  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) And another campaign promise bites the dust... http://www.suntimes.com/news/novak/1016477...novak22.article Well, don't you know, anything the messiah says or does is immaculate...
  2. KWjr. went 0-4 with 2 K's... now batting a fearsome .130!
  3. You know, voting when the game was just an exhibition for "fun" was acceptable, but now that the game actually means something, voting is ridiculous. Fans should still be able to participate though. I think they should do it where they name the teams 2-4 weeks in advance, but leave something like 5 or 6 spots open for fans to vote who they want into it. Also, the home run derby shouldn't just have all-stars in it, but rather best power hitters in the game. I'd love to see Adam Dunn in one (Joe Borchard would probably do really well in a HR derby as well).
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 09:32 PM) You basically are playing professional baseball by playing at a school while also still being able to be a kid and go out and party. The only thing that keeps it from being pro baseball is that you don't get paid, but instead get free schooling. Yeah, real tough life. The thing is, I know this. I know going straight to pro-ball might not be the smartest choice, but it's just something I've always wanted to do.
  5. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 01:30 AM) I would love to see guys required to go to college ball and get rid of rookie ball. It would make the draft more of a sure thing, would make college baseball more popular and would make the draft more popular as well (I think). Well, not every high school player is highly recruited and don't get to go to college for free.
  6. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 01:57 PM) In what world is Vazquez the White Sox best pitcher? He might be the worst starter on the Sox right now. In the real world. In over-reaction White Sox land, Vazquez isn't the ace though. Hell, even in his worst starts this season he hasn't allowed the game to get out of hand. If there is one starter who we should trade, it is Contreras for numerous reasons. Also, I have a question... why does Mark Buehrle get a free pass when indeed he has been our worst starter? I'm not saying he should be traded or anything and he is still the clubs no. 2, but he has, well lets put it, the least.
  7. Ramirez's future is at SS. It looks like Richar will have a good shot at the 2B job for next year, but hopefully we could bring in a solid vet to platoon with him vs. lefties. Someone like Loretta would be perfect to platoon with Richar at 2B. I believe I was even saying this in the offseason.
  8. DJ isn't great, but he is hilarious at times. I'd love a three man booth of Hawk, DJ, and Stone.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 05:50 AM) I remember reading or talking to a person about how college baseball players just don't attend class in the 2nd semester of the year. They have a tutor, but that's about it. So yeah, there's not much school involved. I still wouldn't care, I'd just want to play professional ball.
  10. What's the over/under on how many times Cabrera called the pressbox to argue about that error?
  11. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 09:16 PM) Kent Gerst seems to have found a power stroke. Homeruns on back-to-back nights? wasn't he that super prospect according to bureau?
  12. Okay, I see only two things happening vs. the dodgers. Either we sweep them easily and everything once again is fine in White Sox land (until we fall apart again), or we get our asses handed to us and panic really starts to break out.
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 09:00 PM) And LA has been waiting for awhile. what? The guy isn't even 24 yet and he is already an above average hitter. Before this year, the guy had only 2 partial seasons under his belt. Wow, I am shocked to find out that a guy hitting .290 so far and being on pace for close to 100 rbi's this season isn't showing some of that stud potential.
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 09:56 PM) No way in hell WE would do that. Kemp isn't that good. He doesn't even stand out in that awful line up in LA now. If Colletti called KW and proposed that deal, and Kenny turned it down, that would quite possibly be KW's worst move as GM. Kemp is a stud waiting to happen.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 09:54 PM) Broadway has not been overly impressive for a while now. Have you seen the numbers that guys put up in the majors in comparison to their AAA stats in that league? Jojo Reyes looked like Cy Young in AAA. Would I expect Broadway to set the world on fire? No, but I think he could put up an ERA between 4.6-4.7, what I expect Contreras to probably be around for the rest of the season.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 08:47 PM) So we're going to trade from a position where we have no possible replacements for a guy who plays at positions we have stars at? I've said that we should sell high on Contreras while he still has some value. I've thought all along that these past couple of months have been an a aberration, and based on his last couple of outing, my hypotennuse is getting stronger. I really don't think what we will get from Contreras for the remander of the season will be anything better than what we would get from Masset/Broadway/whoever in his spot in the rotation. And the Ethier part was just more of me fantasizing about getting him.
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 08:45 PM) Good stuff or not, he's a LHP and he'll be facing this offense. You know what the outcome of that will be, come on now. Oh, I know. 9 out of 10 times when this offense faces a lefty they've never seen before, results will not be good.
  18. The Dodgers need pitching big time if they want to stay in the race in the NL West, perhaps they'd have interest in Contreras... It's all been a fantasy of mine to somehow get Ethier as well.
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 08:40 PM) Wait until Kershaw gets hold of this offense on Thursday. I'm not buying into the Kershaw hype. I mean he has good stuff, but whenever I watched him I wasn't overly impressed. His fastball is much too straight and while his curve can be devistating, he still needs to get it over consistently to be effective in the pros. I think he'll be a good starter, but I don't think he'll be some super ace ESPN is making him out to be.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 09:38 PM) I'd take Derosa over Ramirez Maybe this season as DeRosa is a more polished hitter, but in the long run a GM would be crazy to choose DeRosa over Ramirez. With Ramirez you are talking about potentially an all-star.
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 09:31 PM) After this series, all the position comparisons on who would you take, should now look like this. C- AJ 1B- Lee 2B- Could go either way SS- Theriot 3B- Ramirez LF- Could go either way with Patterson and Quentin CF- Edmonds RF- Dye If you are just talking about this series, fine, but all together, Patterson doesn't even come close to Quentin, and Ramirez is better than either DeRosa/Fontenot/Cedano/etc.
  22. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 09:17 PM) The Indians will keep him, the teams in the AL Central smell blood. We face Sowers, Lee and Sabathia at home next week. Well, I like our odds for the game against Sowers at least. Sowers is just bad, I have no idea how he was a 1st round draft pick, let alone top 10.
  23. If the wind is blowing out in wrigley, it is a hitters delight. However, if it isn't, it is more of a pitchers ball park.
  24. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 08:11 PM) Hawk: Back in my day if Bobby Gibson was on the mound and Aramis stepping the box, Bobby would make sure he isn't too comfy in that box. If Gibson was on the mound, I don't think any batter would feel comfy no matter the circumstances.
  25. nice to see Broadway bounced back with a decent start. I think Cook is trying to make a case for a September call up as well. Gallagher has been on fire lately raising his batting average to .268 after a horrible start.
