Mariotti hides behind his editors, as other ST writers slam him
BearSox replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 10:52 AM) So, I'm one of the left-leaning homo abortion pot and commie people here, and when I was in the Chicago Area, I always subscribed to the Tribune. Didn't really care about the bias, but it was just a vastly better paper. The better paper is the one that shows more viewpoints and isn't in the tank for one side. The Sun-Times is just a really s***ty paper. You might be on the left, but I'm pretty sure you're not a moron who wants to read about how much the Sun-Times loves Obama, etc. Does the Tribune have it's biases? Of course, but it's not in the tank for either side, and their writers and editors are leaps and bounds better than the ones at the Sun-Times. -
I love how Swisher has normal facial hair right now... how long will that last?

Very classy! Great job the White Sox to do that... Note to self: Next time it rains out at a Sox game, where a Sailor outfit

QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 09:13 AM) First, gang piling onto Coco Crisp, now this? The Rays look like a bunch of punks. ? Crisp was the one who came at Shields. Fights happen... I just wish the mlb didn't make such a big deal about them though with warnings, suspensions, etc...

sounds like a pretty crazy night with a great ending...

QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 09:52 PM) Every paper will have some skew one way or the other depending on the journalists and editor. You should get used to it. I realize that, but to be completely in the tank for one is unacceptable. At least make an effort. -
QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 08:25 PM) Can you imagine announcers having to explain the origin of that nickname if it really stuck? I could see Jim Miller explaining it every time he bats, just like how he goes through the whole "Pronk" nickname origins with Hafner every freaking time the Indians play on Sunday Night.

QUOTE (BobDylan @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 08:47 PM) Willy Taveras to steal some bags. Don't know what he'd cost, he's only 26 years old. But he can't hit for s***. Don't know if his legs are worth demoting or possibly even trading Anderson. EDIT: And I just realized Jerry Owens can do exactly what Taveras does. But I'm not certain about his injury and how it'll effect him running. Taveras would be much better than Owens due to the fact they are about on par speed wise (Owens might be a tick faster, but Taveras has the better technique, IMO), and Taveras can actually play D and he has a very strong arm. If he'd come cheap, I'd much rather have him on the bench than Owens.

Sun-Times is a classless junk paper. I don't want to get into anything political here, but they are as far left as can be and extremely biased. I don't care if they're far left, journalism has no place for blatant biases. It wouldn't make a difference to me if they were far-right. I'm not journalist expert, but for good journalism, you have to show all view points, not just your own. Plus, they have no-goods like Mariotti in their sports section who probably has never swung a bat in his life, writing garbage for publicity. I'm sorry (no I'm not), but the Sun-Times is one paper that I won't be wasting any money on. -
With the way our rotation has been going, I don't think there is any need for 7 relief pitchers anymore. And Uribe is just a waste of 4.5 million on the bench. Personally, I'd drop Uribe and add Getz to the bench (I just hate limiting his playing time though as I still feel he has potential as at least a platoon guy), and drop Loiza and add Owens or someone fast to the bench for basically the role Dave Roberts had in 2004 for the Red Sox. Besides for pinch runner late in games, I don't want to see Owens anywhere near the field though. We'd have a pretty solid bench: C, Toby Hall (R) INF, Pablo Ozuna (R) OF, Brian Anderson (R) Pinch Runner, Jerry Owens (L) UTL, Chris Getz (L) We'd be lacking some power though...

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 05:12 PM) The question is why has he been made useless? He has a great glove and can hit with power, but has just sat. That's all fine and dandy, but he can't hit.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 03:41 PM) I am making this post without doing much thinking, but has Linebrink been the best FA signing by any team this season, respectively? I am eating a ton of crow on this one...

there's nothing like leaving for about an hour and then coming back to see that your team has come back in the 7th & 8th innings to take the lead! Now, all we need is 3 more runs and outs to complete a brutal beat down of the Twins.

Looks like he will have to wait a year for the MLB Draft.
-
From what I have heard/read, he doesn't have much secondary stuff and he is an injury risk with his mechanics. That is why I, like many others, still feel his future is in the pen, possibly as Thornton's replacement as the lefty SU guy.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 12:44 AM) Owens is a 27 year old slap hitting outfielder whose arm is only slightly stronger than mine, and I'm pretty sure I have something wrong with my shoulder too...his arm may even be just as strong as mine. He's also not 22 and just drafted out of Wichita State. He also doesn't have the pedrigree that Kenny Williams Jr has...KW was actually a pretty damn good prospect in his younger years and, from what I understand, really didn't become a non-factor until he was moved from the outfield to 3B. That fact actually makes it seem pretty reasonable as to why KW is afraid to move his good prospects all around the field. The KW2 pick was a reach, but it's not a humongous reach like many are saying...I also think all of that was made up for by the fact that the Sox selected Danks in the 7th round, when he's probably a 2nd-4th round talent. When I am comparing the two, I am not talking about their arm, age, pedigree, or anything of that sorts. I compared their approach and swings. And at least from the left side, KWjr. is strikingly similar to Jerry Owens. I don't see what the big deal about me comparing their aproach and swing is.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 03:37 AM) So one of my buddies who goes to UGA just informed me that Beckham "slays puss like no other..." , thought it was kinda funny sounds like me...

Never been a fan of Kenny. I almost came around after 05, but didn't. However, for as many bad moves as he's made, he's made plenty of good moves.
-
I love Ramirez... I remember when I was the only one at the beginning of the year who wanted to see him start every day at 2B.
-
sick as hell...

I can't see the game thanks to the gayness of Directv, but how is Floyd looking? I notice he has 7 K's which is high for him this season, but he is facing the twins... Also, I love how gameday has those video updates. Helps out a ton when I'm trying to follow the game. To bad it doesn't work have the time and is so amazingly slow.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 01:23 PM) It says in the article that he's going to Great Falls. there goes that theory...

you guys are forgetting that either a pitcher or hitter can win the ROY of the year award, and there are two rookie pitchers who have ERA's less than 4 right now.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 12:45 PM) I think some of you guys have Nevin ranked a bit high. I'm very curious to see what he does this season because he wasn't as good as advertised last year (albeit it was his professional debut and he's incredibly young). I assume everyone is not counting Josh Fields in the lists? Fields and Richar don't count...
