  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 26, 2016 -> 09:30 AM) They don't actually know that the balls were underinflated based on the measurements. That's the whole point. Their procedures and methods were flawed and the data collected invalid. Multiple knowledgeable people have gone through the details of all the things the NFL consultants got wrong and why their "facts" aren't actually proven facts. You can't just disagree with that, it's a fundamentally flawed report from the start. While true, you still have the evidence that Brady likes his balls deflated and he purposefully got rid of a phone that had potential evidence on it. There's enough circumstantial evidence here IMO to hit him with a fine or suspension. And I think Goodell had the authority to do what he did and how he did it. The 1st court decision was a joke. Having said all that, this whole story is ridiculous and its been ridiculous from day one.
  3. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 12:33 PM) Spearia Sand is the one with the spear. Her main personality traits are being angry and b****y. Whippy Sand is the one with the whip. Her main personality traits are being angry and b****y. Daggara Sand is the one with the daggers. Her main personality traits are being angry and b****y. DUH One showed her boobs and likes Bronn. There's a difference!
  4. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 12:20 PM) How is the logical response to: you tried to kill Myrcella Baratheon and start a war with the Lannsiters, but you promised not to do it again, so no punishment, a logical response that makes sense in this show. How does that fit with Doran's character when Doran has had such very limited amounts of screen time. The only thing they really set up about Doran was that he was trying to keep Dorne out of war. So if that's the only motivation we've gotten from Doran, why on Earth would he keep Ellaria and the Sand Snakes in positions where they could try to force Dorne into war? Wait, so your problem is that someone made a mistake in judgment on this show? That Doran didn't appropriately assess the risk that Ellaria posed? Come on... Again, i'm not saying this is a criticism-proof portion of the show, but you're making it sound much worse than it is. Because she blames Doran for Oberyn's death. If Doran hadn't been weak in responding to the Lannisters years ago for Elia's death, Oberyn would not have been forced to do it himself. She's blind with rage over his death. Doran threatened to kill her if she tried anything like that again, she saw his weakness and made a move. What doesn't make sense about that? I mean, that's fair, but that's what you get for introducing Dorne so late in the game. But I think for what they've set up thus far - she's pissed that her soul mate died because of inaction, so she took action - was set up just fine and makes sense logically.
  5. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 11:24 AM) Ellaria makes no sense. In the show, she is introduced as Oberyn's lover. They are not married. She isn't a Martell. In a show where name and claims matter so much, Ellaria having the access she has to Doran makes no sense. She's mother to Doran's nieces and we were led to believe she's basically Oberyn's soul mate and wife if he believed in marriage. They're family. Why isn't that enough? I don't see why that would preclude her from having access. I think they did a well enough job setting up that Doran was taking his sweet time reacting to two family tragedies and was the thinker/plotter of the family. Ellaria finally got tired of it and took the reigns. She's much more like Oberyn in that way. She exacted revenge in a non-Game of Thrones (i.e., thought out) kind of way. So it's different, doesn't mean it's bad or that it doesn't make any sense. Yeah this was silly, although didn't they get caught very quickly? And then Jaime explained who he was? I haven't re-watched last season so I might be wrong. So she did something spontaneous out of revenge, was caught, and told not to do it again. Fits with Doran's character. And I still don't have a problem with access issue. Merging the characters is probably about limiting how many new characters to introduce. Ellaria is the lover of Oberyn, she can hang around while he's a character so we can get to know her, and then later she can play a part in what happens in Dorne.
  6. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 11:12 AM) This. Also of note, by my count we had 9 different plots/locations in last night's episode. And we didn't spend any time with Bran, Sam, or the Ironborn. It's really hard to tell a good story when you can only devote 5 minutes an episode to each plot. With that in mind, the fact that they have devoted so much time to a nonsensical and poorly executed Dorne plot is even worse (or to Tyrion and Varys walking around Mereen), and leads to issues like the one that Crimson points out above. There's a lot of really good last night (Brienne and Sansa linking up, Davos' mutton request, Dany and the Dothraki), but their best episodes have a lot more focus on fewer locations and fewer characters. What's so bad about it? I honestly don't see it. My only criticism is that it seems more like fluff without a connection to the central story, but i'm hoping there's more to come in the future. Everything they've introduced/done with those characters makes sense to me.
  7. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 10:45 AM) She did go bonkers in the book, she just lost in her attempt though and ended up believing in Doran's plan. Considering they didn't get to that point in the show they clearly decided to cut all of that out, which isn't surprising since the whole Quentyn storyline was scrapped in the show. They essentially expedited the ousting of the Martells, now it'll be interesting to see where they do with this, there's still an opening for the Martells to support Dany/Targaryean conquers but there needs to be a bridge to that and Doran was it. Bingo. I don't think Dorne is the greatest but they cut out a lot of fat from the books. Basically all you have to know is there's another powerful family out there, one with Lannister-hate, and now the leading group isn't p****-footing around, playing the game. They're willing to act spontaneously and kill their enemies out of revenge. They also get naked occasionally.
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 08:48 AM) This episode wasnt good or bad, it was just kind of a establishment of storylines episode. Here is where everyone is right now, here is what they are doing, and here is what they are planning on doing. Those episodes are usually a big let down, especially when you are waiting for 9 months Debbie Downer. Why do you always have to be so negative? I thought it was great. Happy to be back in this world again.
  9. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 09:47 PM) The whole story line is s***, and it doesn't seem likely to get better now that it's all resting on Fox Force Five. I thought this episode was sort of a nod to people who hate the Dorne story line in the books. "We're ending this s***, right here, right now." No 15 minute scenes with him watching kids play in a pool. The women are 100 times more interesting anyway.
  10. QUOTE (farmteam @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 07:14 PM) Was this for a federal loan serviced by Navient/Sallie Mae, or a private loan with Navient/Sallie Mae? I recently refinanced my private loans with Sofi (used to be with Navient) but my federal loans are still serviced by Navient. Federal loan serviced by them. How'd the refi process go? Could you pick the term you wanted? I have so many loans, some at 1.5% others at 6%, some paid back in 10 years, others in 20.
  11. I'm not bitter. I'm just pointing out Twitter is annoying with fake praise. And yes, it's fake when it comes to media personalities giving their thoughts on famous people dying. Ric Bucher ‏@RicBucher 51m51 minutes ago Sitting here thinking about the world without Prince, giving thanks we have his music to chase the sadness, hoping he knows how we feel. Because who has thought about Prince in the last 5 years? Anyone? edit: i'm coming from a place akin to what Bill Simmons often says - why don't we celebrate people before they die? Why does someone die and then we spend 3 days acting like they're the most important person ever when the day before they died no one was thinking or saying anything about them? Especially famous people who have been, by and large, out of the public eye for several years. If that dude touched your life and you were a fan, i'm not s***ting on you for saying RIP and it sucks he's gone. It's the over the top, prove to the world i'm more upset than you are, crap that i'm pointing out. And it's all over my Twitter feed right now.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 02:26 PM) It's funny how quickly David Bowie lost his "greatest musician in the history of the world" title. Yep, exactly.
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) Leave it to Twitter and message boards for people to get on their high horse when others want to mourn losing a musician or celebrity they respected when they die. Nah I think it's legit when you can make it personal. But the nonsense like this: "Bill Barnwell ‏@billbarnwell 4m4 minutes ago Imagine being as talented at one little thing as Prince was at so many big things." is just feeding an online persona for followers to make yourself look cool and cultured. Barnwell is a white dude from the northeast. He was probably 10 when Prince was at his peak.
  14. Twitter is intolerable after someone famous dies. So many people going overboard with praise.
  15. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 01:24 PM) Why not just keep paying the same amount instead of the new lower amount? It would achieve the same result of not changing your payoff date and you wouldn't pay any more in interest. That's what I'm going to do.
  16. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 11:54 AM) This is the trailer to the upcoming Magnificent Seven film. It stars Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt. Directed by Antoine Fuquam who did Training Day and Southpaw. Do I think it looks better than Seven Samurai? Absolutely not. I do think it looks better than the original Magnificent Seven and anytime Washington and Fuqua do a movie together it turn out to be pretty good. Good to see a resurgence of westerns. I really liked Bone Tomahawk if you haven't seen it yet.
  17. His first move is signing FA Hinrich to start for and replace the current, $42 million dollar PG.
  18. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 12:40 PM) I'm sure he has a GM/Personnel guy picked out to come on board. Spurs' Asst. GM, according to Woj.
  19. Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojVerticalNBA 6m6 minutes ago Tom Thibodeau is finalizing a five-year deal to become president and coach of the Timberwolves, league sources tell @TheVertical.
  20. Wow, so student loan service companies are f***ing terrible. Does anyone have Navient (formerly Sallie Mae, I think)? If so, be warned. I just got a notice in the mail my monthly payment was being reduced by 25%. I didn't ask for it or authorize it. I emailed them about it asking why and they sent me some BS non-answer that it was to conform to the terms of unsubsidized/subsidized federal loans. So I call them today for an actual answer and it turns out they, without authorization from me, extended the term of the loan by FIVE YEARS to "conform" to new maximum term limits allowed by the Federal Government. I don't even know if that's true, but either way, this company took it upon themselves to extend my loans and collect an extra 5 years of interest off me. What a crock of s***. I had them change it all back to my original payment schedule but I bet 95% of their customers are going to get this letter and be like "oh sweet, i'm saving some money," not realizing their going to pay more in the long term.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 19, 2016 -> 03:21 PM) Yes, the last 5 gyms I have been a member of has separate shower stalls, so does my country club. Open showers have been passe for decades. What locker room is this guy going to walk into? And are we assuming women wouldnt be smart enough to go somewhere else or report someone for just watching them? Are you afraid of lesbians watching your daughters undress? It appears he walked into a Seattle Parks and Rec locker room that had a girls swim team in it.
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 19, 2016 -> 03:11 PM) I mean they can still do that now as well, but its also going to be rare to have gender neutral open air showers at gyms and whatnot. We would see more things like what you see in bars and the like which is single room bathrooms. Private establishments would most likely be able to enforce their own policies. But in the example provided, all the creep-o has to do is say he identifies as a woman and there's not much that can be done. That's the way the law is written. You can't very well have laws that then make this guy prove he's trans, that defeats the whole purpose of protecting his privacy. Re: the bolded, perhaps things have changed in the last 15-20 years, but my high school (brand new in 1999-2000) still had a communal shower room. My gym in college had a big shower room with some curtains, but the locker room itself was still a big empty room with lockers on the outside walls. Someone with experience in private gyms can pipe in, but i'd imagine it's a safe assumption even there you have communal areas where changing takes place. We're not talking about single bathrooms here. Private establishments are still going to have to abide by state law, like the Washington case that was cited. edit: looks like that was a commission that made the rule in that scenario, not the state legislature. Still, if it becomes a state law, private institutions are still going to have to abide by it.
  23. I think it's disingenuous to pretend like people won't abuse this law to be creeps. That said, i'm sure the actual instances of this happening are going to be rare.
  24. Does the detector plug into the cylinder? If so, maybe there's a sensor that is telling you there's a bad connection.
  25. QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 18, 2016 -> 03:34 PM) Except you are smart enough to not just look at it through a vacuum. It leads to much bigger problems. No one is saying the play of Jimmy Butler was the reason the Bulls missed the playoffs, but clearly there are issues here. That line of reasoning would go over a lot better if they were in the Eastern Conference Finals right now. OR, the Bulls have made up their mind on who is going to win the Butler/Rose battle long-term, and are laying the ground work in the media for when they trade him. Limit the potential backlash by fans by making him seem like a tool. Right, but if you look at the progression of the team over the last 4-5 years, this isn't surprising. You've had a rudderless ship for a while now, with different guys trying to steer. First Rose, then Thibs, then Noah and now Jimmy. You have old guys that like the old way, you have young guys that like a new way. The one criticism I do have of Jimmy is that he played too much hero ball when the coaches wanted a more up tempo, free style game. But I think Jimmy (rightly) saw that Rose was terrible and not a passing guard, and no one else could create shots on their own, so he tried to take over games when he was healthy enough to do so. Assuming that's not because of selfishness but because of his awareness that the current roster wasn't capable of playing that way, I have no problem with getting rid of everyone and letting Jimmy lead the next group of guys. I'm just dubious that anything you can get back for him would be worth it. Say you get a scrub and a 1st round pick (unlikely). What are the odds that pick pans out and becomes an All-Star quality player? 10%? 15%? Why risk it? To your last point, I don't think Sam Smith is that kind of reporter. I could be wrong, but that doesn't seem like something he goes for.
