But in all seriousness, goes to show you what a difference having one or two guys back in the lineup can make. Hopefully get Eloy back soon but just having Moncada back with Timmy again while Abreu and McCann continue doing their thing has made this a formidable offense. Just wait until they add Robert, Madrigal, and hopefully a big free agent bat for next season.

Sox might not lose another game this year at this rate.

I didn’t phrase it well. My question was where would his current wRC+/ OPS rank at DH. You answered it. He’d basically be average for that position assuming his production this season carries forward. I’m really hoping for better than average, which is why I’ve been on the JDM bandwagon for awhile (with Castellanos as the fall back option (he has a longer track record than Narvaez and same age).

How well does a 800 OPS translate at DH in terms of wRC+? Honest question because I’m really hoping for better than that next season out of our DH (as I said in previous post I believe Abreu will be back as the 1b and yes I know the horrific DH production this season for the Sox)

Would you carry 3 catchers on the roster next season? I’m taking McCann and Collins over Narvaez next year and beyond. I’m really hoping we see a dramatic upgrade at DH next season, someone better than Narvaez. As much as everyone wants Abreu at DH next season, the Sox have no better option at 1b so he’s going to be there again.

I’d bet there’s a higher probability that Collins is the more productive player of the two when this team is a contender. The Sox didn’t give Collins a fair run earlier this year in the bigs but his offensive track record in the minors is far superior to that of Narvaez. Of course, that doesn’t guarantee success in the bigs but I’m willing to wager he’s the better bet when this team needs that LH hitting backup catcher/1b/DH starting next season. I’m sorry but Narvaez was awful behind the plate. In the limited time I saw Collins this summer, he already looked better defensively than Narvaez.

Weren’t @fathom, @Balta1701 and @Moan4Yoan saying earlier this year that his defense vastly improved? Maybe I’ve got the wrong posters but there were at least a few saying that and many saying that trading Narvaez was a mistake. Truth is, he’s a DH.

I hope so but right now I’d peg it at a 30-40% chance he opts out. Really depends on how he finishes over the next 30 games. But I’d love to bring in JDM on a 3 year deal if he did opt out.

I bumped the thread I started back in April projecting the future Sox lineup in case you’re interested. Looks pretty ? still. Worth noting that April was also before Robert and Madrigal really took off, Yoan and Timmy were only showing early glimpses out what they would become, and Vaughn hadn’t been drafted yet.

Also, since JDM likely won’t opt out and it’s clear Abreu will still be on the team for a couple more years at least, replace JDM with Abreu. Not quite as impressive but still a damn strong lineup (and hopefully they slide Abreu down to #5 in that scenario). If they can figure out RF, I’d argue in another 20 months there isn’t a single glaring hole in that lineup, barring injury,

Very little has changed since April 19th. 2021 lineup is still very well intact, except I’m not as confident JDM will opt out as I was 4 months ago and yes RF is still a black hole (damn you Jerry for not breaking the bank on Bryce).

Looks like our old friend Narvaez has plateaued from an fWAR perspective (lower now than he was in May) while McCann is still going strong. I wonder what a 2 year deal for McCann would look like this winter, buy out next year’s arbitration and tack on an extra year of control after that.

I remember back in March/April, the board complaining about how the White Sox “killed Moncada’s value” by moving him to 3b. Meanwhile, in his first season at 3b he’s on pace for 5.4 fWAR (in just 125 games). I’d say that’s pretty valuable. As far as ceiling, 8 fWAR (aka best 3b in MLB) sounds about right.

All he does is hit (and play great defense and run the bases extremely well). I guess he’s ok.

Yea, you can take the .213 BA, 765 OPS hitter trending downwards quickly and I’ll take Abreu. Smoak and his career 745 OPS does indeed suck.
