QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 04:45 PM) The Wildfire caches aren't rumors; Tyrion used them to great effect already. Doesn't make much sense that Qyburn would be using child-spies to get that kind of information anyway. Yeah I took that "rumor" stuff to mean that the High Sparrow diddles kids or visits whore houses or something similar. Some kind of sinful behavior that Cersei is going to use against him at her trial. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 09:09 AM) I liked it, I'm shocked there wasnt enough gore in that episode for some, because there was tons. Dany finally made it back, so shes moving. We finally have the makings of a war for the north. Arya is finally leaving and Cesei is f***ed. Pretty good all around. I'm wondering what Varys is up to. It was one of the worst episodes in a while for me, mostly because it felt like all of the less interesting story lines that were stuck in place just remained stuck in place or had some unsatisfying conclusions. Dany's arrival was so lame. Oh no everyone, we're in trouble! Oh wait, here's Dany at the most opportunistic moment! Ugh, they're so good at not having telegraphed/cheesy moments and this was such a big fail. It would have been 100 times better if they hadn't done the cheesy halftime speech scene last week and instead had her arrive with Drogon on top of the pyramid. I thought Arya's adventures in Bravos were fine, but it lacked emotion knowing that she was never going to be killed off. You knew she would be the victor at some point. The fact that we didn't see her victory fight was incredibly unsatisfying. Especially since we got so much of the chase scene before it. Riverrun was a gigantic waste of time, other than the Bronn/Pod scene. In the grand scheme what was the point here? Why or how is any of this important to the main story? It also muddied how we're supposed to view Jamie. Is he bad guy through and through or is he a bad guy that is forced to do bad things unwillingly? The whole "i'll do anything for Cersei" puts him right back into the "i'm a bad guy at my core" camp. And it comes after so much time was spent the last couple of seasons redeeming him and making us believe he's not all bad (his convo with Brienne about his life and the mad king, his treatment of Tyrion, etc.),. Again though, what was the point here? How did any of this advance the plot? Cersei is becoming Dany-in-Meereen. Just f***ing get to it already. We all know she's going to get out of it somehow, someway. Her moping around the Red Keep is so boring. -

QUOTE (Nixon @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 10:16 AM) I think Varys is headed to Dorne to set up a friendly beachhead for Dany. Speaking of Dany, they should call this Game of Timely Arrivals. Qyburn and Cersei talking about rumors. In Bran's visions earlier in the season we see the pyromancers preparing the wildfire for Aerys II. Cersei asked Qyburn to check out the old caches of Wildfire said to have been buried around the city. http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Wildfire_plot Didn't Tyrion use that cache for the Battle of the Blackwater fight? -
So AT&T is playing hardball with me about the cost of our internet plan and it has me seriously thinking about switching to Comcast. Up until a week ago I was paying $48/month (total, with all fees included) for 45 mb service. Now they've bumped up that price to $70 and refuse to continue the promotion i've had for the last several years. Comcast has deals for 25 mb ($30/month, plus fees) and 75mb ($50/month, plus fees). For those who have Comcast, does anyone have 25 mb service? Is that sufficient for using 2-3 devices streaming various services via Chromecast? Netflix, Hulu, HBO Now, etc. Or should I get the 75 mb service? I would say it's common for us to have 2 devices streaming at the same time, very rarely 3.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 12, 2016 -> 12:45 PM) I get Greg is the king troll of all trolls, but should an admn really be telling a poster to, effectively, stop being a member of the board? Kinda bush league, dude. Aren't there rules about personal attacks?

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 12, 2016 -> 10:02 AM) He tweeted something before they even released the shooters name. I don't see it, what did he say? Or do you mean he assumed it was a Muslim shooter?

Senseless tragedy. I'm sure Trump will double down on his call to ban Muslims from the country.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 08:14 AM) In a way, the social media takedown of this guy is probably better justice than another few years in jail.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 03:36 PM) I think the fact that the judge was also an athlete at Stanford is pretty damning. Donald, is that you?
-
The whole story is sickening. What makes it worse is that the guy still won't admit what he did and he still claims it was consensual. And the judge seems to have ignored that in his sentencing.

Zero chance. Talk about ruining your legacy forever. I think they start dumping pieces and just pay a ton in tax.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 11:01 PM) I have no doubt she'll murder him in debates. She has incredibly thick skin, he's got incredibly thin skin. He won't have Jeb! to push over either. He's locked in the room with her, not the other way around. On the other hand, she's going to come off as the career politician and he's going to come off as Six Pack Joe. Both will come off exactly as their supporters want them to.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 07:49 AM) https://twitter.com/FaceTheNation/status/739436549842964481 I completely agree that Trump is wrong there, but is it really much different when minorities/women complain about white/male judges ruling on their cases? In fact, isn't the same reasoning used when Presidents appoint women/minorities to the bench? We want their perspective? edit: looks like you're having this debate in the dem thread.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 3, 2016 -> 01:46 PM) The Republicans had power from 77-2003 when some of the worst kick the can decisions were made. The blame game isn't going to make anyone look good. Kick the can politics seem less idiotic when you assume continued population growth, and when that declines it is crippling and looks idiotic. Illinois and Chicago are unlikely to see a population boom, unless global warming destroys the coasts and everyone moves to the midwest for fresh water. We have to figure out what we want to pay our money to. I meant in Chicago specifically, where the majority of the problems lie.
-
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 3, 2016 -> 01:13 PM) Raise taxes with some goddamn transparency and accountability then. People hate paying taxes because of the f***ing politicians squandering money which I am 100% sure Illinois has been doing for a long time. Illinois is broke due to negligence not because there isn't revenue. If they need to raise taxes to cover these pensions they absolutely better be going to that with the notion that taxes are not to be f***ed with for a while. Illinois, that is Chicago is one the highest taxed in the nation, yet they are always broke. That sounds like user error. And who has been in power the longest...
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2016 -> 01:06 PM) The problem in Illinois is that education, transportation and public safety are in huge trouble spots because of the pension disasters attached to them. At some point someone is going to have to get costs under control, or push through a LOT more taxes to pay for them. Every year this gets pushed down the road, the worst the problem is going to get. Chicago has already seen this start to happen locally, and you can see the costs through all of the insane taxes and fees they have pushed through to try to balance things from the decades of Daley just borrowing money for everything. The day of reckoning is coming for Illinois. They might be able to keep kicking the can down the timeline for number of years more, but it is coming. Which is why Rauner is, rightly, telling Chicago to go f*** itself, the state isn't going to bail them out.
-
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 3, 2016 -> 01:10 PM) This article shows Rauner is finally willing to partially play ball. He wasn't before and I think he caved due to the fact he would look mighty stupid if 400,000 kids were not able to go to school this Fall. Good for Rauner for doing his damn job. What is unethical and unconstitutional about the dems budget? The Dems have only passed a budget that' is 7 billion in the hole. Far from balanced, which is not in accord with the Illinois constitution. Now, technically the governor is supposed to submit a balanced budget, but the state assembly isn't working with that, they're doing their own thing.
-
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 3, 2016 -> 11:44 AM) I believe the democratic machine in Illinois needs to be eliminated with extreme prejudice but Rauner is not helping matters by what he is doing. If he continues on this destructive path it will not end well for him. The government has a few basic jobs and one of the most important ones is education. You can try to fight the rest of the pork spending that Illinois has but education and transportation are ones that should absolutely not be f***ed with. Get money to those organizations with compromise and continue the f***ing fight, it's not rocket science unless you're Rauner who is underneath his exterior is a racist and oligarch looking to push the standard republican agenda. The problem is the democrats won't push legislation for partial funding on education. They keep putting it into larger budget bills that are unreasonable, unethical and unconstitutional. Dems also want to screw with the formula for who gets paid what, basically taking money out of school districts that manage their money well and putting it into s***tier school districts. It's not a simple "that rich white guy hates poor black kids!" argument like Emanuel and Claypool are trying to make. edit: I hadn't read this. Who's the one being unreasonable again?: http://www.nbcchicago.com/blogs/ward-room/...l#ixzz4AXVvTFlZ

2016-2017 NCAA football thread

I saw Mississippi State suspended a 5 star recruit a measly 1 game for beating a woman (recorded on tape). SEC! SEC! -
Well that's lame. I didn't know that. If a guest is over they're going to think there's something wrong with the light.
-
Ok home electricians, here's a question: I installed some Ikea under cabinet lights this weekend. The Omlopp LED spotlight kit, 4 lights that plug into a transformer that is plugged into a wall. When I flip the switch, there's a good half second to full second delay before the lights come on. Any ideas why? The old light that was connected to the switch (hard wired) did not have this issue. I took that down and added an outlet and then plugged the transformer into that. No power issues, doesn't matter how many lights are plugged into the transformer. There's still the delay. I'm thinking maybe the transformer is bad? Or maybe the switch somehow went bad coincidentally?

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 3, 2016 -> 07:07 AM) Someone remind me how Rauner got elected? Someone remind me how Madigan continues to rule the state? They passed a budget that was unconstitutional. Rauner is doing the right thing IMO by telling Madigan to go jump in a lake. Standing up to Madigan and his cronies is exactly what this state needs. Sadly, the stupid people of this state will blame Rauner and Madigan will continue to hold all the power.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 3, 2016 -> 07:35 AM) As long as GS stays healthy, this season was over before it began. OKC's chance was GS wasn't healthy. OKC is long and athletic at every position. They play really good defensive at every position. The Cavs don't have that. Kyrie and Love are defensive black holes. How many backdoor layups/dunks did the Warriors have last night? How many times were guys like Barbosa able to get easy runners? That's the difference here. And it still comes down to Lebron being way too passive. In the first quarter, and really all game, he took the ball in the post and got an easy lay up. He was 4-4 or 5-5 to start. But for whatever reason they went away from that. People blame Kyrie for being a ball hog and i'm sure that's partially true, but Lebron is voluntarily giving the ball to him. At some point he just needs to tell his teammates to f*** off, he's going into the post for 10 possessions in a row. It's damn near unstoppable, I don't know why they don't keep doing it. Also, I can't remember the last time Lebron made a jumpshot. I know guys talked about it early in the season, that he was literally the worst in the league at it, but it's crazy how awful his shot is now.
-
That was intentional. Iggy had the ball in his other hand the whole time. Cavs fans better be nervous. Klay and Curry haven't done anything, Lebron, Kyrie and Love have played great, but they're still losing by 6.
