QUOTE (Big Sqwert @ May 13, 2011 -> 12:48 PM) Getting basic cable out of the question? Yeah, once my wife and I bought a house and moved to the burbs last year we decided to stop watching so much TV and ended our relationship with cable. We really only watch sports and the occasional AMC/HBO dramas.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 13, 2011 -> 12:35 PM) I like the NFL method of picking a local channel to broadcast cable channel games. I'm surprised that they don't, especially for the Conference Finals...the first in 13 years. Who knows, maybe The U can put together a package in the next two days!

i hate that all of these games are on TNT without any sort of streaming capability. Forces me to go to a bar and spend a ton of money since i'm a nervous drinker during the games.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 12, 2011 -> 02:56 PM) I'd build my team with all of those guys over Kobe. But if it is game 7 of the finals, I want Lebron first, than Kobe, in that order. And No, I can't even make an argument that Dirk and Paul are better than Kobe. I can understand if you want to go with Rose, Dwight (depending on your needs) or Wade, but not the other guys. Especially since Westbrook is better than Paul too. This is a joke right? Lebron wouldn't be my first choice from the Heat, let alone the NBA.

Not to the same degree as these other stories, but have you guys read about these flash mobs? http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2011/05/11/pol...wn-mob-attacks/ Some of the comments are a bit much, but I agree with some - where the f*** are the parents?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 12, 2011 -> 08:57 AM) No, just your arguments against it! A CEO's tasteless presentation has no impact or effect on how the plant is actually run and inspected. And although the NYT article you posted a couple of days ago raises legitimate concerns about the relationship between a regulatory body and the industry it is regulating, I also have a couple of years of first-hand experience from plants around the country. I can't imagine an industry that is more heavily regulated and more safety-conscious. It's almost to the point of causing a paralysis because there is so much paperwork, meetings, checks, walkdowns, re-checks, etc. to get anything done. For industrial workers, it'd be hard to find a safer workplace. One plant is freaking out and banning all adjustable wrenches because one loosened the other week, which caused the wrench to slip off the nut and the guy to injure his elbow. When I see stuff like this first-hand, I just have to shake my head at some of the criticisms of the industry. As an attorney that works in this area (defending), the safety protocols are beyond the norm because of regulations. I just did a plant visit a month or so ago and saw it first hand. I was surprised that they didn't have signs all over the place reminding workers to breathe given the other safety measures in place.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 11, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) Art is of course subjective, but thats why your argument that you need to have the rapper himself state it, was bogus. If I read it and that was my interpretation, it was what it was. Wait, wait. You can't have it both ways. You're telling me that I shouldn't need the poet to explain to me his meaning, but at the same time because YOU interpreted the poem one way, that's the CLEAR AND ONLY interpretation possible? If not, and you're agreeing that people can have a different interpretation, why the big fuss here? Why not just acknowledge that someone took the poem to mean one thing (as they can) and that you can see why that might be an issue? So when he asks his listeners to use "nine-power" he's referring to...? Or his "black strap to make cops run" must be his sharpie writing the poem? How is this relevant to my point?

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 11, 2011 -> 01:54 PM) Jenks, Really, you have to find an interview where the artist explicitly explains what his art means? Come on, your way to intelligent to act like you cant read the lyrics and put the pieces together. The allusion was clear to me and that was on my first reading of the song. Im not sure how people could miss the allusion, but I think that the people who dont want Common in the White House, dont really care about what he said, they care more about the image he portrays (successful rap artist who has the audacity to write lyrics that challenge the establishment in an intelligent and critical way). I dont see what the beef is here. It's art, is it not? Isn't art somewhat subjective? That you and I could look/read/hear the same thing and come up with two different interpretations? I'm glad you're the master of rap poetry, but sorry, I still don't get the reference (and i'm not doubting that it's true, i'm just asking for his explanation). You providing me with the link to some random guy that agrees with you doesn't support your argument that that's what Common himself intended. (Also, still waiting on your response to him advocating peace with all those gun references). I'm not suggesting they BAN him. I've said all along I don't care. But you straight up attacked people who questioned it as if they're just typical GOP soldiers. They're using their 1st amendment right, just like he was. How about the New Jersey State Police Union? I'm guessing they're not GOP backers: http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/NJ-St...-121596869.html

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 11, 2011 -> 01:06 PM) You are right. The Heat did everything they can to blow the game and the Celtics just handed it back to them. The Heat did nothing right to stay in the game on the road in front of a hostile crowd and take it over in overtime. Yes, LeBron did turn the ball over sloppily in a tie game late. That was real bad. But to just point to that one play and say, They can't execute down the stretch is wrong. They did a lot of other things right to win that game. Valid point, but they still escaped that game. They're something like 3-16 in games decided in the last minute.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 11, 2011 -> 12:59 PM) The Heat arent on the same planet as the 90's Bulls. Before we start proclaiming them as champions, maybe they should earn it first? The Heat are good, but if you gave me the choice of facing any of the Bulls championship squads or the Heat, Id take the Heat. It was "King" James before he won anything. He's already promised 8 championships. That's par for the course.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 11, 2011 -> 12:34 PM) Or when Lebron buried the 3 as the shot clock wound down right in front of the Celtics bench? Or when Wade nailed that 23-foot turnaround shot with a defender in his face? Or when Bosh boxed out everyone down low to get the key tip-in to ice the game? Right, after they nearly lost it and the Celtics failed to get a shot off.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2011 -> 12:03 PM) Those offenses are way more effective when run by two of the best talents in the entire league. Plus by your logic, we depend on one guy down the stretch of most close games. That will be even more so in this series when we can't use Korver because of the defensive nightmares it would create for Thibs. The Bulls D is stopping the dribble drive and dominating the paint. That's an advantage they'll have over the Heat that they really didn't have with the Pacers or the Hawks. Hibbert pretty much dominated Boozer/Noah and Josh Smith is doing the same. The way that the Heat play offense plays into the Bulls D. Can you stop them all the time? No. They'll get their points. But you keep them in check and play a sub-90 pt game and I think they win. And I think that series sets up easier for Rose. Like I said before, they have no PG that's going to wear Rose out on the defensive end. If you're going to play Lebron or Wade on Rose fine, you wear them out and you open up a guy like Deng to score big. I think that's where the series is going to be decided. If Deng/Bogans/Korver hit their outside shots, the Bulls win. If not, they won't.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 11, 2011 -> 12:05 PM) But when those two guys are the best player in the league and a top 5-10 player, it's a little different. Also, I'd say they executed well for the most part down the stretch two days ago. You mean in a tie game when Lebron turned the ball over and gave the Celtics a chance to win the game?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 11, 2011 -> 11:20 AM) Yeah, the Heat are the toughest matchup for anyone really, because they are really f***ing good. I don't understand why people think a team whose second best scorer is Tyler Hansbrough is a tougher matchup than a team whose second best scorer is a pick between Wade and James. I'm not arguing that it'll be EASY, but I think defensively the Bulls matchup much better against a team that basically just runs the "Wade/Lebron dribble around and everyone else get out of the way" offense versus teams that actually run an offense and get contributions from all 5 guys. A team like Atlanta is athletic at all 5 positions. Miami doesn't have that. They have 2 superstars and a good player in Bosh. After that they're nothing. If Boston wasn't 500 years old, if Rondo hadn't soared after the Perkins trade half way through the season, and if Allen had shown up to play Boston could have exposed these flaws. But they didn't, and thus Miami looks unbeatable. I don't buy it. They STILL can't execute down the stretch and they still rely way too much on 2 guys. I don't think it's that much of a stretch to say that the type of game that the Pacers and Hawks play (though admittedly the Hawks don't exactly scream offensive efficiency, but they have skilled and athletic players all over the court) is more difficult for the Bulls defensive system, which relies on clogging up the paint and dominating on the boards.

Count me in the group that says the Heat match-up will be better for the Bulls than the Hawks/Pacers and for one reason - point guard. Collins and Teague destroyed Rose on the offensive end and the Heat have no one that can do the same. Not to mention I think it'll be easier for Rose to drive and dish on a guy like Bibby. Obviously Wade and Lebron are huge concerns, but I think Bogans/Deng do a pretty good job of containing them as much as you can. Unlike Philly or the Celtics, their impact isn't going to come as easy. I don't see Wade putting up 28 in a half in a series with the Bulls. Still, this is the conference finals, and the NBA wants as many games as possible. Regardless of how the teams play it'll go 7.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 10, 2011 -> 10:50 PM) The sad part is that Burn a Bush is witty word play with the imagery of the burning bush and Moses with the 10 commandments. He is comparing Bush to Moses, asking how can we follow Bush (like Moses) if Bush is corrupt? He then argues that the govt is trying to keep black people down (his opinion) and that while he is an advocate for peace, he carries a gun for protection. Where have I heard that people should be allowed to carry guns for protection before? Where have I heard the message that Obama is someone we shouldnt follow. Artists shock people with imagery for the most resonance. I'll have to do some internet searching and find a past interview with him where he is referencing Moses. I don't see it. I read it as him saying we need to get rid of Bush because he's corrupt/dangerous, just like cops. Also, I love that he's "advocating" peace by saying use your "nine-power" and "black strap" to make cops run. 2nd amendment supporters don't argue that carrying guns allows them to get back at the "man." There's nothing about "protection" in his poem. Like Malcolm X, he's saying let's remember we have force too. And regardless, my point was this is at least controversial despite how you guys are making it seem. If Bush (or hell, Obama) invited a "poet" that talked about how all gay people are going to burn in hell because of what the bible says, I find it incredibly hard to believe that there wouldn't be some backlash, despite it being "art." And that's all i'm saying - I can see why some people are questioning it. He's the President. He's held to a higher standard. Whoever he invites to the White House is a reflection of the office and by extension the people.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 10, 2011 -> 09:50 PM) Common wrote a song that expressed strong dislike for Bush but wasn't actually advocating for his murder. And the Mumia thing mentioned in the Pajamas Media is pretty popular on the left, especially in circles concerned about racism/minority rights/corrupt police and judicial system. It's not exactly some terrible cause they support, they believe he was wrongly convicted of murder and rail-roaded largely because of his race. Yep, and Malcolm X didn't advocate violence either. GMAFB. Again, I personally don't care, but to ignore this as being a potential issue for the POTUS is ridiculous. Edit: The questionable lyrics:
