Orioles Acquire Corbin Burnes for Ortiz/Hall/34th Pick
$15M AAV isn’t a big free agent contract. Sure, for Jerry it is, but for real major market teams that’s nothing.

Orioles Acquire Corbin Burnes for Ortiz/Hall/34th Pick
Sure but that rotation would have a fangraphs projection of 10.0 for the 2024 season even with questionable 4 and 5. Swap Soroka for Kopech if you want to move Kopech back to the pen and it bumps up to 10.4. Not bad, especially in a terrible division it would likely be tops. Defense has improved. Then you’re just hoping and praying for a league average offense, which of course we’d need big final year contract seasons out of Moncada and Eloy for that to have a chance. Add Soler for RF. Even after those 3 moves the payroll would still be at a very reasonable level for this season and beyond. I know, dreaming (only because Jerry is the owner).

Orioles Acquire Corbin Burnes for Ortiz/Hall/34th Pick
With no one in the AL Central actually wanting to win the division in 2024 (division favorite just made a trade to hurt their 2024 mlb roster), it’s a real shame Jerry doesn’t just say f*** it and open up the checkbook to sign Montgomery and Ryu. Obviously not going to happen but a starting rotation of Montgomery/Cease/Ryu/Fedde/Kopech would be quite formidable.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Why is it Orioles or bust? I doubt the Yankees are done adding to their starting rotation.

Packers at Lions with a Super Bowl bid on the line would have been amazing. Damn.

I mean they went blow for blow on a short week on the road against the best team in the NFC that was coming off a bye. I never expected that. Crazy that if they pull that game out they’re likely headed to the SB (I think they beat Detroit). Also crazy that they actually looked like the better team up until the Carlson missed FG.

I’m just shocked they even had a chance to win this game. Didn’t expect them to make the playoffs let alone go toe to toe with the loaded 49ers.

Sox looking at building in South Loop
I’m a civil engineer and worked in commercial land development to start my career. He’s not wrong that soil management costs may be very high given prior land use but the developer should have a good idea of what they’re dealing with before they purchased the land. Saying that you won’t know what you’re dealing with until you put a shovel in the ground is not true. To the penny? No but order of magnitude - yes.

This isn’t true. I’m sure this has already been assessed to some degree. Geotechnical and environmental soil borings sampled intermittently throughout the site will give you a good understanding of the soil characteristics from both a structural and environmental perspective. Guarantee this has been done on some level already.

John Brebbia signs with Sox, Romy DFA'd/claimed by Red Sox
Any Cease implications here? Or completely independent? Adding another $5.5M arm sure seems like they’re still trying to reinforce the pitching side of things for when Cease is traded.

Cease To Padres per Passan
I actually kind of like Cowser but I can tell you all are afraid he’s Stowers 2.0 and that’s why very few are opposed to including him in deals. He’s still not a strong enough headliner to land Luzardo, sorry.
-
Cease To Padres per Passan
They certainly aren’t headliners for a cheaply controlled young #2 starting pitcher either!

Cease To Padres per Passan
For the tenth time, spare parts will not net you Luzardo. No lies, just facts. That deal starts with Mayo or Basallo (yea, I already know you disagree which is why I’m laughing)
-
Cease To Padres per Passan
Sorry but their spare parts will not net them Luzardo. But you do you.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Better odds of happening than the Orioles trading Santander and spare parts for Luzardo ?

Cease To Padres per Passan
I love AJSS. High ceiling and made a big jump on the BA and MLB updated prospect lists. I’m not sure about Kelenic though. I’d rather avoid him especially with his arb clock well started by now. I’d love a deal headlined by AJSS and Waldrep but doubt Braves would part with both, especially after trading for Sale.

No doubt about it. Luzardo starts with Mayo/Basallo. But clearly they think the spare parts package is good enough lol

Thank god Orioles Hangout has moved on to Luzardo as their primary trade target. They’re debating the value of Santander in a trade for Luzardo lol. Good luck with that exercise fellas.

Cease To Padres per Passan
They laugh at the thought of missing the playoffs this year but I can easily see a path to that happening with the way the team is currently constructed.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Just pulled up an old article after the Sox traded for Cease in 2017. That trade gave them 9 MLB top 100 prospects at the time lol. But Orioles fans are certain they have a very long contention window playing in a far tougher AL East. Ok.
-
Cease To Padres per Passan
Easily. And Cease was a far better prospect at the time than Enrique Bradfield too.
-
Cease To Padres per Passan
Ah, I was thinking he was a FA after 2019 but you’re right that he had another option year in 2020 that the cubs would have done better not picking up.

Cease To Padres per Passan
(I’m waiting for @Sports Guyto argue that the Mayo package is substantially better than the Q return -it’s not- or that Q was a much better pitcher than Cease- he wasn’t)

And for the record, the package of Mayo + Bradfield + Povich is on par with the package the Sox received for Quintana in 2017. Yes, Quintana had an extra 0.33 seasons of team control but I’d argue cost efficient starters are in even greater demand today than they were in 2017 given the rule changes since then (specifically the luxury tax rules) and overall inflation of player salaries.
