So, for being on a 17 month break, I expected a little more out of Mad Men. It was ok, but certainly not worth the excitement leading up to its return.
  2. Not sure how I feel about Groce. Good coach but not a big splash
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 25, 2012 -> 06:00 PM) Brad Stevens rumors heating up again. Supposedly he wants the same $$$ package that was offered to Shaka. 1) he's just backing his buddy Groce, or 2) he's playing Butler for more money like Shaka did. I refuse to get sucked into this story until it's out that he's agreed to be the coach.
  4. Tough 5th foul there
  5. Indiana about to lose it here...
  6. Wow, terrible loose ball foul on kentucky there. Three point swing
  7. Ugh, and the refs insert their authority to f*** up this game
  8. Agreed. Exciting pace so far.
  9. Let's see of Kentucky gets in foul trouble early like the first game. If not I don't expect this game to be very close
  10. Unfortunate. UNC has no business winning this game. They look incredibly average
  11. Wow, how do you iso a 2 for 13 guy to win the game?
  12. Roy Williams has to be the most overrated coach in America. How does this much talent play so bad?
  13. seems like these rumors are being based on a couple of podcast hosts out of indy. probably more to create a stir than anything else. Seems like the legit sources say that there's been contact and there might be interest, but no one really knows how much there really is. If he's making 775k a year and they're offering a 2.6 mil/year deal for the same term....not sure how you pass that up given his "dream" schools are locked up for a while.
  14. hmm, twitter rumors abound (some local indiana channel reporter) that Stevens to Illinois is a done deal.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 23, 2012 -> 03:02 PM) Personally, I think too many Illini fans (not ones on this board) have got caught up in finding the right coach to land Jabari Parker and the rest of the Chicago top prospects in the next few classes. Like someone said before, just let Stevens focus on recruiting the rest of the midwest and he should be able to put together a good squad. I do suspect that Howard would leave though, as there's really no point in being an apprentice for a job that should be filled for the next 5-8 years. He's already come out and said he'd stay as an assistant. He's making good money to be a glorified recruiter, and he can learn how to eventually be a head coach over the next several years. Maybe he takes over one day, maybe he moves on. He's got like 2-3 seasons as an assistant, so it's not like people will be clamoring for him to lead a program. His value right now is his recruiting and creating relationships with players, not teaching x and o's.
  16. rumor is that he was offered 8 years and 21 million. #workdayalreadyover
  17. wasn't he the one that said shaka would say yes?
  18. where did you hear this rumor btw?
  19. Oh god, let the 24-48 hours of constant twitter checking begin...
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 23, 2012 -> 01:53 PM) Albert Breer ‏ @AlbertBreer Bears RB Marion Barber announces retirement. Covered him in Dallas. Probably one of the 10 strangest football players I've ever been around. You'd think someone would have picked him up as a back up. He could have made a few more millions I would think. Take way the boneheaded plays last year in the Broncos game and he wasn't all that bad.
  21. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 23, 2012 -> 02:03 PM) So your argument is that it since it's "implied law", it shouldn't need to be codified? How about our judges and juries do their damned jobs and prevent slick lawyers/ambulance chasers from abusing laws as written, or rewrite them to close off any unforeseen loopholes to prevent further abuses? I mean, we wouldn't want do to that or anything. I take offense!
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 23, 2012 -> 01:36 PM) That guy shouting "I'M GONNA CHOP YOU TO BITS" and charging at you with an ax is committing a crime and poses a threat to your life. SYG doesn't say that the situation necessitates deadly force. In fact, by eliminating the duty to retreat, it explicitly allows for situations in which deadly force is not necessary. OMG dude. I'm done with this if you're just going to ignore the statute you're arguing about:
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 23, 2012 -> 01:31 PM) SYG laws completely justify shooting someone 100 ft away who's coming at you with an ax. You have zero duty to retreat. Hell, it's in the name of the laws. Dude, just...ugh. No, it doesn't. (1) what criminal act is that ax-wielder committing? Answer: none. Thus the justifiable shooting statute is inapplicable. (2) is someone 100 feet away causing you, the victim, reasonable fear such that it is a NECESSITY that you use deadly force? No. That's not. And I don't think any jury would agree with you there.
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 23, 2012 -> 01:25 PM) I asked the same questions...besides, do people really think of this when these situations occur, anyways? Well, the law says I have a duty to retreat here...so I'd better try and figure a way out of this...No, people are going to do what comes instinctively in order to survive. What the law is obviously designed for, is to protect those who killed in order to avoid being raped or brutally attacked from having a manslaughter charge levied against them. Unfortunately, good criminal defense attorneys have probably found applications for it that were not fully contemplated by the legislators who drafted it. Agreed. If we take what SS wants, victims are going to need to take an additional step to think about or in fact act affirmatively to avoid confrontation even though they could, in a split second, be killed for it. We're protecting a criminal performing a criminal act from something they should fear whenever they start that criminal act - I'm gonna get shot by this person and die if I do what I'm about to do. I don't see why this is good public policy.
  25. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 23, 2012 -> 01:21 PM) Well I didn't think I needed to explicitly state that the person with the ax was threatening you in some manner and approaching you since we're talking about self-defense. I don't think you're going to find many people who think that it's reasonable to fear someone with an ax 100 feet away such that you'll need to shoot them to escape unharmed/alive. The situation is gonna be that he comes up on you and then it becomes perfectly reasonable to respond in defense.
