  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 02:07 PM) Curt Hasler is the pitching coach at GF, Chris Cron is the manager. Hasler was a pitcher drafted by the Sox, made his way up through the system in the late 80's with pretty good looking numbers... then pitched just 11 games in '91 at AAA and that was it. Maybe he was injured or something. Well, he's done a hell of a job with the Old Dominion guys. Both Hudson and Carter had control probelms in college, but so far they haven't really had any, and they are putting up better numbers than they ever had in college, and this is vs. tougher competition as well!
  2. We must have worked some magic on Carter because whoever his coach at G-F is, Carter actually has some command. I don't know much about Carter to be honest, but I remember hearing he has very good raw stuff but lacked command and that's why his numbers weren't so hot at Old Dominion. And from looking at his college numbers, that seems to be the case, as he had very good strike out numbers but his walk totals were way too high. He and his college teammate Hudson are owning for G-F!
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 06:57 AM) I watched this story on CNN yesterday and was totally shocked by it. The part that amazed me was that he also threatened to kill someone else important... Who was it? Oh yeah, the guy who is actually the President of the United States... It was a complete afterthought in the story. I'm pretty sure that Obama is already the president for all of the MSM.
  4. Also, awesome game for Upchurch! I am really excited about him!!!
  5. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 01:27 AM) Hogs 26-20 and 6.5 out? Geez. Myrtle Beach is 32-13, that's pretty fake. Of course it's the Braves though. Post Schuerholz the Major League team hasn't been as good, but the scouts are still excellent. Also, someone is going to have to tell me how Wes Whisler is so freaking successful this year. Does this guy have the best intangibles ever, is his stuff severely underrated, or is he extremely lucky? I can't imagine it's a lot of the 3rd option because he has succeeded at a relatively regular basis this season. well, if Richard could succeed at Charlotte (and before him Heath Phillips), I have a feeling that the AAA international league struggles vs. soft tosing lefties who work fast (I am assuming Whistler does this) and throw strikes. I wouldn't be surprised if Whisler has some sort of hitch in his delievery thats throws some hitters off.
  6. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 05:26 PM) Two questions: 1. How tall of a building? 2. Will there be tickets sold? 1. 1 story building. 2. If people want to see a man make a jackass of himself, the event will be available for free.
  7. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 04:13 PM) I didn't say you said that. I'm just tired of hearing it and it was headed in that way again. But actually I really don't like defining what other people need to be in order to be considered "Patriotic." That's actually a pretty thinly veiled propaganda word that reeks of modern-day McCarthyism. Then why'd you say it? Oh well, lets just end it here and get back to talking about rednecks...
  8. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 04:44 PM) Most high-strikeout high-homer numbers guys flame out with time. Typically they are not fundamentally sound, they don't play good defense, and they get hurt from swinging so hard on every single pitch with all of their weight and energy behind it. I wouldn't put money on Ryan Howard or Prince Fielder having long healthy, productive careers because I expect them to flame out eventually, probably sooner rather than later, like Cecil Fielder. They're fun to watch swing, though. Of course there are exceptions, but not many, and fewer in the Hall of Fame. That's just not true, IMO. If someone swung with all of their weight and energy behind it on every single pitch, they'd be lucky to bat .200 (and that's if they're extremely talented). Swinging with full power and strength leaves you with no control. Basically you'd be hoping that the ball hits your bat. Most hitters swing with about 90% of their strength, with power hitters, like Jim Thome, rearing back once in a while and cranking it up to about 95%. Swinging with all of your might though is not smart at all. Reggie Jackson is the exception here though, because everytime he swung the bat, he wanted to hit the ball a mile.
  9. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) You know something, the troops are not infallible, trust me. They shouldn't be some kind of sacred cow, where if you criticize the military for doing something a certain way (or for just flat-out f***ing it up which quite frankly happens more often than I care to admit) or protest war (not physically or verbally assaulting troops, but protesting the war itself) makes you less patriotic. That is bulls***. Where did I say protesting war makes you less patriotic? It's one thing if you're against the war, it's another if you don't treat the sevicemen of this country with respect. Criticizing the military for doing their job or recruiting soldiers is stupid, but criticizing them for murdering innocent women and children for the hell of it (or something along those lines) is justified (even though in situations like that it isn't the militaries fault but rather a squad's fault). But any serviceman of this country who risked their lives for us should be treated with great respect. And to be honest, when I'm talking showing our armed forces respect, I'm mainly talking about the servicemen from the Revolutionary War, 1812, the Civil War, WWI, WWII, etc. Not that our current servicemen aren't heroes and derserve great amounts of respect, but I feel the others are the greatest heroes this country will ever have.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 04:48 PM) I think you are confusing "American" with, perhaps, "Patriotic". I consider being patriotic being one of the qualities that make people American. So if you are not patriotic at all, IMO, how can you be American?
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 03:19 PM) This sentence makes me sad and befuddled for more reasons than I can list, but, I'll try this one... Has it occurred to you that America is great because of its freedoms? I'd imagine it has. So, how is it you call someone who elects not to be or do those things, not American? Or do you feel that the freedoms granted in the Constitution only apply to people just like you? If someone is offended by the line "one nation, under God", then no, you're not American. If you are offended by the Pledge of Allegiance, then you shouldn't be in this Country. (IMO) If you refuse to show your country respect and stand up and place your hand over your heart for the National Anthem, then no, you're not American. (IMO) If you burn the flag, one of the most sacred symbols of our freedom, then no, you're not American. (IMO) If you refuse to show respect to the servicemen and veterans of this country, the people who made this country what it is (this doesn't just include current servicemen and veterans, but also the dead who sacrificed their lives for this wonderful country in past wars), then no, you're not American. (IMO) If you get offended by the ten commandments in a public place, then you're an idiot. (IMO) If you say "Winter Festival" instead of Christmas, then you are not only an idiot but also a douche. (IMO) If you don't respect your elders and raise your children not to do so as well, you are an asshole. (IMO) ____________ Now, GoSox said he doesn't do many of the things on that list. 4 of the 10 things (40% of the list for the math challenged) I feel every American should do and if you don't, I don't consider you an American. The other 3 things are just basic things every decent person should do. The final 3 I guess you can qualify as redneck stuff. I don't know how GoSox feels about the first 4 I posted, but when he said he doesn't do most, I assumed it was a vast majority. However, now thinking about it, it could be that he doesn't do 6 out of the 10...
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 03:20 PM) So, you think that this is a nation that should only protect the religious freedoms of Christians and Jews? Nice spin job there... Did you ever see me say that? But when roughly around 90% of the country is either some form of christianity, jewish, or non religious, seeing the ten commandments somewhere in public isn't something that should be made a big deal about.
  13. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) Yes, truly all Americans should believe in a specific religion and think that material should be plastered all over government buildings. There was only one there that involved religion and it being in a public place, and that was the ten commandments one. And the ten commandments aren't just for Catholics. It is believe by all Christian religions and Judaism.
  14. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 03:59 PM) I agree completely with you here. I don't want him back let alone starting. We all know though how much Ozzie loves him and his defense...it wouldn't shock me at all. Plus it seems he doesn't want Fields..... I can easily see Fields fading away and never amount to much in the big leagues ever again. We have horribly mishandled him from the end of last season.
  15. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 03:03 PM) I don't do most of these. Does that mean I'm not an American? Then no, to me, you're not an American.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 04:10 PM) IMO we would be much better off having not made that trade and leaving Sweeney in CF. I was saying that about 7 months ago, but everyone called me stupid...
  17. QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) We have enjoyed the redneck jokes for years. It's time to take a reflective look at the core beliefs of a culture that values home, family, country and God. If I had to stand before a dozen terrorists who threaten my life, I'd choose a half dozen or so rednecks to back me up. Tire irons, squirrel guns and grit -- that's what rednecks are made of. I hope I am one of those. If you feel the same, pass this on to your redneck friends. Ya'll know who ya' are. You might be a redneck if: It never occurred to you to be offended by the phrase, 'One nation, under God' You might be a redneck if: You've never protested about seeing the 10 Commandments posted in public places. You might be a redneck if: You still say ' Christmas' instead of 'Winter Festival.' You might be a redneck if: You bow your head when someone prays. You might be a redneck if: You stand and place your hand over your heart when they play the National Anthem. You might be a redneck if: You treat our armed forces veterans with great respect, and always have. You might be a redneck if: You've never burned an American flag, nor intend to. You might be a redneck if: You know what you believe and you aren't afraid to say so, no matter who is listening. You might be a redneck if: You respect your elders and raised your kids to do the same. You might be a redneck if: You'd give your last dollar to a friend. Or, you might be an American, not a redneck, if you do all of the above.
  18. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 02:15 PM) I think my question is what are the chances that Uribe is the starting 3B next season? God, I hope not. If we enter another season with him as a starter for us, I might jump off a building.
  19. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) Hence we dearly hope that Joe Crede ain't a type B FA come the off-season (which unfortunately he probably will be). wait, why do we hope Crede isn't a type a B FA?
  20. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 09:12 AM) I could see a deal in the offseason that if Tex signs elsewhere, the Sox send Konerko, Anderson and a spect to the Angels for Sarge Jr and Figgins. I think that the Sox will be outbid for the O-Dawg, who would be a perfect fit. Then KW can pursue someone like Blake, McPherson, Grudz, or whomever. Figgins gives a solid lead-off option and base stealing threat and can play 2B or 3B and OF if needed. GMJ is an above average fielder who would solidify the Sox's defense up the middle. 2B Figgins/Durham/? 1B Swisher LF Quentin RF Dye DH Thome C Pierzynski SS Ramirez 3B Fields/Blake/Figgins CF GMJ Ugh, I hate the idea of having that over-paid steroid freak being a starter for us...
  21. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 07:28 AM) can I leave the lights off? Why do you think man first created paper bags?
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 07:35 AM) The best PETA pictures ever were the Alicia Silverstone ones. And the TV ad she made with them. I don't have a link, but, those were very nice. You might have missed my post, but... QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 08:13 PM) Joanna Krupa's PETA pictures are about a trillion times better: http://www.peta.org.uk/feat/images/krupaMEDIUMuk72.jpg http://www.peta.org.uk/feat/buttons/joannakrupa1-large.jpg http://www.peta.org.uk/feat/buttons/joannakrupa2-large.jpg ________________ Then again, Krupa is simply much hotter. To make things better, Krupa is polish and from our very own Chicago! However, her only knock is that she is associated with PETA.
  23. QUOTE (tommy @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 10:26 PM) No one voted to trade Swisher? Last night must have something to do with it. I voted to trade Swish just to make that post inaccurate! muhahahahaha!
  24. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) He is also a big Bears and Bulls fan. Oh and does anybody remember this, before he announced he was running for president: Yeah, I remember that. A part of me wanted to punch the TV, the other part of me wanted to say "yay! A bear fan!"
