I wonder if Frasso + Liranzo + Knack + Hurt could work for both sides. Very pitching heavy but all three pitchers would be ready to contribute starting this year.

Hell, the Sox may have more top 100 prospects than the Orioles after Cease is traded (if traded to Orioles). I realize they’re not as deep after that but still pretty cool.

Yes sir. I completely agree. We don’t need a couple guys that maybe turn into ok regular mlb players. Doesn’t move the needle. We need the potential for an impact player and the best way to acquire one with Cease is exactly what you described.

The LOL re: Clevinger goes beyond the stats. The guy is a douche and a clubhouse cancer imo. There’s a reason he’s still available and was available for cheap for the Sox last offseason.

With Heyman mentioning the Dodgers still in pursuit of Cease, how would people feel about an all pitchers package of Frasso+Stone+Ferris? Personally, I would love it.

This is where I’m at. Also, after getting screwed on the draft lottery I’m of the opinion that it’s not the end of the world if they try to compete this season. And by compete I mean try to win perhaps one of the worst divisions in mlb history. Might only need 84 wins to take the Central in 2024. It’s unlikely but crazier things have happened. Lots of ifs but if Cease and Kopech return to 2022 form and if Fedde is Mikolas 2.0, that’s a solid top of the rotation. Still not sure where the offense is going to come from but perhaps with a decent pitching staff and good defense they can hang around .500 into July.

Certainly possible and that’s the risk you take. But if you’re getting shitty offers now it’s not much of a risk anyways imo.

? if the offers are even worse than the Cole return, which it sounds like they are, hold onto him and (1) see if he pitches well in the first half of the season and trade him in July or (2) if he pitches well and the team is playing better than expected (unlikely I know but the ALC sucks) keep him and make a run at a very bad division.

It’s also why Elias would be a fool to hold onto all of his prospects and not trade for an established starter while that team is in their contention window.

I’m always an advocate for acquiring pitching so I loved the Eaton trade at the time. Quantity and quality. Still can’t believe they got that much for Adam Eaton.

Right and it was still an epic flop. Some are advocating that Getz accept one top 100 guy and a few fill ins, which is apparently what’s been offered to date. What’s the rush to accept that? 50/50 odds that type of package amounts to a zero at the end of the day. Might as well wait until July if that’s the case.

And let’s be honest, if the offers are underwhelming it doesn’t matter anyway. Look at what the Pirates got for Cole back in 2018. Musgrove was serviceable but the rest was garbage. Didn’t move the needle and pretty much comparable to zero at the end of the day.

I don’t consider either of those pitchers premium prospects. 45 FV prospects that don’t move the needle. Sox have plenty of those.

Yes! This is my ideal package. If we can pry Jones + Hampton + Lombard or Arias or Warren from the Yankees that would be fantastic.
