QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 03:09 PM) Dude...throwing your junk and ass (fully exposed) in the face of some girl is way cross the lines of any normal 17-18 year old behavior. I This is actually putting it on there physical face. Yeah, I can't think of that as a "normal" teen prank. And than the actual coverup and lie. What fact pattern they have behind the university trying to blame a black player, but the quotes in this thing are pretty damning (of the lack of evidence between Manning's claims and reality, including lots of first hand responses who all side against Peyton). Its even worse if they tried to actually get another athlete to take the fall for Manning. It's not normal, but again, on a spectrum, it's not national headline news either. The coverup and lie are s***ty, no denying that. I just don't get why we're bringing this up. King is because he thinks Peyton and Newton are treated differently, so he's drudging up past incidents. And for the record I f***ing hate Peyton Manning, and all the Mannings really, so I take no pleasure in "defending" him here. If we don't hear about him or Cam Newton's press conferences from here on out i'd be a very happy person.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 03:05 PM) One big difference in all of that is Kobe took all of the heat and than some at the time of the Colorado incident. I don't recall Peyton ever really having to take any heat for this, so I think that makes the circumstances different. Like I said, I know nothing about the reporter, but if those aren't the facts, they should be canned and never get a job, and if they are the facts, than I can think of a lot of reasons it never grew, whether it was Tennessee looking the other way and/or eventually ESPN knowing that the ultimate piece would not be in there best interest. Just because Ray Rice got a lot of press doesn't mean others don't. And the Ray Rice incident truly blew up because of the video footage (yes the act got him in trouble but it was the video evidence of the act that really pushed things over...now the reality is the video shouldn't have made a difference, but nonetheless it did). Just look at all the stuff Winston has had to deal with and to be frank I'm surprised no one put a comparison between what Manning dealt with related to that incident vs. what Winston deal with for his. I don't know the actual facts and I sure as s*** am not going to read that whole thing (waste of my time) but if there is truth to this, than I think Manning should get raked over the coals for his actions. Should we ignore Cosby for his actions because of statute of limitations, hell no. Random reading about this story (e.g., http://www.foxsports.com/college-football/...brigade-021316) suggests that this was covered in Tennessee back in the day, via papers and the radio. I'm not sure even in 2015 that something like that would be covered nationally. Again, on a spectrum, it's no where close to rape allegations. It's a terrible prank, and at least originally, it sounds like what exactly happened (mooning vs. full on mushroom stamp) was debated.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 10:34 AM) ESPN has and will coverup articles to protect certain elements and they will likely continue to. Of course the one item I know about them keeping quiet (covering up might be the wrong word, rather decide not to cover), isn't near to the extent of what is happening here. You'd think Sports Illustrated or a competitor would be all over something like this though (if there were serious legs to it). The article was pretty damning (presuming all the information contained within it is true). According to Whitlock (consider the source), the writer of that article is a known liar. He's a white dude that complains all the time about treatment of black athletes. Apparently Whitlock was going to hire him for his ESPN site but they couldn't substantiate a lot of stories he told, so they moved on. edit: this was all on the dan patrick show this morning. The whole thing was a hitpiece that brings up crap from 15 years ago. And the underyling premise is that the media doesn't talk enough about white athletes like they do black athletes. Of course the huge missing component to that argument is the coverage of Kobe Bryant. This is his swan song season and i've not heard or read a word about Colorado in any of the stuff about him. He was celebrated last night, just like Peyton was celebrated after the SB. Pretty similar treatment. second edit: and really, it looks pretty bad and it's pretty terrible, don't get me wrong, but it's the dumb, immature prank of a 17-18 year old putting his junk on a trainers face. Quite different from other acts we've seen and heard about, like some girl getting raped by a star QB and the entire school and community laughing her out of town.

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 10:26 AM) While I'm not sure how I feel about the Manning stuff, it's amazing how little airplay it is getting on ESPN. Just more proof ESPN is an arm of the NFL. Come on, they covered the s*** out of Ray Rice, DeflateGate, etc. None of those were favorable stories for the NFL.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 01:25 PM) He's clearly stated he is a democratic socialist. I'll admit, every voter base has their complete buffoons. Bernie's are no different. I do think it's disingenuous to say he's a socialist as a boogie man scare tactic though. He's as close to a socialist as you're going to find in 2015 America. Whether its democratic or not, it's still "the state will provide."

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 01:22 PM) There are some who won't. Kasich supported the Medicaid expansion and that makes him more or less equivalent to a Democrat to some on the far, far right. It only takes a few thousand in Florida or North Carolina to stay home on election day to swing the election. Kasich certainly wouldn't take Cruz, but he would need to take somebody that Cruz supporters would like. You know what though, if anyone ever covered him he had a great response to that. He basically said, I don't support the expansion but who the hell turns down a free check of XX to their state? And Kasich is viewed as a moderate and establishment. Trump is not. That's a huge, huge component to where the fringe Republican base is these days. They want an outsider. Someone who isn't DC. And Trump is certainly not DC.

Antonin Scalia passes away
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 01:20 PM) Democrats hypothetically being hypocritical over the matter doesn't mean it isn't unfair or unethical. The Senate's job is to filter out bad candidates, not completely block the President's responsibility to nominate people. Can an opposition party categorically refuse to confirm anyone over a 4, or 8, year term? Yes, they can. That's their power under the Appointment Clause. What's the point of having that power if they're supposed to just rubber stamp whoever the President picks?

For the record i'm 100% kidding about the Bulls getting Durant or that GarPax should be criticized for not getting him. That's in direct response to the ridiculous position that Ozzfest and others have maintained in this thread and the other thread.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 12:17 PM) Looking at what the team will be...we dont' have a compelling reason to attract Durant here. If GarPax fails to sign him, it'll be another indictment on their abilities. FIRE THEM NOW. also: (1) Gordon should have won. Or they should have been co-winners. The hoverboard dunk was one of the coolest things i've ever seen. (2) Pretty funny how the 3 pt contest (also amazing) was the marquee event and everyone (including me) was wondering why we even have a dunk contest. And then 30 minutes later the dunk contest was the best or second best dunk contest ever. Not only did those guys do amazing dunks, they did them OVER AND OVER again, without missing (mostly). (3) The game sucked, I stopped after the 1st quarter, but there were still some amazing plays made by Lebron, Westbrook and Durant.

Antonin Scalia passes away
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 06:38 AM) 2008 Chuck Schumer: We must oppose any Bush SC nominee 2016 Chuck Schumer: The Republicans are horrible for saying that they should oppose any Obama SC nominee Go f*** yourself, Chuck. Yeah, anyone upset at Repubs over this are just fooling themselves. Flip the switch and they'd be doing the same thing. That's their right. They get to confirm an appointment. That's how the rules were set up. There's nothing unfair or unethical about it. I will say it was dumb of McConnell to come out right away and say we won't confirm anyone before Obama has said a name. They'll look really stupid if Obama appoints one of the recent judges that were confirmed unanimously. As to Scalia, he was one of my favorite Justices ever and he was just flat out brilliant. Two key things that the SC will miss going forward - (1) someone who can write opinions with humor and not have their head up their ass, and (2) the basic premise that the legislature legislates for the people and 9 people in robes do not. Was he 100% consistent over his tenure? No. But no justice is. He was consistent for the vast majority of his opinions and that's the best you can do.

Antonin Scalia passes away
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 14, 2016 -> 11:05 AM) Justice Wainwright @JusticeBlaine 15h15 hours ago Antonin #Scalia requested cremation in his will, but millions of women will meet tomorrow to discuss if that's really best for his body. Be offended if you'd like, but I think that's a quality tweet . I didn't realize he was carrying a living being inside of him.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 10:55 AM) Is the pattern that she's actually been in public policy for 30 years, while Sanders was in the corner, holding hands with a bunch of coffee shops in burlington? Sort of ignores the entire Clinton-ethos, which is to ride the wave of public opinion. Bill did it, Hillary did it in Congress, and she did it/does it as a Presidential candidate. You may take that as a sign of someone who's been in the game for a while, or someone who has righted their wrongs, others, including undecided voters, may view it as a flip-flopper who really has no base principles that guide her beliefs/actions.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 04:39 PM) I know, I made the point too that it's ridiculous to blame hoiberg for. but I can't sit back and have people defend Kahn's tenure as Timberwolves GM. It was a hilarious reign of bad. Who is doing that?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 02:10 PM) He is not the GM, he is the head coach. And lets not pretend like everyone knew Curry was going to become possibly the best shooter in the history of the league when he was drafted. I fault GarPax for not knowing that. They should have built a time machine so they would know which players were going to be stars in every draft, and then do everything possible to get them. Ugh, they need to go.

QUOTE (ozzfest @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 12:58 PM) Hoiberg was the GM that took two point guards ahead of Steph Curry. He drafted Johnny Flynn and Ricky Rubio. I don't think I want him running the show...Soxtalk will eventually realize that John Paxson is the head of the snake. As long as Paxson is still running anything. The Bulls have no shot. Wasn't that Kahn?

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 10:37 AM) That's odd, didn't know you needed to prove that. You do in state court too. Judges usually ask about occupation, salary, debts, etc. Some require forms to be filled out.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 10:37 AM) You don't need one, but it sure is nice to have one. Minnesota is just one example. You could also say that Lynch played a big role for Seattle. It can be nice, but if you're deficient somewhere else, that should be the focus. There are a bazillion RB's that are serviceable in the NFL.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 10:31 AM) I don't think Langford is gonna be as good of an all-around RB as the Bears think. His drops concern me. Also, his blocking is nowhere near as good as Forte's. I think he'll be fine rushing-wise, which is thankfully most important for a RB, but his pass catching and blocking won't compare to Forte. You don't need a good RB in this league anymore. How many SB's has Minnesota won? It gets proven every year: to win the SB you either need a hall of fame QB with a decent defense, or you need a great defense with an average QB. Everything else is just filler.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 12:55 PM) You know, of all people, I just live with it from him. As long as he plays aggressive when he's in. Right now, he's on pace for I think 70 games (*knock on wood*). Given where he's coming from, that is a good thing. And I still stick to my theory that post ASB Rose will be the best Rose anyone has seen post surgery. I'm curious if Butler being out will spark it or not. Reality is, only way Bulls don't keep losing is if Rose really puts this team on the back (something he has not really had to done since he went out with his initial injury). Does anyone think all these struggles make it more likely that the Bulls resign Noah (the true leader). Noah should be far more of a value too, given the fact that he's coming off injury. I love Jo, but he's not a complete player, and it absolutely kills this team. It's 4 on 5 with him out there, even when healthy. They need to look elsewhere. Same with Pau. The rumors about resigning him for 20 million is absurd. Find the next superstar to pair with Butler. Hope Portis develops into a Taj-like contributor. Hope McDermott can hit open shots. Hope Mirotic plays with a brain. And then draft well.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 12:48 PM) Yeah. When I say didn't like, I think pau had issues with Thibs style, but he also benefited from it. I think Butler would take over this team, but you do have the issue with Rose being there. If Rose was gone, I kind of think Jimmy could be that true leader, but with Rose here, it is that uncomfortable...if Jimmy says something Rose still has some of that persona from his past. Makes it awkward. I'm interested to see how Rose does with Jimmy out though (do we see more progress with him and do we see more of that "alpha" come out? Pssh, f*** no. He just sat out a game for being "sore."

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 12:46 PM) The funny thing is Pau played better under Thibs last year than he did his last few years in LA (some of that was actually being healthy) and he hasn't played any better this year under Hoidberg than he did last year. Pau sulked his way through those last years in LA. I don't give much credit to Thibs for that. He also became the #1 option on offense for the most part last year. He could take 18 footers all day long under Thibs. But of course that was the problem come playoff time. They had no other options because Thibs sucked as an offensive coach.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 12:42 PM) What benefit was there to clammor for him to stay? Jimmy has made it clear he was a believer. Rose and Thibs were always close and I don't recall Taj or Noah being happy. I don't know that Mirotic would know any better and while Doug might have been upset he was hurt so it is a moot point (and Thibs supported Doug's drafting). Pau is the one outlier who did not like Thibs (and it isn't a shock since Pau is pretty low key and largely used to being coached by Phil who was very low key in the grand scheme of things). I'm dubious about Rose and Thibs' relationship. A couple of weeks ago Rose said he hadn't spoken to Thibs since he was let go. What's that tell you? I think Taj is the only guy that was vocal about liking Thibs. Even Jimmy to a certain extent seemed to tire of him. Noah definitely. And Pau was probably never a fan based on style of play.
