in a good spot.
  15. Don't miss college? Ugh. I'd give my right nut to go back and do it all over again. Hardly any responsibility, hanging out with friends 24/7, being high or drunk 24/7, young co-eds, etc. etc.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 28, 2013 -> 10:51 AM) It seems like there is little choice as a fan but to disengage. The team, the staff, and the program aren't worthy of close attention. I'll check the scores and I might turn the game on if there's absolutely nothing to do. I can't get worked up about Beckman because the program is s*** and I just can't care. No coach could bring us back in any decent span of time. I just don't care anymore. I hope they decide to do a thing and make it fun again. Get another Juice Williams into the program just so I can see how many receivers' fingers (referees and defenders are fine too) he can break or something. Groce walked into a better situation, but he took it and ran with it. Illinois basketball was such a bummer. While the season was up and down (most will be when you play in the B1G), I hadn't felt so proud to be U of I fan in a long time after that NCAA Tourney game. We played our asses off, maximized the talent on the floor, and arguably deserved a victory. The team was a real team and belonged there. The run in the B1G Tourney was very fun as well. Add the exciting recruitment and I can't wait for basketball to get going. Illinois football has made a habit of minimizing talent, losing its best recruits to discipline and academic issues, and just generally being a giant disappointment. I'm not f***ing with that anymore. I get enough of it with the Bears, who are much more fun. I've been this way for the last 10 years. I get excited for the season to start and slowly but surely that excitement just fades away. I'll still tune into the games, but as soon as they get down by 10 I'm out. I really thought the program had made a turn a few years ago when they beat a ranked ASU team at night. That was a great game to be at, one of the best home games probably since the Rose Bowl year. Been nothing but downhill since.
  17. Supposedly, and again this is all based on internet make-em-up rumor, it was made "silent" so that it wouldn't deflect attention away from Cliff's visit. But yeah, I have a hard time believing it's true.
  18. Rumors are that Groce got a silent verbal from someone this weekend. Would have to be either DJ Williams or Charles Matthews. Either would be great.
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 28, 2013 -> 09:33 AM) This. If anything, a big part of the reason Illinois football is where its currently at is because of retaining coaches too long. Ron Turner won the Big 10, stopped recruiting and built a MAC level roster that Zook inherited. Zook should have been fired after 2009 when he somehow went 3-9 with a roster with a ton of NFL players and instead Ron Guenther decided to make a coach who's only redeeming quality is his recruiting essentially a figurehead and lame duck which resulted in Ron Turner level recruiting in 2010, 2011 and 2012 (pre-firing) and the fact that we have maybe 4 or 5 players from the 2010 and 2011 classes total that are legitimate Big 10 players. A real program fires Zook in 2009 and the new guy would have inherited a roster with a ton of talent and had a good chance to win right off the bat in build momentum. I hate Ron Guenther so f***ing much. Agreed. And I don't get why people don't want Beckman gone. He's just making the program worse. Even if we suck again for another 2 years while someone else rebuilds, at least we're 2 years closer. Also, it needs to be said - Scheelhaase blows. He puts up great stats but also makes awful f***ing decisions with the ball. He's a 4 year starter and still makes freshman mistakes. He needs to be benched. Might as well see what Bailey has to offer before Lunt gets here.
  20. Re: Beckman - Get his ass out of here. And the defensive coordinator too. Keep Cubit, name him interim coach and see how he does for the rest of the season. The offense (generally speaking) has been good. Some play calls have been moronic, but whatever, that's fixable. The defense is terrible, even if it is devoid of talent or experience. Illinois couldn't stop a high school JV team, let alone Big Ten teams. They're not even close to stopping people. The lack of turnovers is mind boggling. The missed tackles and being out of position are unacceptable. And most of that is on the coaching. The one good thing Zook did (besides bringing in NFL talent and getting a Rose Bowl bid at a mediocre football school) was to provide a proper framework for what it takes to turn around a program: you lose big, you lose close, you win close and then you win big. Beckman has done nothing but lose big for two seasons. There hasn't been much improvement except on one side of the ball. It's not going to work. Get him out of here. It cracks me up that Thomas is talking about more renovations to memorial stadium. Fans want there to be MORE sitting. For a f***ing homecoming game they couldn't muster 50k fans. It's pathetic. There's zero excitement about the program. It's the same damn cycle every 10 years. Couple of decent seasons where we get duped into thinking everything is turned around, and then back to the cellar. There's no excuse for Illinois not being more middle of the pack in the Big Ten.
  21. Someone call up Bragg and Thomas and tell them to fly in for the weekend. Might as well get the starting line-up for the 2016 season on campus early.
  22. So by January really.
  23. It's a good sign that Groce is getting some of these guys to just come down and hang out for a weekend. Aaron Jordan seems to be down a lot too.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 25, 2013 -> 11:55 AM) There is a difference between smart and educated. And as a GENERAL rule, wouldn't you say the more educated you are the smarter you are?
  25. QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 25, 2013 -> 10:57 AM) Ohhhh, so people making less money aren't very smart. This will make my evaluations of people much easier As compared to people making more money? Yeah, id say as a general rule that's pretty true. Unless all that data about making more money with more education is bulls***.
