QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 10:17 AM) I think most people with a pulse can tell the difference between a 17 year old and a 21 year old. Depends. I know someone who plays baseball and is only 16, but he looks as if he's a full grown man. He never gets carded, and he is the hairiest man I've ever seen.

QUOTE (KevinM @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 10:39 AM) Ok. He goes the other way. That doesn't explain the inconsistencies in his MiLB statistics compared to his MLB statistics. He's still a singles hitter whose success is dependent upon hitting it through holes that won't always be open. My god, does EVERYTHING have to be stats for you?

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 11:18 AM) I'll take the HR. You can have your singles, I take the HR. We will see who comes out on top. I think any sane person whould choose the home run over the singles... however, find me a player that can hit 100+ homers in a season.

I hate how people always say we had no small ball in 05. While the majority of our offense did come from the long ball, that team had plenty of manufactured runs as well.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 09:36 AM) He was bad either way. He had a ERA half a run better than the first half after the all-star break. But he was 2-8! Javy has shown to screw up when pitching in big games. He's no Freddy Garcia. Besides, Boston sucked that year. They were worse than us. Although, Javier was good against the Cubs last year. No record in 14 innings pitched with a 3.86 ERA and a .079 WHIP. Pretty good. Oh don't even use that to try and make a point. There was absolutely no run support for him that year.

QUOTE (BobDylan @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 11:47 PM) The difference is Vazquez has 83+ career IP vs. the Cubs. Dempster has 7 vs. the Sox. That measly 7 innings is probably bad news for the Sox. And most of us know how Javy likes to s*** his pants on the stage. No, not really. I mean, he hasn't exactly proved he thrives on the stage, but he hasn't s*** his pants on the stage, at least for us. Since Javy was here, he was bad for 1 half, the first half of 06. Lets be frank, most of the games in the first half aren't really on big stages. However, in the 2nd half of 06, when there was a whole lot more pressure on us and we were going for that playoff spot, Javy was our only pitcher worth a damn, and Javy was dealing against teams like Boston.

Didn't AJ hit that 3 run homer in the 9th against Dempster to get the lead and then those low-life cubs fans trashed the field with garbage? Also, didn't Ross Gload begin that rally with a 2 out single as well?

out of curiosity, anyone good with stats know our record vs. below .500 teams compared to .500 or above teams?

Chris who?

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 10:59 PM) Funny, as you would probably see the same posts on Philly boards about Floyd, and on the Texas boards with Danks(I know he didn't pitch for them, but his AAA numbers weren't impressive in the least). It goes both ways. Maybe you could use that for Floyd, but Danks? Come on, the guy was either their no. 1 or 2 prospect for a couple of years and was a top 10 pick out of high school. The guy is just a good pitcher.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 10:55 PM) Amazing minor league development we have here. How does a guy like Ryan Sweeney go from not being able to adjust to inside pitching here, to poof a guy hitting .299 in another organization. I wonder what changes another team will make to Anderson when he gets run out of here. The talent is there, we just don't see that talent at the major league level. This reminds me, I have to update the Ryan Sweeney tracker.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 06:42 PM) http://www.businessandmedia.org/articles/2...0620123425.aspx Dobbs of CNN calls for Bush to be impeached because of salmonella outbreak. haha Well, don't you know it's Bush's fault? Mr. Global Warming told me that everything bad happening in the world is because Bush is president. I think Bush should be impeached because my Grandma died last year from old age. It was obviously his fault.

I've never seen him, and just based on stats and his age, it doesn't look like he has even all that great of a shot at making it to the pros, but due to the fact Allen is a big strong lefty, I think he might eventually make it one day as a bench player. He's K's far too much and doesn't walk nearly as much as he needs to, but he has great raw power (or so I've read) and shows good athleticism with 9 stolen bases already on the season. Just look at him: He looks like a linebacker.

Hopefully Wilder left us with a little going away present with Silverio... and I think we should call Eduardo Escobar EE. I hope these guys are legit prospects. With them, Alexei and Beckham, to go along with Richar, Getz, and even possibly Shelby, we finally have some depth up the middle within the organization.

QUOTE (Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 03:09 PM) Mission accomplished, Rep. McCotter That was positively fantastic! My favorite was diplomacy really means magic.
-
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 03:05 PM) He wasn't tipping his pitches, he was getting into situations where he was in hitter counts or had to throw his fastball. He could not locate his forkball at all today. Pretty much this allowed the cubs to eliminate that from their thoughts and concentrate on fastball slider. When you get into hitter counts and you basically turn Contreras into a fastball pitcher this is what happens. His pitch sequences were pretty horrid as well. In situations when he should have been using his forkball, he'd use the fastball or breaking ball, and visa versa.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 05:41 PM) Yawn. lol... I know he isn't the sexiest name out there, but he's most likely available (no one is going to want GMjr's contract), and he would provide us with a switch hitting bat with speed, the ability to get on base and walk, and plus D in all 3 OF spots.

Make a play for Reggie Willits...

Crede could maybe net us type B comp. With the way Cabrera has been playing lately, we'd surely get type A for him. I'm all for trading Contreras whether we are in it or not. If Fields gets healthy quick and starts mashing, I'd consider Crede, but while we're in it, we should keep Crede. If Konerko comes off of the DL mashing the ball, that might give us enough incentive to make a move involving Crede.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 01:30 PM) They got their loogy up for Thome. Last time their loogy faced someone with the bases loaded, he gave up a grand slam... we need Alexei to get on here.

I wish we had Carlos Pena last year...

Well, if I got drafted out of high school, I'd sign right away. If I was in the same exact shoes as Long is, I'd still sign out of High School. I love playing the game of baseball, but I really dislike school.
-
Detroit still scares me. They have won 8 of their last 10, and are only 7 games out (6 if we lose and they win tonight), and they still have plenty of time to catch up.
-
I know it's been only 3 starts, but I still feel we should trade Contreras while he still has value. While he pitched great for most of the 1st half so far, I still don't see anything special with him. I think taking a chance with Broadway/Massett in the rotation would be worth selling high on Contreras.

QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 10:11 AM) Kyle Long will be in Tallahassee today and will be taking Summer C classes which start Monday. I take it he won't be signing.
