QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 09:31 AM) I don't believe they have picked a lane. They're going to be bad next year and for the near future. I have to believe they know that and planned on that when they gave up Butler for young players. -

So I was trying to talk myself back from the ledge last night. Here's what I came up with (this is extremely weak): I'm still pissed about the trade as I was in the camp that trading Butler for scraps made zero sense. I'm still pissed about the return they got - one solid NBA start, yet another PG project added to the pile, and a Mirotic/Bargnani clone. And although the 16th pick isn't going to be an all-star, it's still a pick. It's still POTENTIAL. And they squandered it. Having said that, they picked a lane. If Lebron stays in Cleveland, none of this matters. The Bulls aren't going to assemble a roster that can compete in the next 2-3 seasons. If Lebron bolts in 2018, the east becomes more wide open, but you have better rosters out there (Boston, Philly, Washington). So, yes, disappointed. Yes, another awful trade (so 3 in a row including the trade to get mcdermott, to get rid of mcdermott and gibson, and now this). And yes, more GarPax time. But, I guess at the end of the day, maybe it doesn't really matter? /ends lame attempt to accept this. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 02:46 PM) See the edited post I made (above yours) which shows a history of top 5 picks (excluding #1 overall picks...so picks 2-5). The list is pretty damn depressing. This view that being awful for long is some great path to success is a bit delusional (not saying you have that view). Some could say the same thing about my view....I guess the difference is...I don't think that the only way to build a contender is via tanking. In fact, I can't really think of an example who has proven tanking works. Maybe Sixers will eventually pull it off. Warriors didn't tank to get where they did...they struck gold in a series of drafts though (and than on top of that had Durant land in their lap). That said, neither Curry / Klay were top 5 picks and Draymond wasn't even a 1st rounder. That list is a great reason why I've been against trading Butler for picks. You have a proven top 12 player in the league in his prime. He's done nothing but improve EVERY year he's been in the league. In an era when you need 3 of those guys to win a championship, why on earth give up 1?? That list is also why i'm against one of those draft wheel systems (where every team is just slotted into a draft position for the next 30 years, regardless of how they do in any given season). Look how much luck it takes to draft hall of fame players. You have to be picking high in that particular draft AND you have to make the right pick. That would be awful waiting the 5-6 years to get in that top 5 and then you end up with a really bad draft class to choose from. -

Would anyone have interest in Aldridge? Dangle the 16 plus Mirotic? Sounds like that marriage is not going so well. -

QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 01:43 PM) Bleacher ReportVerified account @BleacherReport 1m1 minute ago More Knicks asking Celtics for the No. 3 pick, Jaylen Brown, Jae Crowder & 2018 BKN pick for Porzingis, per @FisolaNYDN http://ble.ac/2sv0mnW That's a pretty good deal for both teams IMO. I'm not sold on Brown but at least you get a decent prospect. Crowder is a solid starter on a bad team and you get one high lottery pick this year and another next year (or at least good odds of it). And I think the added advantage for Boston is that they can dump some money and get enough cap space to offer Hayward a max deal. -

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) Question - do we consider Presidential assassins or shooters "terrorists"? Honestly asking. I think it depends on the intent, which I admit is maybe not the best way to base your classifications of crimes. But I wouldn't say that Hinckley was a terrorist. He was insane and committed an insane act. He wasn't attempting to topple democracy or make a grand political statement by the act. He was trying to impress a girl. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 11:02 AM) This is a great example of how to make statistics lie. How an incident like this gets filed totally influences how people in the future go back and count this as a statistic in the future. By not attaching the term "terrorism" to this, the government gets to keep citing stats that show terrorism isn't happening. Is their proof there was some political motivation behind this guy? If not, and if he was just pissed about life and hated the GOP/Congressional Repubs, then i'd agree this is not a terrorist act. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 01:02 AM) I'm beginning to think the Knicks do the unthinkable and trade Porzingas. Phil sounds really kissed at him. If only the Bulls had the assets While I think Porzingis is a special talent, id be scared to rely on him as my franchise guy. I see a few great years and a lot of injury prone ones. -

Ok, so two things here: 1) f*** GarPax if the reason to move him is to give Hoiberg another shot. That's asinine. 2) If the Bulls were demanding the 3rd pick and got rejected, and that's the value, no thanks. I'd rather keep Butler and sign him long term and he can be a Bull the rest of his career. -

QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 07:21 AM) Seriously it is a challenge sometimes. The mom of one of my players drops f bombs after bad shots by her daughter. She asked how I manage not to. I laughed and told her it was tough. She told me to just whisper them. Her grandpa follows the Bob Knight tradition. We good coach - bad coach her all the time. lol I'm glad I can be the kumbaya singing coach. I took my 14 year old nephew out this weekend and boy do I have a bigger appreciation for coaches of young kids. Granted, you at least have kids who WANT to be good and probably have some experience, but this kid got SO down on himself when he couldn't hit a good shot. He's only played a few times, and golf is probably THE worst sport to start because of the insane pressure you feel (from your group and from players behind you), but it was still pretty crazy how upset he was that he wasn't hitting the ball like the pros. You don't really get that with other sports. Sure, you're not dunking like Lebron, but you can hit the shots that he takes. He would top the ball, hit it 3 yards, miss completely, etc. I kept telling him to take his time and to try to have fun with it, but it was pretty much torture for him. He sat out a couple of holes because of his frustration. I think by the end he was happy he went and wants to play more in the future, but it was a pretty negative experience for him I think overall, which is sad. I'm a ~10 handicap and would be better if I played more, but even if I shoot a 95 i'm still having a great time. I'm outside playing golf. What's not to like? -

Didn't we just go through this with Boston around the trade deadline, and then it turns out that the two sides didn't even exchange offers/demands? This is all agent/team fed garbage. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 04:00 PM) I could have sworn that Brown was one of the few that actually showed up vs the Cavs Athletically he made some plays in that one game at Boston, but otherwise he was really bad throughout the playoffs. He was benched for a while. edit: I mean he's young, so there's obviously upside, but I hate when teams give up on young talent. Almost always means they've found something out they don't like. If he's really that good, why would the Celtics give up on him? -

So Stephen A Smith apparently reported this morning that the Sixers turned down a Butler for pick #3(and potentially more) deal. 1) No 2) I find this really hard to believe. http://thebiglead.com/2017/06/19/philadelp...m-grabbing-him/ -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 01:00 PM) We all know how much Floyd loves money, but it would be shocking if he gave up his undefeated record in trying to get those 2 extra paydays, that wouldn't be guaranteed, Most are speculating he wants to get to that 50-0 mark. Doubt this is for the money. You have to wonder why the gaming commission would sanction this fight (obviously the $$). It completely devalues the sport, taking the best ever or one of the best ever and having him fight someone who has literally never boxed before. But perhaps that's what they want, merging MMA and boxing and this is that transitional step.
