We need a RF. Quentin looks like he hurts himself running now. He is just too injury prone, and not that good defensively in the first place to be out there everyday, and he would greatly benefit from being a full time DH. Now, the question is, who do we bring in to play RF? Jayson Werth and Corey Hart are the two biggest names out there, but both would cost A LOT to get and each have their own concerns. What about any other names that could be intriguing? Discuss.

I'll admit, I've never been a huge fan of Bobby, but his post game comments were ridiculous today and just because of them, he should take a role as middle reliever for a while. "I didn't have it," closer Bobby Jenks said after failing to retire any of the four batters he faced and ending a streak of 15 save conversions. "My cutter was coming back. My sinker wasn't sinking. The slider was big. I just didn't have my stuff." So f***ing what Bobby? Not every pitcher is gonna have his good stuff everyday. This is just a p**** ass excuse by you and everyone knows that. You f***ing stunk today. And just because your stuff was flat doesn't mean you have to walk the first two batters. If you throw strikes, you will always have a shot. There's just no need for players making lame ass, p**** excuses like this. Bobby, take a seat for a while.

In all seriousness though, that was easily one of the worst throws I've seen. I have no idea why he was aiming for the 3rd base dugout and not home.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 02:23 PM) Well...as slow as the first 2 games of this series were going with the 17 dozen visits by Mauer to the pitcher, I'm not sure I'm mad about it. I understand and I think commercials are the bigger problem, but still, its no fun to tune in and see that somehow someone got on. It ruins the flow for people following at home. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) I think I'd still take him ahead of Kotsay/Jones. Oh, who wouldn't? But the thing is, we already got someone who is a huge injury risk in Quentin. We would definitely have to get someone in here who we could rely on. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) You did. He's complaining that the umps aren't giving the required time between innings so WGN keeps missing the first pitch of each inning. He said the same thing yesterday. Okay, thanks for clarifying that for me. Hawk has a legit complaint then. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 02:20 PM) Berkman told the media today he's not even close to 100% healthy. He's damaged goods right now. I didn't know that, cross him off the list then. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 02:18 PM) Huh? That's not what he was complaining about. I don't know, I thought I heard him complaining about the umps again. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 02:15 PM) Absolutely, but we're already hearing excuses for why Jones/Kotsay are going to stay on the roster. I'm definitely of the opinion that it's time to move Beckham back into the 2nd spot. I actually really want Lance Berkman because I think he'd be a great fit for this team, but the problem is we need a RF now, and I doubt Berkman can play RF anymore. Also, Quentin needs to stop shaving. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 02:13 PM) Yep, I'm surprised Quentin didn't blow out his knee on that stride. Yeah, that was ugly. Injuries have really slowed him down because he should have made that easily in the past. And Hawk, STFU, its not the umpires who are leaving runners on base for us. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 02:13 PM) Against this pitcher though, a hit and run would have been a decent idea. yeah, but not on 0-2. Gardenhire ain't stupid, he knows there's a stolen base threat on first base, of course you are going to waste a fastball high or outside on 0-2. -

dumb, dumb, dumb idea to steal there, especially on an 0-2 count. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 12:39 PM) I'm sure you'd come up with a great nickname for him. with a name like that, there's is no need for a nickname.
-
Now, I'm not gonna act like I'm an expert on Rockin Robin, because quite frankly, I was too young to know how he was when he first came up, but from what I've heard, he was awful at 3B when he first came up... but he eventually became a stud at the hot corner.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 11:28 PM) I just think we need a big hitter WAY more than we need to replace Hudson I agree for the most part, but Haren is damn sexy.
-
I would be willing to a shot at him depending on the price, but I see the Yankees saving him to move in a bigger deal or just try and fix him by themselves. Champerlain has proven to be one of the dumbest pitchers in baseball though.
-
Thank god Morneau is out with injury.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 07:36 PM) This is not stupid logic, this has been proven by decades of play by play data. Does this play data take into account the fact that for decades teams have been batting their best players 3rd and 4th, and thus causing the 4th and 5th hitters to obviously have more AB's with runners on (considering the best hitters usually have the higher OBP on the team)? Sorry to beat a dead horse, but just got back from an errand I had to run. Go Sox!
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 07:17 PM) You seem very angry tonight. You ok? Haha, I'm fine. I guess it's just been a long week and going through baseball withdraws.
-
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 07:17 PM) Beckham has been hitting the ball lately. I would rather have Beckham and Omar playing defense and Viciedo in as the DH and Kotsay waiting to pinch hit. I wouldn't go writing home because of 1 series vs. the Royals, but you are probably correct.
-
Actually, we'd be best off with Vizquel at 2B and Viciedo at 3B, but Ozzie would rather play Beckham in hopes that he remembers how to hit, regardless of who gives us the best chance at winning.
-
QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 06:38 PM) The 3-hole hitter does get a guaranteed 1st inning PA, but often it's with 2 outs and nobody on. But more importantly, I'm really excited that real baseball's back. So according to this logic, it is more important to save your 2 best hitters for the 2nd third of the lineup so in case you do go down 1-2-3 in the first, you can open up the 2nd inning with your best hitter followed by your second best? That makes no sense. And even if the 3 hole hitter goes up to bat with 2 outs in the first, at least he has a decent chance of getting on base for the 4th hole hitter.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 05:49 PM) That's a myth that's been broken. The best place to put your best hitters are the 4th and 5th spots. Those guys end up with the most amount of men on base when they go to the plate. Obviously, you'd like to have your best hitters hit with men on base to maximize their runs driven in. This is just stupid logic. Yeah, odds are your 4 and 5 hitters will wind up batting with the most runners on, but they also bat behind the 3 hole hitter (and 4 hole for the 5th hitter). Your best 2 hitters should be 3 and 4, where they get the most AB's possible. Its the duty of the 1 and 2 guys to get on base. Why wouldn't you guarantee one of your best hitters an AB in the first inning?
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 04:14 PM) No Morneau. Somebody should really tell Gardenhire that Cuddyer is not a good guy to put in the clean-up spot. That's the spot for your best hitter. Their best hitter is injured, and Mauer is their no. 3 hitter, a role he fits perfectly and shouldn't have to be moved from.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 04:34 PM) That's entirely a function of his changeup. That's BS, as a good change up gets anyone out regardless of which they bat. However, you do have to locate the change up on different ends of the plate depending on what type of movement you have. With Danks, I believe it's more of a fact he doesn't use his change up as much and doesn't locate it properly vs. lefties.
