QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 08:14 PM) And that is why I would love to see their programming go back to being more two sided. They wasted two hours on something a random dude smashed in 10 freaking images. Damn. I'm not sure it was ever "two-sided." But it has gone from legitimate, full length documentaries (back when it was basically the WW2/Hitler channel), to what we have now, which is Indiana Jones wannabes taking historical events/questions/myths and talking about nonsensical theories over the course of an hour before ultimately concluding that no one really knows anything. I'll never forget watching this piece of s*** (http://www.history.com/shows/brad-meltzers...son-1/episode-1) 7 years ago. An hour discussing the mystery behind the cornerstone of the Whitehouse and whether it went missing. The conclusion after 50 minutes of theorizing nonsensical Free Mason garbage, including what may have been stored inside the cornerstone? Nothing. It's still there, underground. Case solved! Thanks History Channel.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 01:20 PM) There were additional sanctions added, as well as kicking a lot of Russians out of the US. http://www.cnn.com/2016/12/29/politics/rus...ouse/index.html That says he sanctioned some individuals and Russian intelligence entities and kicked diplomats out. He didn't sanction Putin or Russia itself with economic sanctions.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 11:28 AM) Come on Jenks, you know there's a difference between Obama campaigning for Clinton, and Obama revealing that there is evidence that (a) Russia hacked the DNC; and (b) the Trump campaign might have collaborated with Russia in doing so. The 2nd part, yes, but he still could have come out strong against Russia for the hacks once the intelligence community concluded that the Russians didn't. He could have imposed additional sanctions. He did nothing. I think both sides are wrong here. Trump should have gone after Putin after he was sworn in and Obama should have done so when he was still President. Both failed miserably.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 11:01 AM) This is so naive. This isn't a left or right thing. This is war with the 2nd biggest superpower on the planet. As usual, there isn't getting anything past the rhetoric. I will exit now and let the circle jerk continue. I have a bigger problem with Trump people continuing to flat out lie than I do with them meeting with someone who has dirt on another candidate. You know Clinton was doing the same s*** trying to find dirt on Trump. As you said, this stuff happens and will happen in the future.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 10:54 AM) Obama, I think, was in a kind of tough spot. Any public condemnation of the hack on the DNC could have provided the impression that Obama was attempting to help Clinton in the election. It seems like that's the reason that Obama handled the initial issue with kid gloves, and I can absolutely see the logic behind that decision. Eh, that's pretty weak. Obama already WAS helping Clinton. He was speaking on her behalf and endorsing her.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 10:48 AM) Do you think what ultimately got Blago locked up is unusual activity for most politicians? If you speed to work every morning, and one day a cop stops you and starts writing you a ticket, you aren't going to tell him you have been speeding to work for years without ever being stopped so please stop writing this ticket. No, but if you're one car in a line of 10 going 80, you're going to ask the cop why he stopped you and not one of the others.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 10:48 AM) Jenks, see the below article re: the criminal statute that Don Jr. might have violated. https://www.vox.com/world/2017/7/10/1595059...k-times-illegal Thanks, that's what I was looking for.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 10:30 AM) Ok. But just because corruption may sometimes go uncaught doesn't mean we let a congressman go who has a million dollars in his freezer. Especially when this specific act has potential to continuously undermine the legitimacy of our elections. Trump could have legitimately owned the Russian issue by doing something responsible and actually pursuing action against Russia for the attacks on US elections. Other world leaders in similar spots have created legitimacy in heel turning against what was supposedly helping them. But Trump team didn't do that, they've lied about it repeatedly and sometimes illegally, they've denied it, and they fired the head of the investigation into it as well as floated out firing the independent council. While I agree with you 100%, why didn't Obama do anything? He had 6+ months. While I'm sure he did at some point, I don't remember him making a public statement condemning the DNC hack.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 10, 2017 -> 10:37 PM) republicans: Hillary might have committed a crime over email don Jr: hold my beer I've seen a lot of comments about how terrible this is, but is there an actual criminal statute that's cited somewhere? Is there something we're basing the criminal aspect on?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2017 -> 04:52 PM) The worst of the worst is making too much of summer league stats. It's like spring training IMO. Good play doesn't always translate to the regular season, but bad play is a concern. Cameron Payne has been terrible. Even the beat guys are commenting on it. I'm not sure what the hell the Bulls see in him other than a ticket to the high lottery pick. -

Valentine and Markkanen are 2-22 overall and 0-17 from 3. #1 pick really could be in play. -

I'm interested to see how Heyward does without Gobert taking up a lot of space in the paint and demanding a defender (or two). Celtics have no size. Will he be the same offensively? -
QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 10:00 AM) When you think you're bulletproof, these things will continue to happen. People are still flying their airlines, they see these incidents as no more than a hiccup. I'd be interested to see how their financials look over the last 6 months compared to other airlines. I think this stuff has an effect. I've never had anything but great experiences with Southwest. Even when their system f***s up, they've dealt with it in an acceptable way to try and make it right. I seek out Southwest before looking anywhere else, and if I have a choice between flights, i'm willing to pay a little more. Can't say the same about United. I steer clear. I did before this stuff, but now i'm for sure not going to deal with them unless I absolutely have to.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 09:03 AM) Pretty sure I would have made a bigger stink about it, since the kid should have had the seat. lost in this is why didnt the guy with the same seat, or who was given the kids seat, volunteer to take another flight? Why didn't United tell the stand by guy, tough luck buddy, she bought the kid a ticket in advance, you didn't. You lose. Or why didn't United ask for volunteers to take a different flight? Oh yeah, because they're extremely greedy. I feel for the mother. I have a 5 and 1 year old. We've flown numerous times with a baby/toddler. Being on a flight for 3.5 hours WITH the extra seat is brutal enough. Having to occupy that toddler in between your legs/on your lap, alone, would be a nightmare. I can't believe that United's corporate office hasn't put out a company wide memo in the wake of this ongoing PR nightmare to go overboard in assisting customers to make tough situations right. You know that passengers and the media are waiting to post another "United sucks" story. Why allow it? Offer up free tickets or multiple free tickets to give the kid a seat and prevent yet another news story.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 03:39 PM) War with North Korea would cost the lives of an unthinkable amount of people. It would also probably bankrupt our country. I normally think the tough talk with NK is just that, but with Trump who actually knows. Has there ever been a war that caused a financial issue for the country? I would think the opposite - we almost always benefit. The Iraq war was expensive, but I'm not sure it "cost" us anything economically.
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 03:16 PM) Why is it in North Korea's interest to lob a single nuke our way? The bigger concern is NK selling advanced nukes to rogue groups/terrorists. They don't have the tech yet, but they will eventually. Sanctions haven't work. Global intervention hasn't worked. This faux show of military force hasn't worked. We just need to make a decision - are we cool with NK getting that technology or not? If not, there are difficult decisions to be made that would include military intervention.

QUOTE (juddling @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 01:22 PM) Another season of House of Cards is in the books....couple twists I didn't expect. They jumped the shark this last season. Too many things that didn't add up or make sense

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 04:47 PM) I lived this exact moment about a week ago. It's not a court holiday, so I guess that's why we're staying open? The explanation I got from my partner was "welcome to work."
-
For those with a typical 9-5, is anyone else working Monday? I assumed, wrongly, that my office would be closed. We just got the internal memo saying we're open. I'm kinda pissed about that. If Christmas falls on a Tuesday, we don't work Monday. Pretty sure the same goes for New Years.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 01:27 PM) The Bulls front office has been bad for a while. The 1.whatever percent miracle for Rose hid that. Without Rose falling in their lap, they're the Charlotte Bobcats. They routinely turn players and assets into nothing. They hit on one great late round pick and another solid one, but that's the bulk of their resume. Phil was a complete disaster, but even he managed to get Porzingis. Edit- Yes, I know they're the Hornets now. Also, Noah was a solid pick. Gordon and Deng were slightly above average picks. I think Snell was a solid pick (he's an NBA starter at pick #20), and I would still defend the decision to trade up for McDermott (they needed a shooter badly and got the best one in the draft). Some moves don't pan out, obviously that was one of them. To me their biggest sin was not tanking when Rose missed the entire 2011 (or 12?) season. They should have directed Thibs, Noah and Deng to take it easy. If they didn't want to go along with that, get rid of them. It was a terrible decision to not take advantage of that lost year like the Spurs did with Duncan and Robinson. -

So the Cavs had a deal in place to trade Kyrie to the Suns for Bledsoe and the 4th pick, and then they were going to trade the 4th pick for George. All of that was in place but the Cavs wanted a long term commitment from Lebron and they couldn't get one. Sounds like Lebron is as good as gone after next season. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 01:02 PM) Very curious what Clippers are going to do. Obviously LA didn't want to give him a 5 year deal. Seems that some of these front offices are getting smarter in how to handle the veteran players without saddling the team with LT deals. Chris Paul is still a really good player though and his game should age well. I find the move by Houston pretty odd. Paul + Blake + Jordan and a decent player Reddick couldn't come close to beating the Warriors. Houston has what, Paul + Harden + ???? They could re-sign Nene I guess, or try for Melo or George, but that's still not a great roster. Paul gets murdered by Curry when they play. I don't get this move by them. -

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 11:34 AM) Except players have time and time again said they want to play for the Lakers, Paul George being the latest and will likely head there after this season. When was the last time someone came out and said they want to play for the Bulls? Wade?
