  1. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 01:52 PM) He's been behind the death of Ned, Cat and Rickon along with Sansa's rape, but you know, has he really done anything to the Starks? He tried to help Ned but Ned wouldn't listen and got himself killed. LF just stuck with the winning side there. I'm not sure how he was responsible for Cat other than setting the wheels in motion of a conflict between 2 great houses (which actually started with Jaime/Cersei f***ing and getting caught by Bran....something he had nothing to do with). How did he get Rickon killed? Are we to believe he was behind Theon's coup?
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 01:40 PM) Lol, did he do anything bad to the Starks beside setting off the event that got Neds head chopped off? I dunno He's an opportunist. Not sure he's a truly evil guy in this world where there are very few right/moral people. And i'm just saying, from a story telling perspective, it's been a LONG time since LF did anything truly awful. He's been pushed aside for a while now. His last major act was saving the good guys.
  3. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 12:54 PM) Tyrion definitely owned the dagger at some point. I'm fairly certain that's true in both the shows and the books. LF uses that info to create chaos in both universes because it sets Cat on a path that leads to her kidnapping Tyrion and the chaos that ensues. In the books, LF is just taking advantage of an opportunity. In the show? Who knows at this point. Yeah, that's the big problem - the show has done a poor job with LF. For 2 seasons he's been sitting on the sidelines, literally just roaming the halls. His last "bad" act was sending Sansa to Ramsey, but he also saved Sansa/Jon/the North, so isn't that kind of a wash? Other than potentially starting the whole war, has he really done anything "bad" to the Starks, the only real "good guys" in the show? You can't really blame him for Ned's death when he tried to help Ned and Ned was just an idiot and wouldn't take his advice. I had a thought that maybe Arya was going to kill LF and then use LF's face to kill Cersei, but that would feel hollow. I just don't feel much for/against LF at this point. He's a secondary character. If he gets killed, I don't think it's going to be some huge moment. They need to either build him back up or back down. Pick a lane. Right now he's just "there."
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 11:37 AM) Why did he tell Bran he didn't know where the dagger came from then? Unless I'm misremembering that line. I may be misremembering this as well, but I thought he said he didn't know how it got into the assassin's hands, not who the dagger belonged to.
  5. I got a lot more work done this week...
  6. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 04:15 PM) Can we all agree that if someone is planning to post any of the alleged "leaked" future scripts that they put spoiler tags on them? Those people should be banned from the board! Don't do that here. I don't want to know.
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 11:42 AM) Euron's navy has a bunch of flame missiles launching all over the place. Why is what is essentially just a large crossbow supposed to be some sort of ace in the hole?? Plot armor is extremely powerful, my friend. I don't disagree, but it seems very unlikely at this point that they bring the Horn into play. They had to come up with some way to kill a dragon on screen (water cooler talking point) or at minimum provide a threat to Dany's seemingly unbeatable weapon. A large crossbow that would be too cumbersome to be all that effective against a flying dragon is apparently what they came up with.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 11:36 AM) They could be depicting the Iron Bank similar to how things worked here during slavery. Slavery wasn't legal in NYC or Britain, but both places sure got wealthy off of all the trade generated by it. I'm not sure they really established a large global trade economy from Slaver's Bay that would involve Braavos, but that could potentially be how that would work. Or it's just more sloppy writing and plot holes. Definitely agree on it not making sense for Cersei to be gaining power again right now, which is part of the reason I'm pretty bored with her story line. If her dumb "secret weapon" ballistas actually manage to kill a dragon I'll be entirely done with that part of the story and ready for The Night King stuff. Oh you know they're going to get at least one dragon that way. It's a Chekhov's ballista.
  9. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 11:24 AM) About the Lannister forces and some other things. 1) Someone asked where the Tyrell army was. I believe that they have implied that the army is somewhere nears King's Landing, so it may have been too far for them to get back to Highgarden. 2) Lannister army keeps adding allies. Its impossible to know the numbers, but a good majority of those forces attacking Highgarden could have been from Tarley. Which also could explain why Highgarden was under defended as they expected Tarley to protect them. The writers of the show noted in the after-episode summary that the Tyrell's are rich but they've always been bad fighters. I don't remember that ever being brought up in the show, but that was their (weak) explanation.
  10. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 11:23 AM) Isn't the Iron Bank in Braavos, the "Free City of Braavos," on the show though? I'm not entirely sure that it's consistent that the Iron Bank would be like "we can't support Dany because she freed slaves in Slavers Bay and if she wins the Iron Throne she will spread those ideas to Westeros where slavery is already illegal?" That scene didn't work for me. But that scene kind of points to a larger issue. Cersei literally destroyed the Sept of Baelor, killing a popular Pope and popular Queen in the process. She's calling it "an accident" but there's no way that everybody doesn't know the truth of the matter - that Cersei did this. That act makes her the Mad Queen. But she is able to hand wave it away by being like "remember how crazy Aerys was? What if Dany is mad!" Or, "yeah, we haven't paid bills in awhile and, yeah, that caused you to bankroll Stannis. But Dany is anti-slavery! And something about Lannisters always paying their debts!" The point is that it doesn't make narrative sense for Cersei to continue to be able to persuade and consolidate her power. She started this season in a terrible spot, after having committed a straight up atrocity (that should have actually led to a popular revolt against her right?) and in 3 episodes, she's more powerful than she, or the Lannisters, have been at literally any other point in the show. I suppose the counter is (1) the alternative is the daughter of the Mad King using foreign invaders as her army...that argument seemed to work on Tarly, and (2) she started off in a better spot than we think. She's destroying her enemies camped in/around King's Landing that could push her out. She's got a pro-Cersei counsel, the King's guard, Lannister soldiers inside the city, etc. I agree that it's really unbelievable that weeks or even months prior to this the City was against her and in support of Margery/the High Septon, and now it's a complete 180. But I think we're supposed to believe the masses are dumb and will follow anyone, especially when fear is involved.
  11. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 09:55 AM) Seriously on the bolded. I agree with the last point as well. Last season, the Lannister's forces were spread so thin that they couldn't deal with a couple Faith's Militant with clubs. This season, they are an unstoppable force keeping peace in the Riverlands, garrisoning Casterly Rock, protecting KL, and apparently are strong enough that LF and Sansa are worried about them invading the North in winter? Not enough character development going on here. After blowing up her allies and the Pope of Westeros last season, Cersei has seen no political consequences for that act. At all. It's jarring to me. I suppose the answer is fear - they know what she's capable of. Maybe the writers gave a nod to this idea when they had Jaime tell Euron about how fickle the masses were - one second yelling at Cersei in the streets, the next loving her.
  12. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 10:54 AM) This is the thing that bothers me right now. Cersei has made enough mistakes to kill at least 3 Starks. Sure, she's had a few setbacks, but she's still alive and improving her position. She literally hand-waved away their massive debt to The Iron Bank with "the check is in the mail." Time warping to get people where they want when they want has happened the whole series. Remember like episode 3? Ros got from Winterfell to Kings Landing in like an hour in a rocket-fueled turnip cart. Tyrion went from Winterfell to The Wall to an inn in the Riverlands to The Eyrie in like 3 episodes. I thought they handled that pretty well though. Her counter wasn't just a promise to pay in 14 days, it was that the bank has no choice but to fund Cersei's war. They can't align with Dany because Dany is opposed to how the bank makes money. The bank loses if Dany wins the war.
  13. I guess I assumed that Euron was back at King's Landing presenting Cersei with Ellaria at or before the time that Jon left Winterfell. So if Euron left King's Landing at about the same time, is it really that far off the time line? You have to assume it took weeks for Jon to get to Dragonstone, and then I think they hinted that he was there for a while (even if you don't see it). I don't think we're supposed to believe that the Dragonstone stuff happened in a single day. If we're really going to gripe about the timeline, what's taking the Knight's King so long to attack the south? They've been walking for years. Or the one I have the most trouble with - how many forces do the Lannisters really have? They have to have enough of a garrison to protect King's Landing from a direct attack, but they also have enough to keep a small garrison at Castle Rock and then an invasion force at Highgarden? And more to the point - it's questionable whether Cersei or Jaime would take that force away from King's Landing knowing that Dany and her dragons are already back in Westeros. I get that they needed gold to pay off the Iron Bank, but what's the point of getting that gold if Dany attacks King's Landing and everyone is killed/captured?
  14. Is there anything worse than buying a car? The sales pitches, the constant harassment, the constant upsells. I'd honestly pay a few extra grand to have an awesome experience test driving and then buying a car. I'm shocked that certain car manufacturers don't mandate this from the top down to the dealers they license. Be cool, don't be pushy, and we'll make buying a car from us an ENJOYABLE experience and we'll get repeat business. The wife and I ended up buying this weekend. We'd been test driving most of the 3rd row suv's out there the last few weeks. I couldn't talk her into a Tahoe (too big), a few were too small (CX-9, Highlander), some I felt were overly pricey for what you get (MDX, XC90). So we had it narrowed down to the Durango (so great with the Hemi), the Pilot (nice bang for the buck, probably the most typical/comfortable family SUV that borders on a minivan), and the Explorer. We ended up with an Explorer Platinum, their top of the line fully loaded trim. I was looking to buy new, without all of the bells and whistles, but they had a 2016 with 5k miles on it. I got it for about 22% off the sticker price, so i'm not sure I got a GREAT deal, but I don't think I got screwed either. Some of the features are really awesome - the fully automated 3rd row seats that include stow and go, the 360 degree sensors (every side and corner of the car), the front and back cameras, park assist, etc. etc. I've never had a car with auto/smart cruise control and wow, what a game changer. That's going to be awesome on our road trips. And it can tow 5k lbs, so future proofing if we get a small pop up camper/travel trailer. So yeah, if anyone is looking at a 3rd row suv, feel free to ask questions. That's been my world the last month or so. I feel like I know all of them pretty well at this point.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 09:59 AM) Every representative should be required to have a way for their constituents to vote online on every issue. And they should be required to comply. The only reason this system was put in place was to give representation to the folks who couldn't ride horses to the capital to vote. They shouldnt be able to act independently. Not sure what that solves and i'm not sure why you would want that. A progressive agenda would take longer to implement as the people are generally years or decades behind on the various social issues.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 12:43 PM) The NFL didn't "find out" anything from that report today, I'm sure they have known for a long time. It's tough for the NFL to have this info made public. The big issue is the future. How many kids are not going to play because of this news? How does that effect the next generation of athletes? The popularity of the game won't diminish. I mean, maybe I'm in the minority, but CTE/concussions are about reason 52 why my interest in the NFL has lessened over the years. I don't really care at all. They've assumed the risk of playing a violent game involving people colliding at full-speed. It's not a shock that there will be adverse health consequences to playing that game for an extended period of time.
  17. I think that's 0 for 2 for me so far this season...first episode was a bit boring, this was a bit boring AND had a rather dumb ending. How does Euron know exactly where Asha's fleet would be? They're heading to Casterly Rock, not King's Landing. And in the dark no less. I also hate how they basically acknowledged the Sand Snakes have no purpose. Why on earth even show Dorne at all in the TV show? Other than Oberyn losing to the Mountain, that whole side story added nothing to the show.
  18. So, if I'm Dan Gilbert, I'm seriously considering the option of trading all of the big 3. Or maybe you keep Love, and trade Lebron and Kyrie for an insane package of 1st round picks over the next 2-3 seasons. Lebron is the only one of the three that has a no trade clause, but surely if you deal the other two, and his choice is a trade or a lost year in Cleveland, he's going to OK it (within reason I suppose). Kyrie supposedly said he wanted to go to the Knicks, Heat, Spurs and Timberwolves. He and Jimmy are tight. If you're Thibs, could you package basically anyone and everyone other than Jimmy and KAT for Kyrie? Throw in some picks? That wold be a pretty fun team in another season or two...
  19. So I talked my wife into a road trip through South Dakota in August. I'm thinking we'll take a few days to get out to Rapid City (stopping in Badlands on the way) and then do day trips to places like Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, Deadwood, etc. Anyone ever done a trip like this? Any recommendations? I think my 5 year old son will dig all the western/cowboy stuff and the wild animals at the parks.
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 09:05 PM) POTUS to McCain via official statement, "Get well soon". He has brain cancer, not a cold Is it really better than the nonsensical "give cancer hell" message Obama sent him, as if effort is somehow going to help his chances?
  21. lol, I like how I said "the Putin." But yeah, I mean 20% of Trump supporters aren't going to believe any news, so that doesn't surprise me. But I find it hard to believe that such a high percent don't believe something directly admitted by Trump Jr. There's gotta be some confusion on the question or what they mean by "Russia."
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 07:47 AM) Only 45% of Trump voters believe that Donald Jr has a meeting with Russians, a thing he has publicly admitted to. https://twitter.com/ppppolls/status/8870425...src=twsrc%5Etfw I'd be curious to see what the question was. There's a difference IMO between people believing that Trump Jr. met with a Russian citizen versus "Russia" or an agent of Russia. Do we know if those Russians in the meeting were agents speaking on behalf of the Putin?
  23. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 02:48 PM) So I will delete the Earhart show on my DVR without watching. Anyone see the Jack the Ripper special....I assume it will be bad after reading this thread. I started it last night but was immediately disappointed and turned it off. It's right up my alley too - historical Chicago. But of course this is History Channel so they've completely f***ed up the delivery here. It starts with an ex-trial lawyer who happens to be Holmes' great great grandson. Ok, so for so good. He decided he wants to find out as much as possible about his long lost relative. And then he's got an oddball hypothesis - maybe Holmes was also Jack the Ripper. Ok, a little out there, so i'm intrigued. After deciding he's done all the research he can, he gets some help from an expert. The "expert" is an ex-CIA officer with a human behavior/psychology specialty. And one of the first thing she says she wants to do is go to ground zero, where Holmes' murders actually occurred (because of course it makes since for a human behavior specialist to physically inspect a home that no longer exists from 150 years ago). So they first end up at the Chicago Culture Museum (I think, something like that), and they're shown plats of Holmes' death factory from back in the day and the plat from today. Turns out there's a Post Office built on the land. EXCEPT that it's not actually on the land where the home was built, the post office only encroached on a small sliver of the land. So the historian at the museum suggests that if they were to perform a dig at the site, they should focus their efforts on a small grassy area that's about a 1/4 of the size of the original home (because the rest is now a concrete parking lot). So the two main people in the show discuss what could possibly be in that grassy area if they started to dig, and one wonders if they could find human remains. BOOM. SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC. CUT TO COMMERCIAL. And that's when I shut that piece of s*** off. What. The. f***. Why on Earth are they even discussing the idea of digging up a small grassy area on a piece of land that covers a small sliver of the land where the house Holmes used stood 150 years ago? Why is that of any interest in the case of Holmes, who was found, tried and executed for the murders? The murders themselves are not even part of the theory they're trying to prove. What relevance does any of this have? The answer is nothing. It's the cornerstone of the White House episode all over again.
  24. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 12:21 PM) I disagree. Celtics by no means are in win now. Thomas and Horford aren't declining soon and they by no means are irreplaceable. They just were a rebuilding team that got better sooner than they expected. I think in Ainge's mind, Celtics' window is whenever they materialize their picks and Lebron starts to decline. Heyward just signed a 4 year deal and Horford has 3 left. Horford's already 31. Their window is within the next 2 years if those guys and Thomas are their big three. Brown is going into his second year and Tatum will be going into their first. Even if both guys end up being all-star caliber, it's going to be 3-4 seasons before they get there. If they aren't in win-now mode, then I'm not sure what Ainge is doing. It makes no sense spending money on Horford, Heyward and presumably Thomas if they are planning to wait another 2-3 seasons to really go for it.
  25. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 10:24 AM) I findit kinda humorous how teams would be so psyched to get one of the celts picks in a rebuild to build their franchise around but think those same picks are totally useless to the celtics. They're not useless, but they're not as valuable. Celtics need veterans to round out their roster. They don't need prospects with upside. They're in win-now mode, not win 3 seasons from now. I think Ainge is making a mistake not cashing in his assets. You don't have to empty the shelf, but it's head scratching that he wouldn't trade one of those lottery picks for a legit star. If you're a Celtics fan, wouldn't you rather have Jimmy Butler over Tatum? I would.
