QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) That post is seriously laughable. Do a little more research before throwing out supposed factoids. so, are you saying the earth didn't produce oil and instead is just showed up? This planet will always have oil, I guarantee you that. However, as the population of the world goes, so will the demand, and the supply will go down. For now, oil is our best friend. However, we do need to invest more resources into finding an alternative for oil. I know it might sound crazy coming from me, but I want an alternative as much as anyone else. It's just that looking at this thing realistically, that alternative probably won't be around for a long, long, long time. So inbetween now and when we finally find that alternative, man will be an oil-dependent race.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 02:29 PM) Do you know how long it takes for the earth to make oil? If it could make oil fast, there wouldn't even be much to talk about. This is something you should have learned in the 4th grade. Did I say the earth makes oil fast? No, but to say we are going to run out of it is ridiculous. There is oil forming somwhere in our earth right now, and one day that oil can be used. THIS PLANET WILL ALWAYS HAVE OIL!
-
Balta, just wondering, but do you honestly believe that there will be an alternative for oil in your lifetime?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) The biggest threat to humanity is humanity. This may sound cliche but something like 99% of species that have ever existed on this planet have gone extinct and one day humans will be gone too unless we figure out a smarter way to live here. Yes, we can f*** it up for ourselves and it wouldn't be that hard to do it either. And even if someone thinks all of this is bulls***, we are eventually going to run out of oil, so going single-mindedly after drilling domestically as if it's going to fix things by itself doesn't make any sense. Nobody is going to take it seriously either as long as they're getting their fix (i.e. as long as they get cheap oil). now that is simply bulls***. The earth makes oil and it's not going to stop one day because it feels like it. Now, we might use a lot of it up and the supply will be low, but I f***ing guarantee you that there would still be oil in the earth. It is crazy stupid to think that one day there will be no oil. We need to work on finding an alternative to oil, but a true alternative to oil is probably at least 100 years away, and that's if we're lucky. In fact, odds are there is probably no replacement for oil. Oil isn't just used for gas and cars. Oil is used in the production of plastic, cosmetics, computers. Pretty much everything we use today is made from oil.

lol, I love this... It's pretty much man vs. nature, and people are actually rooting for the nature. I mean, I don't want to f*** up the environment, but to say that drilling for oil or going into the rockies and extracting shale oil is going to mess up the planet is silly. You are acting like as oil is some evil element, but when it is indeed a natural product that this planet produces. So, um Balta, why is it okay for other countries to drill for oil, but not us? Also, I have another question for you, do you actually believe in the farce called global warming

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 02:30 PM) I love all this talk of keeping fresh. Modern baseball, got to love it. Why didn't Cal Ripken wilt every season? He played every game. Wow, so you are using 1 player as an example? Now, I never played a 162 game season, but I do know for a fact that it takes a lot out of you and your body takes a beating.
-
I forgot that type B free agents only get their team a supp. pick... and do really think Uribe is in the top 40% of all 2B, 3B, and SS?
-
I might be in the minority here, but after this season I never want to see Uribe in a White Sox uniform ever again.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 06:53 AM) The irony is ALL of the solutions are going to take a long time to implement. Does anyone really think gigantic wind farms are going to get built in a week or two? The governmental process, the zoing, the lawsuits, and everything else involved in all of these solutions make them just as long term as drilling. But that never gets said. I agree completely. For now, oil is our friend. But we need to plan for the future. If we did this 5-10 years ago, we wouldn't be in the problem we are now.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 07:33 AM) Me. His post contained exactly what I would have wanted to read... reaction. Again Obama's camp takes the high road. Lol... is Obama taking the "high road" everytime he brings race into it? It seems like he is saying McCain, or any republican who isn't black, is going to attack Obama for his race, but I haven't seen that. Oh, and how come nobody mentions the Obama attack adds. Apparently McCain is in the pocket of big oil now!

wow, what an inning. Struck out the side by completely over-powering everyone with his fastball.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 11:16 PM) ...tomorrow against the Jays. I'm going to have to watch that... I love mlb.tv (when it's not malfunctioning). A part of me wants him to succeed, but another part of me wants him to fail miserably so I don't feel bad that we gave him up for Swisher.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 10:01 PM) Not to nitpick, but for informational purposes... Marrero was a draft and follow, which is probably why they list him as a free agent signing. We took him in the 23rd round, I believe, after his freshman year in CC, and then signed him after he did well his sophomore year. Well, he is putting up better numbers than his brother Chris is...

Man, Uribe is just bat at the plate...

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 05:35 PM) Agree. That, the tax holiday and the whole gov't check thing are nothing but smokescreen. The best way to fix the energy crisis is simple, throw all the crap against a wall and see what sticks. That means putting more resources into alternative energy and for christ's sake, freaking DRILL! (and please, don't displace any precise caribou while we are drilling). I swear to god, if I hear one more democrat defend not to drill offshore with the excuse "Well, it do anything for another 10 years" garbage, I might jump off a bridge. The point for drilling isn't just to try and lower gas prices now, but lower gas prices for the future, and get rid of our dependence on foreign oil. What if WWIII breaks out and we are in a war with Iran, and other terrorist countries? What do we do for oil then? Use the strategic oil supply? Well, if idiots like Pelosi got their way, if such a war broke out, we wouldn't have any oil left in the supply. My god. Am I the only one who wants to pull my hair out or am I stupid or something?

I have a question... does Barack Obama want to turn America into a socialist country? Cause from my perspective, all signs point to yes. And because, IMO, the odds of him not winning the presidency are slim, I am very terrified for the future of this country.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 09:20 PM) The sad part, the McCain campaign actually issued a press release on the video: McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds emails: "It sounds like Paris Hilton supports John McCain's 'all of the above' approach to America's energy crisis - including both alternatives and drilling. Paris Hilton might not be as big a celebrity as Barack Obama, but she obviously has a better energy plan." Obama Campaign with the right response... one word: Obama spokesman Bill Burton reacts: "Whatever." And my response to that is... who the hell gives a crap besides you?

He's due!
-
hey JPN, what's Jon Link's stuff like?
-
Well, he also played a little SS for Cal Poly, so I think 2B could be a possibility for him. For some reason I see him as a poor man's Mark DeRosa.
-
He had a great start yesterday, lowering his ERA under 3. I don't think he will ever be anything special, but I think he can turn into a solid, back end of the rotation type of guy. Plus, his brother plays QB for the Patriots (and his other brother is a AAAA player for the Astros).
-
Also, it's nice to see Drew O'Neil with a good outing finally. He was talked highly of by a lot of people, IIRC.
-
the thing that caused him to have a poor season in college was walks and lack of command. However, he has kept his walks down for GF, only issuing 8 before tonight (4 tonight).
-
Did anyone else expect anything less than that from Ramirez? He has come up with big hit after big hit all year, and you could just feel that one was coming up. And how much of a dumbass is Farnsworth? Seriously, 3 straight sliders? THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!
-
Nice to see Hudson with another great outing, he is my AAP (which I need to make now that I am off of suspension). I think within the next year or two he will be one of our top prospects. From watching his scouting video when we drafted him, he has a plus fastball which sits in the lower-mid 90's with excellent movement. I don't know much about his other stuff, but from judging by his numbers so far this season, I'd say they have some potential.
