  1. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 28, 2008 -> 06:17 PM) MVP 05 for the comp goes for close to 150 on ebay. It's a very tough game to find. I wish I knew that a couple of years ago. I would have stocked up MVP 05 for the computer and then sell them on ebay or Amazon for pretty much triple of what I paid for them.
  2. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 03:10 AM) Short is putting together a fine season. he might be a sleeper prospect...
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 02:09 AM) on another, more pleasant note...after today's game, only two of the Sox hitter's in the lineup they put out today are hitting below .270; what's better is that only 1 of them is not a regular. Oh, and Alexei Ramirez is right at the .300 mark. He's gonna be really good. Bureau said you don't find a steal for $4.75 mill over 4 years, but, at this point - given, it's been half a year - I'll disagree. He's not going to be Soriano in the power department, but a lightning quick swing, good power to all fields, and improving defense at 2B - yeah, he's a super keeper. Consider me a huge fan of Alexei now that he's gotten a bit used to MLB pitching. I'd like to think his average will stay at .300 all season and that, come sometime shortly after the ASB, he'll be moved to the 2 hole with Pierzynski moved back to his traditional 6 or 7 hole and the lineup could be crazy good. It took one swing from him in spring trainging for me to say that he should start at 2B over Uribe. He might not have "Soriano" power, but I think he's got 20-30 homer power without K'ing well over 100 times like Soriano. As Ramirez gets more used to MLB pitching, the walk numbers will rise as well. Like A.J. said yesterday in the post-game conference, Ramirez is an all-star in the waiting. As of now, it's between him and Longoria for AL ROY. However, Longoria will probably get it since he has those sexy power numbers.
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 05:31 AM) to continue with my domination of this thread, I'll also throw out Adrian Beltre as my sleeper to take over at 3B for the Sox next year. He should be cheap to trade for, depending upon how much he improves his OPS over the next 3 months (crazy 1st half-2nd half splits in his career - .745/.827 1st/2nd half OPS in his career) and if he's still even on the Mariners come a month a 3 days from now. However, it's his walk year next year, and the only other walk year he had, he set all-time records for 3Bman. I wouldn't expect 48 homers, but 30 or more homers and potentially a draft pick or two out of the whole deal would be pretty sweet. You could also potentially get Seattle to take the $6 mill Dotel is earned in 2009 too, but I imagine that would cost a bit more. If I had to throw it out there right now, I'd say Fields, Dotel, and Broadway for Beltre and some so-so prospect who is in A ball for them right now come the offseason. What did you have last night? That would be a god awful trade, even if Beltre does raise his average to .260 with an OPS just above .800 (with an OBP around .320-330). Why would you trade a thirdbaseman with the offensive upside of Fields, plus a decent pitching prospect and a good but not great reliever for a guy who MIGHT have a good season due to it being his contract year. Come on now, that trade would be beyond stupid.
  5. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jun 28, 2008 -> 08:40 PM) I'm not gonna be Polly Parrot and profess that I know if he is or not...all I know is he either gets behind too many hitters...or goes 0-2 or 1-2 and just starts dickin' around instead of going for the kill. Well, the Cubs did do a great job of making him work. They weren't going after close pitches and were fouling off tough pitches.
  6. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 28, 2008 -> 07:37 PM) I don't think it's that he's tipping his pitches, it's just that he isn't as good out of the stretch. It's pretty common. Floyd has had that problem too. He can't get the same release point and the same push off the rubber like he has out of the wind-up. It's not like Javy has always had this problem, it's just come up recently. And it isn't him s***ting his pants in a big game either as this started back when the Pirates were in town, if not earlier.
  7. QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Jun 28, 2008 -> 05:57 PM) Javy seemed to straighten out until that bad hop single by DLee past OC...that seemed to scramble his brains a tad... I really think he is tipping his pitches. If you notice, most of the damage done against him is from the stretch, just like the one writer/scout for Pittsburgh noticed. Once DLee got that lucky single, he started getting hit again from the stretch. He needs to find what exactly he is doing to tip his pitches, and then to make sure opposing players will stop looking for any "tips", he should make off as if he is going to throw a breaking ball but then fire a fastball underneath their chin.
  8. QUOTE (Cubano @ Jun 28, 2008 -> 05:06 PM) Now his boy is american and he can stay in the USA. I am telling you guys we need to change the constitution so these foreigners do not take advantage of the system. Ha, ha, ha. The USA is the best country in the world. Appreciate what you have guys. Alexei can stay in the USA because he is cuban. Cubans can apply for the green card after one year and one day in the USA regardless of any situation. I wish more americans would realize that...
  9. Thornton was just plain sexy today... did he throw anything besides the old no. 1?
  10. Did Grace just say Swish is hard to strike out? I'm sorry, but if you average over 100 K's a season, no matter who you are, you are not a tough K.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 28, 2008 -> 03:17 PM) I missed the "stretch" from Hawk. It's hard to tell what's going on without it. Hawk wouldn't have said stretch on that one. It seems like he only says it on balls that are easily homers or ball that don't even reach the warning track.
  12. The Cubs this series have had some s***ty defense in LF.
  13. man, Thome has almost no bat speed. He might as well be swinging with a soggy piece of baloney.
  14. Is anyone else sick and tired of hearing announcers and such talking about Quentin as some no-name non-prospect who came out of no where? I know a lot of people here, including myself, are not completely shocked by the awesome-ness of him. And Dye is red hot. That ball kept carrying!
  15. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 28, 2008 -> 02:10 PM) DeWayne D-Weezey fo sheezy Wise. ah... I was changing my shirt at the time and did not hear it clearly... I was way off, but still hilarious.
  16. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jun 28, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) LOL "Nick Son of Steve Swisher" hahahahahahah The best was the one for Wise. I think it was "DeWayne the easy cheesey Wise" And apparently, it's just Alexei the Cuban Misile from now on.
  17. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 28, 2008 -> 03:03 PM) Ozzie seems to make a lot of mound appearances on nationally televised games. I believe Coop has a strained hammy, so Ozzie will probably be making most of the mound visits for the next few weeks.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 28, 2008 -> 02:58 PM) I think he just sucks right now. No confidence in his change-up at all, and he can't locate his pitches. He's not been getting many calls lately either.
  19. I wish these dumbass announcers would shut their mouths for once.
  20. I think there might be more then speculation about Javy tipping is pitches.
  21. better start today then last week for Vazquez...
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 28, 2008 -> 02:38 PM) You tell me why Jimmy Rollins is a better leadoff hitter than Luis Castillo then. And, if you look up and down this thraed, you'll never see where I said OBP isn't important or that it's not the most important stat. It is by and far THE most important stat in the entire game. But to completely ignore slugging percentage is like looking at a guy who can hit 40 homers and inserting him into cleanup spot despite the fact that he'll hit .220 and never walk. All you're looking for is power, right? So "OPS your ass" is complete s*** Are you for real? Jimmy Rollins is a better leadoff hitter because he is about 100x the hitter! And OBP is far from the most important stat in baseball. The most important stat is W. When you look for a leadoff hitter, you don't necessarily look for someone like Granderson who can hit for a ton of power. If you can get a guy with speed to get single after single and draw walk after walk, he can turn those singles and walks into doubles or triples. As for cleanup hitter, I look for someone with good power, can knock in runs, and provide a good average and ops. Why the f*** would I ignore OBP in a cleanup hitter? A leadoff hitter doesn't need great power, they need the ability to get on base.
  23. QUOTE (rpmahr @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 03:30 PM) this isnt an excuse to miss game 4 of sox/cubs he owes it to his wife, as if it wasn't for her, he might still be in that hell-hole known as Cuba.
