QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 31, 2008 -> 03:42 AM) I don't...he has much more value to this team than Pablo Ozuna does. If anything, I hope he's DFA'd. I disagree strongly. Ozuna at least offers some offensive potential and while his D might not be as good as Uribe's, he has played a fine 3B in place of Crede. Could we upgrade on Ozuna? Probably. But that fat pile of goo isn't it. I believe it's time we cut ties with Uribe once and for all.

Ryan Sweeney was placed on the DL with a toe contusion.

Just put it up for June... fabulous.

After today (or rather yesterday), Ramirez should be the out-right starter. He's proven more in his 2(?) weeks there than Uribe did in his almost 2 months there. I hope we DFA Uribe.

QUOTE (jackie hayes @ May 30, 2008 -> 07:41 PM) Out before finishing 4. Not pretty. And I threw him tonight in one fantasy league. Ugh... same here...

question, is Bureau banned?

It's official, DLS had Tommy John surgery this week and will be out for the rest of the season. Looks like if he ever gets over this injury, his future is now in the pen.

QUOTE (Fantl916 @ May 29, 2008 -> 04:45 PM) I am willing to bet any amount of money that Justin Smoak is taken by the Giants with the 5th pick, so long as Alvarez doesn't slide down to them... The Giants wants bats in their system, and most likely a college bat that can impact them sooner than later considering how horrific their current offense is. I bet they take Smoak if Alvarez is off the board and pencil him in as their 1b of the future (considering he'd arrive in SF long before Angel Villalona anyways) Posey, Alvarez, Matusz, Crow, Smoak, T. Beckham, and Skipworth are probably all gone by the time we pick.... IMO it's gonna come down to Hosmer, Wallace, or G. Beckham... If Smoak was there i'd be pumped... but I'm seriously doubting that's going to happen. Teams will view Smoak as the cheaper and more advanced alternative to the Hosmer (high school, Boras client)... Smoak will likely be the pick for the Giants if the Rays take Posey. However, if the Rays pass on Posey and go for Beckham or Alvarez, Posey will likely slide to 5, where the Giants would undoubtedly jump all over him.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 29, 2008 -> 06:07 AM) I dunno. Put yourself in his shoes. You are calling out the President of the U.S. and his staff. Don't you think this guy will be looking over his shoulder for the rest of his life? Not really. This isn't some bad espionage movie, it's real live

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 29, 2008 -> 06:06 AM) Most likely. Unless he wanted to go back into government service again, because this pretty much precludes that. But that's not even the real question anyway. The important question is, are the allegations true? Certainly they fit the pattern of what this administration has done. But its possible he may have exaggerated things, or embelished. Who knows? I'd like to see some folks vet out the book a bit, try to corroborate some things. Well, you can't take anything he says with a grain of salt because just a while ago he was one of the president's supporters. And from what I've heard, it is that his editor "edited" a lot of the book. Is some of it true? Probably, but that "truth" has been stretched out several times over, IMO. I also think it is telling that he sprints to go on the far left media stations like MSNBC, but Fox news? Never...

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 29, 2008 -> 05:16 PM) Per whitesox.com, the Sox re-activated Danny Richar off the DL, and then optioned him to Charlotte. Doesn't look like we'll see danny any time soon in Chicago. After Uribe gets back to Chicago, that means that either Getz or Richar will probably move to SS for the Knights, which may be an interesting experiment. yay, great news. We will get to see some of Uribe's garbage, and see less of Alexei at 2B in a couple of days it looks like... such BS. How Uribe was not DFA'ed a long, long time ago is beyond me. To answer you're question, I think Getz will play SS with Richar at 2B. It seems, and I agree with this, that the org. views Richar as a future 2B, while they see Getz as more of a utility player.

This is just an obvious play for money if I've ever seen one.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 28, 2008 -> 07:50 PM) I know that's a famous scene from a movie, but what is that? And what movie? I think it is from the movie "A Space Odyssey."

Richar 1 for 2 tonight with a homer, rbi, and walk. Fields 1-3 with a K. Eldred continues to rake with homerun number 19 and rbi number 50.

that's sexy...

QUOTE (rafacosta @ May 27, 2008 -> 07:22 PM) Ok...s*** happens but you need to improve from it. PK sucks every start of the season and then he gets his 30 HRs from games that dont worth s***. I know it sounded like I was making an excuse for Konerko, but that honestly was not my intention. However, Konerko is a hell of a lot better hitter than people give him credit for. Last year he sucked, but he actually did better in the 1st half of the season then he did in the second half. But aside from 07 and 03 (and so far 08), Konerko has been one of the better hitters in the league. I don't really think you can say that in 99, 00, 01, 02, 04, 05, and 06 that he only hit in the meaningless games.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 27, 2008 -> 07:19 PM) Please god no more Konerko hand excuses. Dude is just a bad baseball player right now. If it's that bad, sit your ass down for a couple weeks. I concur. He should be just DL'ed. There's really no need to risk his hand to get any worse, when he's not producing at all, and now his D seems to be taking a hit from the hand/lack of offensive production. Let him sit for two weeks, get treatments on the hand, and see how it is after 2 weeks to a month. If there are still problems, might as well opt for the surgery and shut him down for the rest of the year, and call up Fields.
-
quite obvious what happened to Konerko that inning. Perhaps his hand was effecting him, or he was still thinking about his last at bat, or he just f***ed up the catch at 1st. And then on the rundown, Konerko was trying so hard to not f*** up again, he aimed the ball instead of throwing it home. s*** happens.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 27, 2008 -> 06:44 PM) But if the 1b is encroaching and you've got a cookie... Ramirez saw the first baseman encroaching, but he never knew he'd get a cookie. He was gambling, as he never had any intention of bunting after he saw the first baseman come up. The gamble payed off for Ramirez, and it worked out. But he still went against manager orders.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 26, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) Sorry but that might be the most ridiculous thing I've seen posted in here in quite some time. Will you ban all other products and companies that do not have a tribute to Memorial Day in some way? I drove by our movie theater today and saw no flag....won't be going there ever again. The homeless shelter down the block didn't have a flag in front. Guess I'll be volunteering at a different one now. ESPN.com didn't commemorate the holiday on their main page. Deleted them as a bookmark. In fact, I see nothing on the Soxtalk main page. Guess I'll stop visiting here too and you probably will too. How often does espn.com put up things for christmas, st. patricks day, valentines day, etc? Besides maybe some catchy title for the top story once in a while, never. I'd have no problem with google leaving their sign blank if they did it for all holidays. I find this very offensive, and do not wish to patronize their product anymore. Just like I would do this with any other company I find offensive. I don't by any gas from citgo, does that make me crazy? I decide not to by any more products from GE because of their dealing with Iran, am I some sort of nutjob? If you don't find it offensive, fine. I don't care. But don't call me out and practically call me an idiot because I find something offensive.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 27, 2008 -> 04:59 PM) It seems Obama has been telling stories about how his uncle was an American troop whom went into Auschwitz and liberated it. Uh, the Soviets liberated Auschwitz and it appears Obama didn't even have an uncle in the armed services. oh Barack, you so crazy Man, you're a racist! (sorry if that isn't green, I'm color blind so I was pretty much picking a color at random)

I would have benched Ramirez for that stunt he pulled off. Of course it worked out, but if I give you a sign, that means you do what I tell you to do. I like Ramirez probably more than anyone else here, but you can't be making up plays for yourself, especially when you are in a close game vs. a divisional rival. However, it is a non-subject now. Hopefully Uribe gets DFA'ed, and Richar gets called up in place of Wise once he's ready. Keep Ramirez in the middle infield as well, as we don't need to be shifting him from 5 different positions every other day. I'd have Richar and Ramirez platoon at second (with Pablo getting a game here or there, but mainly being Crede's backup at 3B), and have Ramirez give Cabrera a day off every once in a while at short.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ May 26, 2008 -> 09:10 PM) Good win. Way to overcome horrible managing by Ozzie. what happened? I was not able to see the game thanks to Directv's s***ty-ness.
-
What should Ozzie do with Swisher?
BearSox replied to Kenny Hates Prospects's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You can't bench Swisher, or for that matter PK or Thome, for all you have invested in them. -
QUOTE (bighurt4life @ May 26, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) Hopefully we can take someone that plays a premier position in the draft. Wallace will probably end up at 1st (plus we already have our future 3b in Fields if he manages to stay at 3rd) Smoak and Hosmer also play 1b. First basemen are a lot easier to find in the later rounds than other positions because you don't really have to be able to do much defensively at 1st so teams can draft someone purely for their bat instead of looking for players will great tools who have to be able to do everything well, this way if their defense never comes around you can just stick them at first and call it a day. I'd like to see us go after Beckam because that will be a need position for us in the near future. (some would argue that it is a need right now) You act as if guys who can hit 30+ homers, bat around .300, and provide you with a high OBP grow on trees. Beckham so far has been a one year wonder, and there is still doubt as to whether he can play short or not. Beckham is probably the least sure thing from the bunch of Hosmer, Smoak, and Wallace.
