  1. Meh, let's be honest, there are no game changers there.
  2. I like it. If Cutler gets time, anyone can become a good WR.
  3. TE Gruden? Did you not look at your notes?!
  4. If they pick Te'o I'm going to puke.
  5. What time did the draft start? 7 or 8? Christ this thing drags on.

  7. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 08:26 PM) Since I don't have NBATV, I can't watch this... CSN?
  8. Yeah we'll see what happens. Congress also didn't just exempt staffers from insider trading reporting either.
  9. LOL, lawmakers want to be exempted from Obamacare: http://www.politico.com/story/2013/04/obam...ides-90610.html
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 10:07 AM) What? Current median SS benefits are ~$15k. Double that, and we're at $30k. I thought that was pretty clear? You used the word "base." I thought in these examples SS would be the only retirement income. Are you saying you'd be fine with 30k total being good enough for retirement? With no other income? I guess I just don't see how that's possible given your belief that 30k a year wouldn't be sufficient for a middle aged adult (and perhaps that's an assumption on my part). I would think retirement workers that you're talking about - the ones that haven't planned properly and still carry a decent amount of debt - would need just as much as that middle aged person especially adding in medical costs.
  11. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 10:06 AM) I'm not sure if it includes something like second-order rental effects e.g. my rental property is subsidized so I can afford to charge you lower rents, but let's go right back to the origin of this discussion: retirees. The median retiree income is somewhere right about $19k IIRC. Many of these people will own a house and might have a mortgage on it but still have very little income. Or it could be in areas of very cheap housing or could be condos (e.g. my in-law's condo that is probably going to sell for $44k). I liked this example from the linked CBPP article: Why should we be subsidizing usury payments to private banks? I understand it benefits higher mortgage amounts more, so why would you want to take away that benefit from the poor/middle class? Isn't it better for the teacher in that scenario to pay 85 cents on the dollar for that interest instead of 100? Don't you think taking that away is going to have a negative impact? I think there are other ways to fund an increase in SS if that's what you want to do. Tax the piss out of the rich. Fine with me.
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 09:51 AM) Yes, I think that would provide a modest, comfortable base retirement income. Middle class americans aren't buying $1M or $750k homes. They also aren't claiming on two homes, like you can now. Why should we be subsidizing a $1M home at all? The benefit goes overwhelmingly to the upper income earners. http://www.cbpp.org/cms/?fa=view&id=3948 And what does that mean? Are you expecting people to save their own money or "invest" it at a risk to fund their retirement!?

  14. QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 08:46 AM) Barbara Bush on possible Jeb run: "We've had enough Bushes" Amen!
  15. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 09:35 AM) I don't see what economic impact would come from eliminating tax subsidies for businesses for 401k's. If they lost that subsidy, they'd most likely just stop offering 401k contributions. Which would be ok from the employee's perspective because they're getting increased benefits elsewhere. Because we all know employers are so generous with their money that if they get nothing in return they'll still give more to their employees.
  16. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 09:28 AM) It's great that you assume future bad-faith arguments as a way to dismiss current arguments that maybe $15k/year isn't really enough to get by on. So should we keep the mortgage interest deduction around because it artificially inflates home prices and does so in a non-linear fashion i.e. more expensive homes get larger deductions and more inflated prices? Is 30k a year enough for retirement? If you answer anything but yes, my point is proven. And yes, we should keep the mortgage interest deduction. That's a pretty significant chunk for middle class Americans that would suddenly evaporate. Put a lower cap on it if you'd like, though I don't think a million is all that unreasonable. I guess you could lower it to $750 or so if you really wanted to and I wouldn't have much of a problem with it.
  17. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 09:22 AM) It takes a lot of fuzzy math and shifting of deductions to do something that it would never actually do. Also, eliminating the mortgage deduction is economic suicide. Yeah really. Great, I get an extra 800 bucks a month in retirement but my house is now worth nothing because the housing market completely dropped. Also, i'm 100% positive that even if SS doubles, or hell, triples, we'll still be arguing that for some people it's simply not enough to live on. I gotta buy my flat screen and smartphone. That data plan is a b**** to afford!
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 11:28 AM) Ahh, I hadn't thought of that...thanks! The interesting thing is the problem seems to have corrected itself as we have gotten further along in season 1...who knows... Maybe it's the disc? Have you tried re-watching early episodes that had the problem?

To be honest, it's been a few years since I've been there. It was my groups hang out spot at least one night a weekend for a couple of years in my mid to late 20's. Back in the day we'd close the bar down and the bartenders would always give us shots for free. There's also a great tradition of taking a shot out of an inflatable sheep's ass for your birthday.

  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 09:19 AM) So I've got my PS3 player running through a Sony receiver (recent model) and then the receiver running to the TV, which has something which is called Audio Return Channel...this essentially allows audio to be sent back to the receiver from the tv. Anyways, everything has been fine up until this point, when I threw in Mad Men season 1 blu ray on the PS3 last night. The audio was slightly ahead of the video and it was driving me nuts. For whatever reason, the audio is being processed by the receiver faster than the video is being processed. I fixed the problem by running the PS3 right to the tv, but that of course ruins the whole point of the sound system if I can't watch Blu Rays using it. Anyone have any fixes for this? I tried turning on the sync features of the receiver, via HDMI control on, as well as A/V sync, and neither eliminated the problem. I also tried playing with the audio settings on the PS3, but could not seem to make a difference either. Just use two different cables - one to the receiver and one to the TV. And then change your ps3 settings accordingly (e.g., video is HDMI, audio is optical or vise versa). Not really a true fix, but that should solve the problem.

High on that chicken. Happened to me many times. While you're near Crisp, I'd also recommend my favorite hole in the wall - Friar Tuck's. It's amazingly bad, yet awesome. And for some reason hot chicks always showed up on Friday and Saturday night.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 23, 2013 -> 03:32 PM) The food at wrigley is terrible, but there are a lot of places to eat right around the park. If you have a specific type of food I can give some recommendations otherwise here are a few places that I like that arent really expensive (about $10 per person) http://www.luckysandwich.com/Wrigley/index.html Sandwich place, there thing is they put the fries in the sandwich. Pretty good, but most importantly, not excessively expensive. http://dimospizza.com/ Previously Ian's Pizza, I have a special place in my heart for it as it started next to my apartment in Madison. Exotic pizza by the slice, not as cheap as the old days, but 2 pieces for $7.50 isnt terrible either. http://www.crisponline.com/crisp.aspx The other 2 places were half a block from Wrigley, this one is maybe 4-5 blocks away. Ridiculously good Korean Fried Chicken. http://dmkburgerbar.com/ Another one that is a little bit further (south), but it has fun hamburgers and once again, is not extremely expensive. Crisp is amazing chicken, voted best in the nation according to some magazines. But it's way more than 4-5 blocks away. It's like a mile away.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 23, 2013 -> 03:50 PM) Welcome to our nation's rape culture. Only for criminals! Reading that article, I wonder why he was able to plead to a lesser charge of misdemeanor assault and battery for two attacks. Must not have been actual rape.
