QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 07:19 PM) I do have some inside on Crow. He wants money, but nothing outrageous and won't be signing likely till August 15 (the deadline). His top two teams to be drafted by are the Rays and Royals, but that ain't happening. All I know is that he wants fair money, nothing outrageous and there is a 1% chance at best he heads bacl to school or does a Scherzer route. As someone who has only been able to see a little of Crow, what can you tell me about him? I know he has a live mid 90's fastball and a nasty slider, but does he have anything else? Any other info about his strengths/weaknesses?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 06:45 PM) Hosmer will go 3 or 5, book it. And him going 5 is the only shot Smoak falls to the Sox pick. Well, if Beckham goes no. 1, then Posey falls to 5, IMO. The Giants won't pass on Posey. So, that leaves KC and Baltimore as the only real big threats to take Smoak, and it looks like Baltimore wants Matusz. Also, it looks like the only player KC would take ahead of Hosmer is Beckham. I really think that if Beckham goes no. 1 overall, there will be a good chance now that both Smoak and Crow will be there at 8. Man, that'd be a tough decision.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 06:07 PM) I have a bad feeling we'll pass on Crow. probably, but I still have hope. Rumors are however that Crow wants a big time contract now...
-
Personally, I'd be surprised to see him last the rest of the season without getting DFA'ed.
-
f*** YEAH! This means the odds of Crow being there at 8 increased a ton!

QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 03:03 PM) Looks like the Reds won't be taking Crow. According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, they've narrowed it down to: Matusz, Posey, G-Beck, and Alonso. http://beta.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/s....cincinnati.com Smoak will likely be gone at either 3, 4, or 5, Matusz at 4 or 7, and then that leaves Crow there at 8! It would be nice to get an arm like his in the system. Contreras/Broadway's replacement in the short run, and if everything goes as planned, Vazquez's replacement in the long run. Plus, even if he does fail as a starter, he would still have potential as a set up man. The same can't really be said for Matusz. Also, man, would it be nice to see Gordon Beckham go at no. 7. I like Beckham and all, but I don't think he's worth a top 10 selection and his bat/power is more of a product of the aluminum and college baseball in general. He's got a hitch in his swing, and I have trouble seeing his bat transition as well as Wallace's or Smoak's. I think he's a fine prospect and all, but there are other players who will be there at 8 who'd I'd rather see drafted. I like Alonso also, but he is as slow as they come, and there is signability concerns. (however, sadly there are some w/ Crow as well). For me, the prospects are in three tiers, based on who I think the org. likes, who I like, and who I think has a shot at being there (I am assuming that all of TBeckham, Alvarez, Posey and Matusz will be gone, as they are the most certain locks for the top 7, IMO): 1st Tier: 1.) Aaron Crow 2.) Justin Smoak 3.) Kyle Skipworth 2nd Tier: 4.) Brett Wallace 5.) Gordon Beckham 6.) Yonder Alonso 3rd Tier: 7.) Shooter Hunt 8.) Andrew Cashner 9.) Tim Melville WTF? Tier: -Jason Castro -Christian Friedrich -Ike Davis However, since only 7 teams pick ahead of us, we don't have to drop down below the 2nd tier.

Looks like Bureau was wrong about Regier getting fired...

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 10:53 PM) Try 10 points higher. 2 weeks ago we were talking about a player who was batting under .200 and some were saying he had no business in the majors. I've been Alexei's biggest fan, and two weeks ago I was saying he should either be starting or playing full time in Charlotte.

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 10:28 PM) From what I've been reading Beckham has a serious hitch in his swing and isn't terribly athletic, that's kinda scares me off of taking him at #8. It seems like we might have a shot at any one of Skipworth, Hosmer, Smoak, or Crow. I'd be happy with any one of those picks, my top pick out of the four would be Hosmer. He's got plus plus power potential, has a cannon arm and good athleticism. If he slides to us and we pass on him for someone we can pay slot money to I'll be pissed Hosmer ain't happening in a million years. Even if he is there at 8, we aren't paying him 7+ million and even possibly throwing in a major league clause.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 07:33 PM) greinke and floyd remind me alot of each other ...greinke throws harder though with more accuracy.

Carlos Quentin is to the 2008 Chicago White Sox offense as Estaban Loiza was to the 2003 Chicago White Sox pitching staff.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 07:22 PM) I'm willing to insult our organization much as the next person for their issues with drafting and developing even average players, but there's no way they overdraft that much. Even if we pass on Alvarez (which I'll be upset with), it won't be the difference in talent that, say, Rick Porcello to Aaron Poreda provided. It'll instead be the difference of Wallace/Beckham/Smoak/whomever else around that slot and Alvarez. Speaking of 3rd round prospects, it looks like Danks could very well be there, so I'd expect him to be the pick if he was there, even if Boras is his client.
-
Oh, how was that not called a strike?
-
QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 07:24 PM) Hahaha f***ing Carlos Oh I see now, the change of having Konerko cleanup gave Quentin the protection (or lack thereof) to hit a homer... Ozzie's a genius!

I LOVE CG!

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 07:21 PM) Babe Hamilton homered again, at least it was against Indians. That trade really worked out for both teams. However, I think I'd prever Volquez due to the fact he's younger and doesn't have the drug/health concerns, plus he plays the more important position.

Cabrera got me thinking about Garland, and looking at the stats, Garland has had a surge in K's with 22 now on the season!
-
QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 07:18 PM) joe hasnt gotten the chance to call the press box yet lol, maybe they thought that it was Cabrera, and to avoid a situation, they just gave Grudz the hit.
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 07:17 PM) Well, overrated or not, I'm ALWAYS gonna love Joe for 2005. I'm gonna always love Shingo for the 3 months or whatever he was with team for in 2005 as well... I'm going to love everyone on the team who played even the least of everyone. Hell, I love Ryan Meaux for getting us Blum.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 07:16 PM) They would have to change that. still says a hit.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 07:10 PM) I don't think he returns after this season if we don't make the playoffs. Hopefully he takes Kenny with him. Kenny has no excuse for the minor league situation right now, and the future of the organization looks to be in big trouble.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 07:13 PM) Another horrible defensive play by one of the most overrated Sox players in history. I agree with Tony, Javy might be the most underrated now. they gave grudz the hit I think...
-
Getz with a jack today so far... Charlotte down 2-1 as of now.

well, I for one am a believer in the fact that this election is already over, and that Obama already has the presidency locked up (unless very incriminating video comes out). So, congrats Dems.
