  1. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 04:08 PM) Bearsox, I came across this website the other day. I think you might find it hilarious. www.Goracle.org oh man, what a great site. I liked the hall of saints.
  2. Charlotte had the night off. Birmingham won 2-1. -Cassel with a very good outing, going 7 innings allowing 5 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 4. He did not allow any runs but picked up the no decision as the Barons have virtually no offensive threat. However, their lone RBI came from Valido. Winston-Salem lost 6-1 -After being named pitcher of the week for his league, Ely did not fare as well today, going 6.2 innings, surrending 5 runs (all earned) and of the 7 hits he gave up, only 3 stayed in the park. However, he did not walk anyone and struck out 8. -No notes on the offensive front. Kannapolis did not play today. Great Falls is winning 5-4 in the 8th and are in the process of mounting a comeback against Helena. -The Great One, aka Ken Williams Jr., started in center today and is so far 1-4 with a triple and an rbi. He also has a walk and a K. -Brent Morel started at 3B tonight and is 1-4 with a triple as well. -Doug Thennis is 0-1 with a couple of walks and a couple of runs scored. -On the pitching front, it seems like only non-prospects pitched tonight. -Oh, and his greatness Kent Gerst pinch ran. Bristol won 8-5 -The either extremely young or not young at all Juan Silverio went 1-4 with a 2 run homer. -Brandon Short went 1-5. -Not much else to report on.
  3. Anyone hear Al Gore's endorsement speech for Obama the other day? My god, this guy is nuts! He practically blamed everything wrong in the entire world on Bush getting elected over him.
  4. to spend half a trillion dollars to maybe get men to Mars is beyond retarded.
  5. QUOTE (north side chi sox fan @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 10:28 AM) Where would Figgins play? I am pretty happy with Crede, Ramirez, Cabrera, Quentin, Dye, and Swisher is coming arround. If we give up a starter I dont think the upgrade at any of those positions is worth more than the downgrade at starting pitcher. Thome and Konerko are hurting our offense and Figgins will not replace either of those 2. Thome is starting to come arround too and Konerko will hopefully turn it on when he comes of the DL. Figgins would play 2B while giving Crede days off at 3B and perhaps even playing the OF once in a while. I don't if this is at all possible, but if we could get Figgins and Morales for Contreras, I'd do that deal.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 10:22 AM) Contreras is the obvious person to trade from the pitching staff this offseason if we're trying to clear a spot. The way he's pitching I'm becoming less convinced that we need to move him, we're in a place where we could hold him and offer arbitration and either get him for 1 more year for comparatively cheap or we wind up with 2 draft picks since he's rapidly pitching himself back on to the A list. But, if we're going to trade Jose, there are a few teams I absolutely don't want us talking to. The Angels, the Red Sox, the D-Rays, the Cubs, and the usual AL Central competitors. I don't care if they're offering up a better deal than anyone else, they better offer up an ungodly ransom before we have Jose pitching against us in the ALCS. I believe Contreras is signed through 09, so we have still for one more season after this one. The only two players I see making sense for us is Figgins and Roberts, as 2B is the only place where there seems to a bit of an opening. Either 2B or another OF to pretty much rotate with Swisher, Konerko, Thome, and Dye. I wonder, what would it cost to get Roberts? Richar, Broadway, Anderson, + some more?
  7. For those of you who don't know, Tom Gorzelanny is from the Chicago area and is from Evergreen Park. He attended Marist High School on the southside and was drafted by the White Sox out of high school, but did not sign and went to college. However, from what I have heard from people who knew him, he was an A-Hole... lets kick his ass!
  8. my personal choice would be Chone Figgins, if available. The Angels could use some more pitching... the question is do we sacrifice someone like Contreras for Figgins, and hope one of Broadway/Richard/Massett/Egbert could step in his place? EDIT: Looking at it again, with the emergence of Saunders and Santana, the Angels don't really need someone like Contreras.
  9. apparently Great Falls 3B throws left handed...
  10. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 07:35 PM) Is Wise this seasons Andy Gonzalez? close, but I'd say Wise is better.
  11. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 12:34 AM) Funny. You look like a Guinness-swilling squirrel. that's just for the nights so I can get into bars and drink. No one EVER cards a squirrel.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 02:44 AM) There is something to be said about the comparison in defense in CF, which is monumental between the two, and I'm not even comparing the range between the two right now. Taveras might have a major league fastball while Owens might throw as hard as 14 year olds hit. When I was 14, I was able to hit hard. No way Owens would have been able to throw as hard as some of my bombs in little league.
  13. played MGS4 for 8 hours today... I feel fat.
  14. Perhaps a stint on the DL is just what Paulie needed. It can help heal his back and thumb, and get him back to 100% come the early part of July, when we will really need a bat. If he goes on the DL, who gets called up? Fields?
  15. so, is Uribe now officially at the top of the depth chart at 2B?
  16. I just don't understand the fascination with golf... when I hit a ball, I want someone else to chase it down.
  17. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 15, 2008 -> 12:00 AM) Haha, Dye has one quiet series where he doesn't do anything and you say "he's not doing much anymore." If you're going to do that you'd be doing just as well (and look just as silly) by throwing Carlos Quentin in there and saying that square is turning into a pentagon. It's been longer then just one quiet series, he hasn't hit at all in the month of June. This month he is batting .235 with a .245 OBP and .353 SLG. He's gotten 12 hits in 51 AB's, only 4 extra base hits, and has driven in a whole 4 runs. That's quite a big slump if you ask me, and not just one quiet series. Hell, for the month of June, Konerko has outproduced Dye.
  18. Ozuna may not be the same player he was pre-injury, but he's still decent with the bat, better than Uribe for sure, and with Crede, Cabrera, and Ramirez, there isn't much need for a "defensive star to replace them." Plus, Ozuna still provides more speed off the bench than fatty Uribe does, and I don't care what anyone says, he provides a spark still.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 10:08 PM) Thome may "blow" but Paulie has been worse. It's a fact, jack. Lets not argue here, the triangle of Thome, Konerko, and Swish have all equally sucked. However, that triangle has slowly been turning into a square with Dye not doing much anymore.
  20. Well, Uribe got a hit on friday and temporarily got his average over .200, why shouldn't he play? Also, I doubt Ramirez was really banged up if he was healthy enough to pinch run late in the game. If Alexei was in fact injured and was nursing something minor for 2 or 3 days, you could bet Ozuna would have been put in instead.
  21. got the last copy of MGS4 at best buy tonight!
  22. I realize we need to add another bat, but where? We have unmovable contracts at 1B and DH, Swish, Cabrera, Crede, Ramirez, and Pierzynski aren't going anywhere. I also think Dye doesn't go anywhere? What to do?
  23. wow, Eldred with a homer in each game tonight, including a grandslam. He is a beastly AAAA player. Charlotte is looking like a scary team in the international league now. Charlotte won game one, and is winning game 2. Whisler did his thing in game 1. Poreda with a rough AA debut, going 6 innings, giving 6 hits, 4 ER (4 R), but no BB's and K'd 5. Birmingham lost.
  24. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 08:39 PM) Yonder Alonso just hit a home run in the bottom of the 7th to give Miami a 4-3 lead. That guy has a great looking swing. Looks like a pro hitter right now. Didn't realize that he also leads the entire country in walks with 76. With him, Votto, and Bruce, the Reds potentially have a great lefty trio. Looks like they are going to move Votto to LF, if everything goes as planned, since Alonso can only play 1B (he is about as slow as you get though).
