  1. My takeaway...despite a few injuries and underperformance from several individuals, this team is going to be really good if they stay relatively healthy. Consider the following MLB ranks and understand, if they sustain this all season, wins will most certainly follow (alot of them); Offense - 5th in FWAR and wRC+ Pitching - 7th in fWAR and xFIP, 5th in FIP Run differential - 5th Truth is the advanced metrics tell the story of a 6-2 or 5-3 team, not 4-4. However, SSS and close late inning blown leads have resulted in a 4-4 record. Those things will even out over 162.
  2. Might as well just put them out of their misery and close up shop now since no one cares about baseball anymore. Surprising a multi-billionaire like Cohen would invest an enormous amount of money in an irrelevant, dying sport.
  3. ^exactly why MLB won’t experience a significant decline in interest if a player like Tatis Jr isn’t on the field. Because there really isn’t one player in the MLB that has that type of impact, unlike say the NBA or NFL.
  4. Why does he have to be any of those guys? Yes, Tatis Jr is an exciting young player but he’s far from a household name at this point in his career and MLB will be fine without him. Admittedly, I would find some enjoyment in the irony of a situation where he becomes a financial burden to the Padres if he can’t stay on the field. I never root for injuries but I’d feel much worse for Tatis Jr if he wasn’t just guaranteed $340M.
  5. No offense, but the Tatis comparison to Mahomes is terrible. There are many casual baseball fans that don’t even know who Tatis is, especially if they follow an AL team. Every football fan knows Mahomes and many non-football fans have heard of him too.
  6. Wouldn’t it be ironic if the Tatis acquisition does more long term harm than good to the Padres organization? Meaning they just handed this dude $340M and he becomes a major financial burden moving forward because he can’t stay on the field? Can’t say I’d feel sorry for them either.
  7. They haven’t even played their best baseball yet and have the third highest run differential in the AL. While fans focused on the negatives over the first week, it’s apparent to me that this is the most talented White Sox team since the 90s.
  8. Can I please get an update on these numbers?
  9. Best 1/2 combo since Sale and Q but that rotation was largely crap after those two. This staff is deep (if they stay healthy) and still has two young live arms lurking in the pen if needed to start games late in the season.
  10. I’m confused. We’ve scored 6 runs in less than 6 innings and the Royals haven’t pitched a lefty yet. This is weird.
  11. Fully rested pen with Cease on the bump Saturday and offense facing a LHP. I like this setup!
  12. I haven’t been this excited about a Sox starting rotation since 2005. And just imagine, Kopech and Crochet aren’t even in it yet
  13. Lynn is making this much esteemed Royals offense look silly
  14. 100% agree. Changed the entire look of the rotation. That combined with a newly motivated Rodon.
  15. Who needs Eloy when you have the Yerminator?
  16. But they cAn’T HiT RiGhTiEs
  17. Pretty good start for Lynn...
  18. .749 was slightly above league average OPS last season. So slightly above average against righties and top 2 against lefties sounds like enough offense “to contend” if the pitching is as good as anticipated.
  19. .749 was slightly above league average OPS last season. So slightly above average against righties and top 2 against lefties sounds like enough offense “to contend” if the pitching is as good as anticipated.
  20. Sample size of 4 and 3 games, respectively. Do you also think Jose is going to hit .207 or Yermin is going to hit .565 this season?
  21. I know fathom cares about the cubs very much so I included that in jest. But in all seriousness, who cares if they’re average against righties if they still have a top 10 offense in MLB? I believe this pitching staff will be top 10 by year end. How many other teams do you expect to have a top 10 offense and pitching staff? Only teams with World Series aspirations.
